About this property

Log Cabin / Mountain Pines, 5400 Square Feet Retreat-Prescott Spruce Mountain

Pine Trees, acreage, National Forest and comfort. This is a large log and brick home in the Prescott National Forest. Invite your friends!! This is a big place. The cabin is located less than 8 miles from downtown Prescott, AZ. The 5400+ sq feet of living area lends itself well to large groups and multiple families. The cabin is located in the Prescott National Forest and there is 2.5 miles of uphill dirt road to access the cabin. You WILL NEED FOUR wheel drive and possibly chains during the winter months in case of snow and ice. This cabin is cozy, unique and its setting is beautiful. There are 2 master suites with ensuite baths and 2 additional bedrooms. The bunkroom sleeps 6 on bunk beds with lower futon mattresses that are great for kids or a family who has multiple young children that want to sleep in the same room. There is also an additional bedroom with a queen bed. The large living areas include large couches and lots of floor space for additional sleeping. The property is on 4 secluded acres. This is a fantastic place to be enjoyed for family getaways, reunions or corporate functions. This cabin is in the forest and is not ideal for those looking for a 5 star resort, paved roads or concierge service. If it's a cabin experience your looking for we are confident you will enjoy your stay and return often.

The game room is complete with a bounce back bar room shuffle board game, pool table and poker table. The outside includes a large fire pit and lots of wilderness for your adventures. There is nowhere better for mountain biking, hiking, trail riding or watching deer and wild turkey.

Downtown Prescott shopping, eating and whiskey row is all less than 10 miles away.

There are hiking, horseback, ATV and bike trails throughout the mountain. They take you thru beautiful terrain that goes on for miles and miles. You will also enjoy hiking or riding to the lookout tower at the elevation of 7500 feet.

Quad and ATV riding trails and roads lead all over Prescott, we often take trips to lynx lake for breakfast or ride to crown king for lunch and fun.

Goldwater lake is about 4 miles from our cabin and has fishing, Volleyball courts and a picnic area. Watson and Lynx lakes are also in the area.

Great Rustic Family Getaway

We went up to Prescott with our family (my husband, 3 adult children with their spouses and 5 grandchildren ages 3-7) It is very rustic and definitely a cabin experience in the woods. It was exactly what we were looking for. Nothing too fancy as not to worry about kids running around the house and outside. Our grandchildren had the best time in the woods exploring around the house. We played board games, watched movies and cooked lots of food during our stay. It was spacious, private and peaceful. The road heading up was a bumpy uphill dirt road, so take it easy. If you don’t have 4 wheel drive. We would stay at this cabin again if we were going with the family.

Quality Time At Its Finest!

We recently stayed at the Bigelow's cabin for a much needed family getaway. This place is gorgeous! I was so surprised at how fully stocked the house was. Prior to going, i packed up so much more than we needed for fear of showing up and not being prepared...boy was I wrong! Upon arrival, we were so impressed, and our kids were through the roof with excitement. Its just beautiful. Its perfect for pets, and if family bonding is what you need, this is the place! Whether hanging out in the game room, watching movies/playing poker in the loft, or sitting around the fire outside, you cannot go wrong by renting this house. We have teenage sons who have been on their share of family vacations, yet they felt that this trip was "better than Disneyland". I strongly believe that the "warmth" of this house, and everything about it, played a strong role in how successful our trip was. We strongly recommend the Bigelow home. We cant wait to go back!

Dirty, dirty, dirty and in need of maintenance, and difficult to get to.

