We’ve stayed at this house several times and are always pleased. We went fishing and scalloping and had a great time. Also, the restaurants are close by. Great house.
Excellent property in a beautifully quaint waterfront town
We were there for a friends wedding and the group had rented seven different VRBO houses
The otter shack was everything and more as it was portrayed on the listing. The view of the river is breathtaking, the house, was very clean, nicely equipped and furnished. We would definitely return when we come back to Homosassa.
We had such an enjoyable stay! Everything was clean and comfortable and we really felt at home. We easily docked our boat at the property and it was so convenient to just walk out the door and load up for a day on the Homossassa and Gulf. We loved all the outdoor space and of course the nice view from the top deck. You can’t go wrong staying at the Otter Shack! .
The weather wasn't great so we ended up not bringing our boat, but the dock and creek/canal appeared to be what we were looking for. The house is well appointed and has everything you need. We particularly loved the huge screened in porch. Would definitely rent again.
Overall great house with a great location. We liked that the downstairs and upstairs rooms were only accessible from the outside. It gave some extra privacy. There’s 20 steps to get to the main house. Not a big deal at all if you don’t mind stairs. The outside back porch was great! We really liked the house!
Perfect location. Great for boat access. Very well maintained property.
Property was clean and well maintained. Main house on the second floor with a very large screen room made it pleasant to sit outside at any time of day or night without worry of pesky mosquitos. With an entire studio like apartment down below, there is plenty of room for everyone to spread out and have some privacy if desired. The location is close to a public boat ramp, and just inside the canal from the main river, right around the corner from The Freezer, and a very convenient boat ride to everything else the area has to offer. We really enjoyed our stay.
Very good experience. The only downside was the steps being outside due to one of the girls having limited mobility & she had issues climbing the stairs. No handicap accessibility might be added to your description (bathtub made downstairs inaccessible).
Also we suggest you consider ceiling fans in the bedrooms.
The lounge chairs on the upstairs outside deck were both torn & could not be used. The master bath toilet had a dripping sound so please check.
We will recommend the Otter Shake & plan to return to the area. Thank you
This was our second time staying at the Otter Shack. It is a great place to stay and is conveniently located. The house has everything you need and more. Two thumbs up!
We really enjoyed our stay. The dock was perfect for our boat and was a short run out to the river and springs. Property was clean and had a great porch area that had tons of room to hang out. We will be back.
Very nice home. Great location. LOVED the screened in deck with large TV and table. We spent most of our time on the deck. The house needed some housekeeping. The cabinets were dirty along with the bathroom drawers and refrigerator. Could use a good deep cleaning but other than that is was amazing!!!
Lovely stay. Only problem my dad had was with the latch on the door going to the outside deck. He went out there without his phone and the latch dropped somehow and he got locked out. Luckily some people were working on a boat a few doors down and came to rescue him.
Watching TV or eating the porch was a dream!
The Otter Shack was an awesome place for our vacation. Close to restaurants and local sights. The canal going to the main river worked well and the dock was perfect for the 2, 20’ boats to tie too. We had a great time scalloping and will definitely be back!
We rented the house to go scalloping and check out the area. It was really helpful to have a 2nd kitchen downstairs to load coolers etc for the boats. The rooms are spacious and the 2nd-floor screened-in balcony was a great large space for our group to relax after a long day on the boat. David is really helpful and responsive.
David, property manager, was outstanding before and during our stay. Highly responsive and provided excellent answers to our questions. Location provided convenient access to bars/ restaurants and was a short boat ride to Gulf and springs. First timers need to be careful navigating creek and docking. Visit to Homosassa always fun durings scallop season!
This is a super nice place to stay! It’s right on the water and my kids saw a manatee on the very first day. Homosassa is a small quiet town with lots to do.
We go exactly what the add for this property stated. An awesome view of the river with manatees, dolphins, stingrays, water fowl, fish and crabs. Great local eateries. Great location to state parks. We will definitely return to this property.
