About this property

Impressive Old Stone House, between Bergerac and Sarlat

A delightful and spacious one bedroom house situated on the edge of the traditional village of Coux et Bigaroque. This a perfect holiday getaway for couples looking for a relaxing place to escape to.
The entrance leads you into a good sized, newly refurbished kitchen/diner with original beam over the door. A beautiful, bespoke oak staircase leads to the first floor where you will find the generous double bedroom and shower room. A large lounge is also located on the first floor with views over the pool and gardens.
Cool off in the private swimming pool surrounded by extensive terracing ideal for sunbathing, dining al fresco or watching the sunset with an evening aperitif. For those who prefer a shady option there are numerous trees to relax under or help yourself to the bounty of fruit on offer from the cherry, apple, pear, fig and nut trees.
A two minute stroll will take you to the heart of the village where you can buy your breakfast croissant from the magasin de producteurs, alongside locally produced food. The village boasts two good restauarnts where you can enjoy a three course meal, with wine for a reasonable price You will also find a bar, Post Office and a cave (selling excellent wine). In the summer months, farmers supplying the magasin hold a marché gourmand where their delights can be sampled (both food and wine) accompanied by live music. Sit down at one of the long trestle tables and enjoy the convivial atmosphere with the locals and other holiday makers.

The owner lives on site and will be there to welcome you and to help in any way possible on arrival. Then you will be left to enjoy your holiday, but if you need anything, the owner will be happy to help.

The house is ideally located to take advantage of all the area has to offer. If the outdoors is for you, then you are in the right place. From the bottom of the garden you can pick up walking routes which take you through the rolling countryside. For cyclists, again there are marked trails which can be picked up from the bottom of the garden (ladies and gents bikes available). Within walking distance is the River Dordogne which has a small plage (lifeguard in summer) as well as opportunities for those keen anglers. If messing about on the river is for you, canoes or kayaks can be hired in the next village.

This area is renowned for stunning castles, many of them dotted along the river, many within easy access from the house. If shopping is more your thing, there are a number of lively, colourful markets nearby with stalls laden with tempting local delicacies.

Lovely property in a fantastic location

We had a fantastic 2 week holiday staying at this lovely property. It was very clean and tidy and had pretty much everything we needed - iron and board, hairdryer, pool towels, good kitchen utensils etc. Good wifi too. Unfortunately the weather was not too kind to us for our first week and we did find drying towels to be difficult when there was no sunshine to hang them out in! The pool is located in the garden just across from the house and was lovely. The location of the house is perfect with so many places to visit within an easy 20-30 minute drive. There were also some lovely, (if somewhat hilly and tiring!) walks that can be done via the lane that runs along the back garden. The local boulangerie was sadly closed but we did all our shopping at the large supermarket in nearby St Cyprian where we could get everything we needed. We also ate out here a few times and can recommend two restaurants in particular, La Taverne and 5 Cypriens, the latter doing amazing pizzas!! Shirley and Andy were great hosts, being very friendly and helpful but also gave us our privacy which was appreciated. If you are looking to explore this beautiful part of France, we can definitely recommend staying here!

A real gem

We had a fantastic time at this gorgeous property. Shirley & Andy were brilliant hosts, welcoming & concerned that we had the best holiday, but went to great pains to make sure that they didn’t intrude on our holiday at all. The cottage is really lovely, the pool is beautiful & everywhere, pool & cottage, was spotlessly clean. The cottage has pretty much everything that you need, although as feedback only, a toaster & couple of egg cups would be great. Coux et B is a great base to explore this area, & the hotel restaurant, Le Chambellan, in the village is absolutely gorgeous with lovely staff.

Perfect base for Dordogne adventure!

Clean, light, welcoming property with pretty much everything that we needed for our week in the Dordogne. Shirley snd Andy were excellent (and very discrete) hosts. We were left alone to enjoy our break, but they were on hand to help with queries, whenever we had any. Coux-et-Bigaroque is a great base for exploring the Dordogne east of Bergerac.

