About this property

Mohonk, Minnewaska, high ceilings, big widows, private - 5 acres

All the best of country living with modern amenities—beautiful views with peace and quiet. Enjoy 2500 sq feet of light, wide-open space, including a loft and elevated wrap around porch. Many compare our home to an art gallery and/or a tree house, since the main living space is on the second level. (There are stairs, about 16 steps to the second floor) along with a third floor loft (another set of stairs about 14 steps). Included in the rental is the residence on the second and third floors. In the warmer months, take a hike on the new mowed paths that encircle and criss-cross our 5 acres!

Not included is the ground floor comprised of garages, storage areas, and our caretaker apartment in the rear. 2 friendly, adolescent Shepherd sisters reside on the property. (You don't have to interact with them at all or you are welcome to meet them)

The home is not childproofed -- not recommended for young (2 - 4 yrs. old), independently mobile children.

Rent it for 2-days, a week, or a month. Escape to fresh air and freedom. There are tons of fun activities nearby in the Hudson Valley including shopping, site-seeing, wineries & breweries, hiking, biking, running (there’s a rail trail nearby and also check out the R to R or River to Ridge Trail), swimming, kayaking, canoeing, climbing, horseback riding, cross-country skiing and snow shoeing.

We are conveniently located to the Minnewaska State Park and Mohonk Preserve (as well as the Mohonk Mountain House). In the winter you can see Skytop Tower at Mohonk from the large front Living Room windows. There is also lots of nature, waterfalls, and soul-quenching goodness. Watch the humming birds feed from the kitchen windows, and view all sorts of wildlife — wild turkeys, deer (and fawns in the Spring/Summer), lots of birds and the occasional fox, owl, or bald eagle!

You are in for a treat with the surrounding towns famous for their delicious restaurants (many are farm to table), not to mention the Culinary Institute in nearby Hyde Park. We are near lots of wineries and breweries too! We are also home to the State University of New York at New Paltz, with all of the buzz of a college hub. Also a close drive to the town of Woodstock and Bethel Woods for concerts and performances. Experience all that the Hudson Valley has to offer! Just ask for recommendations. Or check our guidebook (available when you check-in). There is often live music in the warmer seasons, ice cream, apple/fruit picking, farm stands with fresh produce, honey, apple cider doughnuts and other local home made baked goods.

Come spend your Honeymoon, Babymoon, a romantic weekend, or a well-earned vacation/break.

Great Getaway!

Steve was gracious and helpful as we arrived, and the space was just amazing! It was clean and warm in our wintry visit, and it was a marvel to wake up to the surrounding beauty. I would heartily recommend this listing.

Retreat

Property is beautiful and quiet, but a short drive (or bike ride on rail trail) from downtown New Paltz, Mohonk Preserve trails and the Mountain Brauhaus. Felt great to be in a different setting surrounded by nature after months in same house. Deck is a good place to sit with morning coffee and watch the birds and deer. We were a family of 4 incl. 2 young adult kids.

Perfect for a retreat/group hangout

Delightful all around. The house is big, open, airy—perfect for a group gathering (we brought instruments and played music all weekend.) It is an interesting and modern space decorated with GORGEOUS works of art. The owner, Denise, is as nice, accommodating and organized as can be. The detailed instructions and tips for the house and for New Paltz left nothing to chance. A great retreat, full of serenity. Thank you, Denise.

An inspiring space

Our enthusiasm for this rental is limited only by having to write this on my mobile phone. Every part of our adult, family visit was wonderful. Denise and Steve were welcoming and attentive hosts with whom we could have spent the entire weekend in conversation. The house, as the pictures show, is truly amazing both in its quiet setting as well as spacious architecture and wall-to-wall art. It was so comfortable that it could have been easy to forget the nearby hiking trails and parks for which we had planned the trip. The only thing we all agreed we would have changed is that we should have planned for staying much, much longer. We all would love to return here again.

