A cozy 139-square-foot tiny home with a queen-sized bed, easy access to water, split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities. These amenities include an eco-friendly cassette toilet with a removable waste holding tank, hand basin, and shower (gas-heated for hot showers)

If you plan to spend your holiday homes NZ retreat in Central Otago, We advise that you bring your basic necessities such as food and water during your stay with us. Thank you

In addition, please advise that there will be some animal and agricultural noise during your stay with us as we are a working farm that cares for crops and animals.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please note that there will be a second tiny house called " Matakanui Retreat 1" that sit on the same property. If you want to book in groups, please contact your land host 24 hrs in advance to make arrangements.

Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the tiny home and its surroundings.

- Complimentary fresh farm eggs are available for breakfast.
- E-Bikes and bike racks are available for rent with prior arrangement with the host. Rental fees are $50 for a half day and $100 for a full day.

Matakanui Retreat 2 by Tiny Away, located in the settlement of Omakau, offers a cozy countryside stay just 35 minutes from Alexandra. This tiny home sits by the rugged charm of Central Otago. Central Otago is sunny, dry, and brown, with weathered ancient mountains, alpine herb fields, and fast-flowing rivers. Visitors often hire motorhomes or mountain bikes to explore remote sites, taste seasonal flavors, and enjoy incredible scenery.

Our local recommendations:

- St Bathans is a historic gold mining town in the Central Otago region with a lake where you can go swimming.
- Naseby is an old mining town in the middle of the Naseby forest, often referred to as the jewel of the Maniototo with an indoor curling rink, and walking and mountain bike terrains.
-Clyde is a historic town by the foot of a river gorge, lined with 1800s gold rush buildings. Enjoy the charm of its restaurants, cafes, specialty shops, and art galleries. Discover scenic walks and bike rides along the Dunstan Trail.
-Roaring Meg features a lookout over a power station waterfall that drops into the Kawarau River, a few minutes’ drive away from Lake Dunstan. The watercolor is wonderful, and the view of the Kawarau River is breathtaking.
-Cyclists and walkers on the Lake Dunstan Cycle Trail will explore man-made landscapes, rich Maori and pioneer history, and Bannockburn vineyards. It links with the Otago Central Rail and Roxburgh Gorge Trails.

Getting Around:
By car:

- From Queenstown to Omakau: 111 km, approximately 1 hour 24 minutes.
- From Wanaka to Omakau: 103 km, approximately 1 hour 13 minutes.
- From Clyde to Omakau: 27 km, approximately 20 minutes.
- From Alexandra to Omakau: 26 km, approximately 21 minutes.
- Accessible by both 2WD and 4WD vehicles.

By public transport:

- Being in a valley on a farm, there are no bus, train, or taxi services available.

Other Things to Note:
- Pets not allowed
- Wifi is not available
- Gas BBQ Grill is available
- No unregistered guests or visitors are allowed
- Smoking is allowed on certain areas on the property
- Please do not enter the paddocks when animals are present
- Please expect limited connectivity as the tiny house is set in a rural locality
- Mobile reception has good signals for Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, 2degrees and Spark
- Don’t forget to close the windows and lock doors when leaving the tiny house/ property
- Make sure to turn off the lights, air conditioning, and electronics (e.g., especially chargers)
- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge

Important note:

- Keep in mind that outdoor fire pits are not available during a total fire ban (The fire ban period is from 20 December to 30 April)
- Due to the nature of the property, abundant wildlife and insects may be present in the surrounding areas
- For stays of 5 nights or more, an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain the [compost/cassette] toilets and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.
