Uneven experience
Went for an off season holiday weekend getaway. Fairly uneven experience overall. Be aware that this is an older property. I stayed in one of these townhouses growing up in the late 70's. Many of the townhouses across the street have been knocked down and rebuilt, but these seem to be the originals. It's a nice location and mostly well taken care of. The bathrooms and kitchen are a bit dated.
Positives: close to beach, view of the ocean from the master bedroom, new bed, well stocked with games for indoor entertainment. Negatives: check in, cleanliness, owner communication
Check in- The owner has the WRONG address in the VRBO listing! They listed the first townhouse row and theirs is in the 2nd. In peak summer when all the units are booked up and arriving during the day, this may be easier to figure out. We arrived at night, lighting is poor, and the town house rows are clearly labeled. Didn't see the unit number in address they listed and were pretty confused. The middle town house row puts the unit numbers in a lower, less visible location than the first. We called the owner. To his credit he answered, but he wasn't terribly helpful and even told us that he didn't know the exact address. How do you not have the correct address for your listing?
Cleanliness: Cleaning people must have checked out after labor day. Found food all over the floor around the top and under one of the twin beds. Refrigerator had sand in it. Freezer had left over food in it. Dishes still in dishwasher. When we emptied it, it was obvious prior people just threw the dishes in without scraping food off. Many still had caked on food that would only come off by hand scrubbing. Just what I wanted to do on my vacation, someone else's dishes! The description of the unit isn't clear on what to bring. There were no paper towels, no real handsoap in any of the bathrooms, and no laundry detergent.
Communication: I reported the incorrect address and cleanliness issues in a timely fashion. It took over 24 hrs for him to respond. He never really acknowledged the wrong address in the listing. He did apologize for the cleanliness and gave us a $25 credit and a late check out. Both my wife and I sent him several follow ups on how we left the property clean, told him that we could not use the late checkout and requested the full cleaning service fee to be reimbursed instead. As of the writing of this review it has been a week and we have received no response or follow up at all.