Despite the fact that we paid for a full week, we left three days early. As another reviewer the cabin is in need of a very thorough cleaning, and also maintenance. First the positive. The cabin has a nice outward appearance, is secluded, and surrounded by towering pine trees. It is very beautiful outside the cabin. First, getting to the cabin is difficult and very time-consuming. There are windy dirt roads that have many deep gullies on them. You must slow to about 5 mph, and it literally takes about 30 min to get to town. Once inside, we encountered a dirty cabin. There were cobwebs and corners of the kitchen., multiple dead bugs in the overhead lights in the kitchen, food wrappers and other debris in the cushions in the couch, a couple weeks worth of ash in the. The worst item was the dining table cloth, which had a brown/gray dirt pattern all the way around entire dining room table. It looked as though it had never been washed. Most disgusting, is that it was right at the height of the faces and mouths of our three and four-year-old kids that were at the cabin, were putting their hands and faces on the dirt soiled edge of the tablecloth. We wanted to wash it, however, the owners put a sign over the washer and dryer expressly prohibiting renters from using them. There is only one bathroom on the main floor, and it has a toilet that seem like is only about 10 inches high. Because it was so low, some of the senior people in our party had a lot of difficulty getting up after using the toilet, so they had to walk up the stairs to use the other bathroom. When I informed the owner (by e-mail) that we had vacated early because it was dirty, he immediately called me. I did not ask for a refund at all, but the owner was apologetic and indicated he would refund three days of the rent. To this day, (two months later), the owner has not refunded that money, nor has he responded to an e-mail. Honestly, I do not really care about the three days rent, I only mention it to inform potential renters that the owner did not follow through on a commitment he made. there are several other reviewers who have given five star reviews. In fact, I relied upon them in selecting his cabin among the many options available. But i can only share our experience. I can tell you that I caught a lot of flak from the adults in my immediate and extended family for the selection of this cabin. While other people may have enjoyed this cabin, I would not return even if it were free.

Great place

First time renting a cabin and we were truly lucky it was John’s place! Beautiful home and the scenery is breathtaking. We had to leave a little earlier than scheduled but hopefully we get to go back soon. The owner was very helpful, we appreciate the communication and him checking in with us before the trip. Great place for a big family with little ones, lots of things to do.

Great presentation of the property, that didn’t pan out.

Access code did not function; had to crawl through a small window into a sink for access. Cleanliness was severely disappointing; two of the beds were not sheeted or made. Misrepresentation of photos… sad. Safety and security of the property was very concerning, both for personal safety liability, with many dangerous conditions and well as close proximity of mature foliage excessively adjacent to the property structure. I took many photos of the actual condition of the property, and facility, that I would be more than willing to share.

Cabin in the woods...

Yes, this is a large cabin in the woods, on a long and windy dirt road. The cabin served its purpose for our family, however there are many repairs and updates that need to be made. Some things not working properly, some things broken and tattered. We felt the cabin could use a deep cleaning as well. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

To Each Their Own

The cabin itself is wonderful. However, It looks like it was lived in and "left". Cleanliness was okay. Take firewood (& Duraflame logs). Big kitchen for cooking/baking; some items available but bring what you think you may need. Furniture is cabin like; worn and nothing new here. Some chairs not able to be sat on. Spa tub not able to be used due to no plug. Air hockey table did not work, pool table lacks chalk and pool rack. Some nightlights would be a great idea to bring. The experience of the area was truly enjoyed just think the description of interior could have been better to be amply prepared.

Great location!

Very private house on a beautiful property. 20 minutes? to get back to town if you forgot something. Great firepit area. Saw deer and havalina's. Road was ok, little bumpy, one friend came in a Camaro. Might be a little tricky if snowfall. House is very big with lot's of room for everyone. 3 bedrooms plus another room with 2 bunk beds. Lot's of extra room for air mattress's if needed. Also couches for more sleeping. Definitely a older property and very "rustic", but still nice. Nice decks to sit on and watch the woods.

Not what we expected

My family went to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Having been to Prescott many times, we really just wanted to hang out together at the cabin, hike, play games, sit on the deck for coffee in the morning and a cocktail at night. The description of the house appealed to me because of the room and the game room. I figured there be plenty to keep us entertained! First, I recommend AWD at a minimum to get to this cabin. We arrived and the place was full of cob webs and layers of dust. We were told it was cleaned the day before.. if so. I'd ask for a refund and fire the cleaning crew. The toilets even had a ring in them. Several kitchen chairs were broken, all the chairs at the poker table were missing their backs, none of the games in the game room worked, and the deck furniture didn't have the cushions. Needless to say, this was NOT what we expected and was a very disappointing vacation!