Beautiful Art House for a Fun Stay

My friends and I spent the weekend at this beautiful art filled house to get away from work, kids, spouses, and finally have a weekend away. This was the perfect setting. Denise is great, very friendly, and was happy to answer all of our questions -- even help identify amphibian sounds. She and her husband are great hosts. ... and have super cute dogs. We were glad to see the clear instructions and recommendations -- always a plus during any stay so that everything is easy to find and clearly communicated. They thought about everything(!) even first aid kits. Also: for anyone with allergies, though I can't confirm, given that none of us had any issues I think they use Free & Clear (or a similar low-allergen detergent) to wash the linens. The only weirdness was having to download an app to have more control over the lights was uncomfortable -- I don't need another app on my phone, and I'd rather just turn them on and off without a preprogrammed time. Denise deprogrammed it and we were able o keep the lights on as long as we wanted. It had one of the best appointed kitchens I've seen (check out the kitchen map when you check in, and pull the drawers all the way out, they are amazingly deep). The giant windows were fantastic for watching a summer storm pass through, and let in a lot of light. Note that unless you are an early riser, you may want to consider bringing a sleep mask -- this is especially true of you are sleeping in the loft space. The large windows are gorgeous, so any morning sun is worth it. One other note: while the water is definitely safe to drink from the tap, it's treated and has some flavor, if you are sensitive to that, just get some store bought. We spent time hiking and visiting the gallery on the New Paltz campus. We bought meat from the dairy farm up the road and fruits and veggies from the near by farm stands -- we highly recommend doing that if you are cooking in. Beautiful hummingbirds, fireflies, and views make this a very charming retreat. The art by local artists in the house was gallery-level great. One suggestion: small notes about who the artists are would be great. We 100% recommend this stay.

Hudson Valley Getaway

We found the house to be very clean, and exactly as advertised. The kitchen was very well equipped., and Denise’s notes gave helpful tips regarding where we could locate kitchen items. The dinner recommendations were spot on. We enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the hummingbirds come to the feeder. Thanks for a nice stay.

Spacious, well-appointed home on large secluded country setting

Denise and Steve could not have been nicer hosts. They were very friendly and helpful with suggestions about the area. Denise alerted me to the Nyquist-Harcourt Wildlife Sanctuary which I was unaware of in spite of being familiar with the New Paltz area. One evening Steve brought out the largest private telescope I had ever seen and we were able to see incredible details of the moon's surface. There is a wrap around deck that permitted us to see 12-16 bird species a day just sitting there. The kitchen was huge and had everyone we needed. The house was actually better looking than the pictures. Very private and secluded and only about 3.5 miles from the New Paltz business district. My wife and I would definately stay there again and we both reccommend it as a great place to get away as well as a convenient location to take advantage of all the area has to offer.

Responsive Owner and Nice Outdoor Amenities

Denise responds very quickly to our questions. The house is spacious and modern, and we liked the large outdoor porch area and the neighborhood association's walk through the woods down to the river.

Visit to Hudson Valley

Spacious, comfortable, quiet, and well-appointed accommodations. Denise was very friendly, helpful, and responsive to questions. The porch is super. The kitchen is generously supplied with dishes and cookware. The location is convenient for access to many activities. A couple highlights for us were the Walkway over the Hudson and Lake Minnewaska. Would definitely like to stay here again.

Great location near New Paultz and Hiking at Shawangunk. House is large, modern design, comfortable and adorned with art from students at nearby University. Hosts made the stay easy and were available for any issues (there were none).

Relaxing Easter weekend in the shadows of the 'Gunks

Had a very nice and relaxing time at property. Check in was easy and we were well cared for during our stay. This is very much like visiting and staying with family at their house - but without seeing them! It's a real home and has a lived in feel. The property is within a short walk to the Wallkill river and as 5 minute drive to New Paltz. Deer and woodpeckers frequent the neighborhood. Check out Old Ford Farm just a couple blocks away for amazing produce.

