The treehouse was perfect for our family getaway. While we wish we had a little more time to enjoy the setting (weather wasn’t playing nice), the time we had was great. Family card games on the beautiful deck….saw the resident deer and fox. Cabin had everything we needed. Hosts were super friendly and helpful! 10/10 recommend.
We loved our stay at the Jaybird Treehouse! It was well maintained, clean, and super cute. The shower was amazing, the beds were super comfortable, and our teenager and their friend loved the trap door and "bunker" under the rest of the treehouse. The ice cream maker was such a nice touch! A couple things that I feel I should note... 1) the walk down to the lake is fairly steep, and is a boardwalk rather than stairs. For us it was ok, but if we had my elderly mother with us, she would not have been able to make that trip. 2) The air conditioners in the bedrooms worked well, if not a little too loud, but the air conditioner in the main living area didn't cool the space off quite enough. On a humid, 90 degree day, this makes a big difference. Overall, we loved our time there and would recommend the treehouse to others!
The treehouse is small but efficient. The beds are very comfortable, and the host responded to us immediately when we couldn't figure out the door combination and needed table salt!
We really enjoyed this cabin and our relaxing get away after the holiday season. We will definitely be back for the summer to really enjoy what this area has to offer during the tourist season.
Thanks!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Jay Birds Treehouse! The accommodations were so cute and we loved all the nature and wildlife. Beautiful! Kris and Matt were so accommodating! A+++
My family and I are trying to see all 50 states. This was a perfect way for us to mark off the state of Illinois. The treehouse was beautiful. There isn't very much hustle but if you enjoy outdoor adventures this is a great place to find it! After a day of hiking at Garden of the Gods and Ferne clyffe, biking at tunnel hill the lake was the perfect way to cool off and relax! The owners of the treehouse were very friendly and provided more than welcome could have ever asked for! Definitely will recommend this place to our friends and family and who knows after our trip around the map we may even return!
Beautiful, cozy place with lots of extras! We used the canoe, paddle boat and Lilly pad on the lake. Had a fire at night. Our kids enjoyed the trap door to their beds.
This was a great way to close out 2020. This magical treehouse had everything we needed and all the wonderful details just made it a dream come true! We will be back!
This elevated cabin in the trees is beautifully constructed and decorated with every attention to detail given. From the skylight views of the trees, squirrels and stars; to the firepit, charcoal grill and ice cream maker; relaxed fun is all around you. Plenty to do in cabin with games, puzzles, wifi, and outdoor seating or cozy indoor lounging. The lake is a short path walk and there are numerous trails and wineries within short drives. The hospitality, amenities, and location are great! Alone, coupled, as a family, or with friends--this is your place to design your outdoor fun and indoor restoration. Book your stay soon!! Elevate your elation of life!
This place was great! Our kids really enjoyed themselves in the bunk room and making homemade ice cream! It was the perfect retreat after a long day of hiking.
We had a wonderful time at the treehouse. The decor is perfect and created a restful and welcoming vibe. We enjoyed canoeing on the lake, with great bird watching. The stargazing deck was perfect when we had a clear night, and also great for watching the lake go by. Lots of hiking in the area: Ferne Clyffe, Heron Pond and Tunnel Hill all nearby. Loved it!
We had a wonderful stay at The Jaybird Treehouse. The property is clean and modern with warm and friendly decor. We loved our stay! We grilled yummy steaks and brats, made ice cream in the Cusinart Ice Cream Maker and warmed up by the firepit at night. The lake was a short walk away and we loved the paddle boat and canoe. We even tried catching a fish or two. I would recommend this place to all!

About the host
Hosted by Kris Shellabarger
We are originally from the St. Louis area and Ohio. We bought our lake house at Lake of Egypt and eventually moved there. We loved it so much we started building vacation rentals. We enjoy our guests so much and love the area!
Why they chose this property
We wanted to buy in Colorado because of the night sky. The Lake of Egypt sky was just the same but much closer to home. On many nights, we can see the milky way. There is not a lot of light pollution and to watch the sky and a bonfire is so much better than anything we could watch on TV!
What makes this property unique
The night sky is amazing and you can build a bonfire anytime you want. The treehouse has a bucket pulley 20 feet in the air and also has a trap door bedroom. It is a special place for couples and for families. The deer are all over as are many beautiful birds.