Beautiful Place

We had a much needed family get together, after a year of missing holidays due to the pandemic. The cabin is in a beautiful.location with a lot to do nearby. There was plenty of space and it was very comfortable. A few things were quirky about the build.of the place, and some minor things were broken. The host was very responsive and friendly.

Disappointing Stay

We like the area the cabin was built on.. We liked the spacious of the rooms. However the cabin was very dirty. Dead flies in the windows rodent droppings in bedrooms. Upstairs toilet had urine on it and no soap in this time of covid. The big issue was the fireplaces.could not use fireplaces due to terrible fumes in the master bedroom. We left property one day early because of the fireplace issues. Lost out on $. Emailed owner got no response. I do not recommend property

Perfect weekend retreat

This place was perfect for our family vacation! There’s so many great things about this place, I don’t even know where to start.. but I’ll give it a try. There was plenty of space to spread out and not feel crowded. The game room and wet bar were awesome features that entertain both children and us “adults”. The weather was very cold in the night and morning but you would have no idea if you didn’t step outside. But with all the decks, patios and balconies around this place, I don’t know why you would not go outside! The fire pit in front was awesome and the kids enjoyed make S’mores and playing outdoors by the fire. There are many more features that made this place great, but I’ll simply say, I highly recommend this place if you have a large group with or without children. You will not be disappointed.

Group Celebration

The house is big with lots of space to spread out. We had four families with 6 kids and it was hard to find the kids sometimes. Outside was great for hiking and the firepit area was great for big fires and smores and we hung out there during the day too for painting rocks and other crafty outdoor activities. The kitchen and dinning were perfect for a large group and we were able to cook all our meals and eat like royalty. The house is pretty old and has many additions so the layout it a bit confusing at first. The toilets needed some managing probably because of the septic system. Huge tub upstairs was fun for the kids. Never used the fire places inside. Patios were great to enjoy coffee and views of trees and wildlife. Overall the experience was fantastic and we all enjoyed celebrating my wife's 40th birthday. Thanks a lot John.

Disappointed

This place really needs some major TLC. Although we made the best of it, the house needs a lot of repairs done, the oven did not work and the wifi was not working so we had no service the entire time we were there. Be prepared for the presence of mice outside and inside the home. Again we made the best of it, the scenery was gorgeous. And in order for us to contact John we actually hiked a mile up to be able to get any type of reception.

escape from covid 19

The property is just what we wanted. Secluded and beautiful. It is a large home nestled in the middle of the forest that can accommodate many. Ample space for everyone. We originally booked the place in June, but had to change the dates, as a few people tested positive for covid. John moved the date no questions asked, We appreciated that. Cons - This place really needs some TLC. I love rustic, but there is no reason why rustic should be dirty. It really needs a major cleaning, and small repairs around the place. Also, it is stated that there is wifi. Technically there is, but If you are planning on doing any kind of work, this will not work for you. We had a few people that had to leave early because of this. I know, I know, most people want to be in the mountains to escape work, but sometimes it just can't be helped. Just thought you should know, because that was one of the reasons we booked this place, is because it stated it had wifi. Finally, the air conditioner did not work. We had to go out and buy several fans. To be fair, we did not call John on this. We just all agreed that we did not want a technician working on an air conditioner while we were there. All this being said, we enjoyed ourselves. This could be an amazing home if it got some TLC.

We love our cabin and enjoy the time with friends and family. My wife and 4 daughters spend as much time at the cabin as our schedules allow. The girls have grown and become very busy with work and school. We started renting this cabin in 2008 for others to enjoy. We can now justify having an incredible cabin as a 2nd home. Thanks to all that have become regular renters.

Why they chose this property

This location is only minutes from Prescott but at an elevation above 7000 feet. We can enjoy the festivals, shopping, rodeos and everything else Prescott has to offer while being in a cool pinetree setting that is off the beaten path. The property is 4 acres but there are very few neighbours and the home is very private.