Beautiful Stay

My family and I stayed at this New Paltz home for two nights to get out of the city and celebrate my birthday. The home looks exactly as pictured in the photos, so you know what to expect. It was also very clean. Denise (one of the owners) was finishing up the cleaning as we arrived (right on time.) Our favorite parts of the home were the massive amounts of natural light, the wrap around porch fitted with rocking chairs, an outdoor table and a hummingbird feeder (where you will in fact see hummingbirds come and visit) and the expansive land around the home which allowed for a lot of quiet and time with nature (you will likely see lots of deer on the roads and property.) My parents were a little confused when they arrived because they weren't sure why there were so many cars in the driveway. A small note that the owners (Denise and Stephen) have two cars and seem to have somewhere underneath the main house where they stay. This is just something for you to note in case you prefer to be completely alone when you rent homes, but I will say that we never heard them, barely saw them (except for one day where Stephen seemed to be working out of the garage) and they had no complaints about our stay or how we moved in the home. They were both very pleasant and clearly have a love for the arts as can be seen in their home. (Fun Fact: Most of their art was acquired at the local college.) Another pro of this rental is how close it is to SUNY New Paltz (in case you are visiting students,) Main Street and local grocery stories (about a 12 minute drive to Tops.) We were twenty minutes away from Minnewaska State Park where we enjoyed a beautiful hike with waterfalls and a swimming lake and you can literally see Mohonk Mountain House as you drive towards the house on the main road. If you don't drink tap water, you may want to bring some gallons with you or buy them at the local supermarket as the ice cube maker and water dispenser on the refrigerator were not working. Other than that, everything in the house is neatly labeled and explained. There's even a house guide book that gives you recommendations on local places to eat and things to do. We genuinely enjoyed our stay and had a lovely trip.

PEACEFUL

Such an electric house, the owners were absolutely amazing at communicating with us. They’re very friendly, down to earth, even showed us their telescope and showed us the moon, stars, Jupiter, and Saturn. House is just as it is in the photos, was not disappointed at all. Would definitely come back!

We are a fun-loving, laid back, couple who enjoy meeting and hosting new people. Fun fact, we got married right on the front stairs of this house! It is very special to us! Steve is an artist, inventor, master carpenter, star gazer and flies and owns radio controlled planes and a cool drone! Denise is a portrait/wedding and event photographer, loves animals and people, and is always doing "something." We love great food, sharing stories, and terrific movies. There's so much more to talk about, and we'd love to share it with you or just give you all of the privacy you need/want.

Why they chose this property

Uh, we think it speaks for itself - LOL! High ceilings, tons of windows, great views, lovely property with lots of land, what's not to love? It's perfect for us and we think it will be for you too!

Very near to Mohonk and Lake Minnewaska parks with Shawangunk Ridge (climbing, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, swimming, cross country skiing). Close to the town of New Paltz with fun shops and great restaurants. Also near the Culinary Institute, horseback riding, cross country skiing, Lots of hiking, running, biking paths (mountain bikes or hybrids are the best). Check out the River to Ridge (R to R) trial or the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail! This is vacation land! We are near lots of wineries and breweries too! There is seasonal apple, pumpkin, berry picking at nearby farms and markets. Delicious homemade pies (try Tantillos Farm Market). Plus you can see lots of wildlife from our extensive deck. Deer (with fawns in the Spring/Summer), turkey (top siting is 36 in our yard at one time), hawks, owls, humming birds (we have a feeder just outside the kitchen window) and many, many other birds. If you are lucky you will see the occasional fox or bald eagle. There are some fun bars and pubs with music too. Almost every restaurant/eatery offers and outdoor seating option. Also see our guest book and ask us for suggestions. We have printed suggestions when you get here as well! You will have a blast!

What makes this property unique

Elevated living (kind of like a tree house) with tons of gorgeous views, lots of light and windows, a huge, wrap around (yoga or relaxing) deck with a propane grill and outdoor table and chairs, a cool loft with 360 degree views, fun artwork and decor, a beautiful, huge kitchen and large dining room table. Plus it's close to tons of fun activities.
