About this property

Seacliff cottage - in a beautiful historic reserve

The cottage is very comfortable and warm, normally used for our overseas guests, and sleeps 5.

Two night minimum stay.

The cottage has a double bed and bunks, and also a small single bed. The sleeping area is essentially one large bedroom, with an alcove where the bunkbeds are.

(This means the house can sleep five: in a double bed, a single bed and two bunk beds.) There is also a cot in the bedroom.

This property is set within the historic Truby King reserve, site of the old Seacliff asylum. It is an extraordinary woodland and it is locally known as "the enchanted forest". There are many easy walks in the reserve.

If you walk five minutes up the hill you get spectacular views of Otago peninsula and Karitane. It is five minutes drive to both Karitane and Warrington beaches, which are safe for swimming and surfing. At Karitane there is a fine walk round the peninsula and the cheese factory is nearby.

There is a woodburner in the living room, and firewood is supplied.

It is an easy, scenic 25 minute drive to Dunedin.

PLEASE NOTE: Though some maps and GPS systems show that the Seacliff end of Russell Road is accessible from Highway 1, it is not. When coming to our cottage, you must travel to Seacliff via Karitane or Warrington, and along Coast Road.

The cottage is one of two well separated houses on the property. We like to leave our guests alone for their stay, but please wear a mask and knock on our door if there are any issues.

NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to:
Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave.
Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/pillowslips). Dishtowels are supplied.

The house is a lovely little oldy. Not a five stars hotel, but it has all the basics we needed to keep us warm, causy, entertained and well fed. The kitchen is very well equipped. We've visited during unprecedented rain storm in the area, but the house withstood alright, with only a tiny bit of dripping. The host made sure we're fine during the storm and kindly offered us some products as it was impossible to get out to eat or to get groceries due to flooded roads. The surroundings are stunning. We highly recommend this place to spend few nights in a quiet environment.

Amazing stay!
Loved the house, felt incredibly homey and comfortable. Facilities were easy to use and maintained to a high standard! Super close to the Truby King Reserve which is lovely for an early morning walk.

Spacious bach. Contained many facilities and we appreciated the log burner on chillier evenings! A good base from which to explore the surrounding area. Would have no hesitation in staying again.

Lovely spot for a relaxing getaway if you're in the neighbourhood. Very secluded and peaceful. Great selection of games/books etc and comfortable wood fire. Helpful communication from host. Would be more comfortable with carpet, but simple, rustic charm.

Lovely Cottage
Great getaway in Seacliff. Beautiful surrounds and the cabin was cozy and warm. The reserve next door is beautiful and steeped in history. I spent hours walking around and exploring the old hospital ruins. Great experience.

Short break for beach event
This property was very handily located close to Warrington for a beach event. The close proximity to Karitane was useful for the local store. The bach is set in mature gardens that provided lots of shade and privacy. The facilities were all that was required for our needs and everything was in good order. The information provided for guests was good and helpful.

Great bach experience
What a wonderful 3 nights we spent at this bach. Perfectly located for a quiet retreat amongst the trees it was just a very short drive to the wonderful beaches of Karitane and Waikouiti. Warrington was close by. A real bach experience with more books, games and dvds than you could ever get through!! The night visitors ( possums on the roof) just add to the experience.
