We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cobblehurst. The location was perfect for excursions all around the area. The house is gorgeous with jaw-dropping scenery all around. Our host, Steve, was friendly, responsive, and very accommodating. The home was spotless and the beds were extremely comfortable. The beautiful historic home is elegantly furnished with art objects and antiques. There were tons of little extras to make it as convenient as a real home: lots of storage space, a well-appointed kitchen, plenty of towels and household supplies. The appliances were very clean and good quality. There’s even a second washer/dryer in the downstairs suite. There are two lovely outdoor spaces including both front and back porch, so we enjoyed shade and great scenery any time of day. Our group was two adults, two older teens, and two grandparents, and we had ample room for a week’s stay. We loved the property and would absolutely want to stay there again.
I’ll fill you in on a few details — not complaints at all, just items that might make it helpful when choosing a property for your own needs.
We had originally intended to give the grandparents the basement suite because of the private bathroom, but the stairs to the basement require a little courage. We opted to keep our seniors on the main floor. The basement is spacious, cool in summer and has a large en-suite bathroom. The main floor has two queen bedrooms and a smaller bathroom, all close to the kitchen. The dining table is huge so we socialized there a good bit. The loft room has two comfy queen beds but no bathroom on that floor and no door, and the ceiling is sloped under the roof.
This house was a great fit for our family, but young children would need to be very closely supervised around the stairs and the elegant decor.
Also — this was not a problem for us but you should know — the convenient location has the trade-off of some road noise. We couldn’t see the interstate traffic from the house, but we could definitely hear it. There was also some non-resident traffic in the neighborhood because of the nearby rest area and the bike trail that goes past the house. It didn’t bother us, and we loved the quick in-and-out access from the house. But if you require a silent, secluded mountain retreat, you should look at the map and be aware.
In all, Cobblehurst and our gracious host Steve were both really excellent. We made some great memories. Thank you!