A most relaxing holiday

We had a wonderfully relaxing stay. Shirley and Andy were wonderful hosts and extremely helpful during our stay, booking restaurants and generally giving advice on the local amenities. The grounds were beautiful and the private pool was the perfect place to unwind and relax. We had some incredible weather and so the pool was invaluable to us. It was beautifully clean and the water regularly topped up. We enjoyed eating under the pergola, but DO be aware of the tiger mosquitoes as they are prevalent during the hot summer months! The accommodation was lovely, if not rather hot during the night. The fan was in constant use! A beautiful area of the Dordogne and one which we would highly recommend. Wonderful local markets, fabulous food and some excellent vineyards . We will definitely return. Many thanks Shirley and Andy for your marvellous hospitality! Ruth & Steve.

Superb gite in a lovely village with amenities.

We had a wonderful week in this delightful gite. Le Coux has a lovely boulangerie a short walk away and a fabulous restaurant a bit further down the road in the village hotel. The swimming pool in the lovely grounds is beautifully clean and very private. An absolute joy to relax by after trips to the many attractions in the surrounding area, although a parasol would be an added bonus. Shirley was so helpful in booking restaurants and her knowledge of the locality. No air con but a welcome fan in the bedroom. The mosquitoes were a bit of an issue despite the plug in repellent gadget. Bring plenty of repellent and cream! The kitchen could have been slightly better equipped with cutlery (no small knives for cutting vegetables etc,) but not a problem overall. The dordogne is a lovely area to visit and I would highly recommend this gite to anyone wanting to explore this beautiful part of France

Everything we could have asked for!

The property was beautifully clean and so well placed for exploring this area as well as having the advantage of being within walking distance of a boulengerie, farm shop with local produce and hotel for a drink or meal. Shirley was on hand to help if needed and very welcoming. We had a lovely meal at the local restaurant and spent a lot of time relaxing in the private garden. A tranquil and restful place, thank you. We hope to be back.

Ideal Location

A lovely property ideally located in a beautiful part of France. There are so many tourist attractions within a short distance if you want to be out and about, or alternatively just relax by the secluded swimming pool. We needed more than a week to do everything we wanted to. Would certainly return.

Perfect property for a break in France

The property- has plenty of room and is well furnished- the shutters can be closed at night with the windows left open in order to stay cool. The bathroom and kitchen/dining areas are really nice, the living room has comfortable furniture and the bedroom is lovely. Internet access is variable depending on which room you're in, but it's generally good; we found the best place is on the bed where it was good enough to stream a football match. The grounds - are brilliant with lots of space, fruit trees, plants and a massive lawn. The swimming pool is very clean and there's loads of shade under the trees The village is quite small and peaceful but large enough for there to be a really good baker/general store, cafe and a few other shops. The baker is open all day including Sunday- also the nearest supermarket (2.5 km away) is open on Sunday morning. The village also has a beach on the river which is easily walkable and is really beautiful. The wider area - is fabulous with medieval towns like Bergerac and Sarlat an easy drive away The people - most importantly Shirley and Andy are very friendly and easy going. We got a fabulous (alcoholic)welcome and throughout our week they made sure that we had space and privacy whilst being available for us to ask any questions. We were lucky enough to bump into them at the Village's weekly Street food event (tuesday evenings and not to be missed) and learned loads about living in France from them and some of their Neighbours.

Wonderful stay - beautiful cottage, stunning location and incredible hosts

We had a wonderful week-long stay at Shirley and Andy's beautiful annexed cottage in Coux et Bigaroque. The cottage itself was perfect for our needs - spotless, recently renovated and well equipped, and very spacious with a downstairs kitchen and dining area, and a bathroom, large bedroom and large living room upstairs. As much as we enjoyed heading out exploring the area, we equally loved staying at home enjoying the cottage and garden (which is massive, and has wonderful shady fruit trees, and a pool). The cottage is perfectly located for exploring nearby attractions - Jardins de Marqueyssac, Domme, Monpazier, Chateau de Castelnaud etc were all within a short drive, and the village of Coux et Bigaroque itself is quaint - it has no supermarket (which wasn't a problem as there was one at the neighbouring village), but has a lovely restaurant / hotel and a boulangerie (of course!). Shirley and Andy were the perfect hosts - exceptionally welcoming and accommodating, but never intrusive. They gave us great tips about villages to explore and sights to visit, and were always looking for ways to make our stay more comfortable.
