About this property

Northland's Romantic Wilderness Retreat with Wi Fi

Fern Ridge Hideaway is a two bedroom redwood log cabin with open plan living, cosy gas log fire, fully equipped custom made kitchen with two elegantly appointed bedrooms with own ensuites, plus inside bath. French doors that open out to captivating native bush and coastal views.

Escape the hectic pace of urban living and enjoy a relaxing break at Fern Ridge- a secluded private wilderness retreat in the Maungataniwha Ranges just waiting for you.
Self-catering for 2 - 4 guests at any one time, the intimate location is ideal for a special romantic getaway for couples.

Fully self-sufficient, Fern Ridge Hideaway is environmentally friendly, utilising off-the-grid power generated by hydro electricity from an on-site waterfall.

Sunsets at Fern Ridge are quite simply breath-taking, you are first to see the sunrise and last to see the sun down on the horizon.

As the evening closes and you're relaxing in the outside bath on the deck with a wine, you may spot glow worms flickering among the foliage, or hear the kiwi bird calling.
Enjoy a nature tramp to a waterfall and swimming hole on the property.

Fern Ridge is a quick 20-minute drive to Kaitaia and a 1-hour drive to Kerikeri which is the heart of the Bay of Islands region. Situated in the ideal place to explore Northland and at the end of the day you can come home to the serene environment of Fern Ridge.

loved every second, didn’t want to leave

Amazing place with an amazing view. The perfect rainy getaway. Spotlessly clean, very well equipped kitchen, comfy beds, and roaring hot outdoor bath. Most cars should be fine on the driveway in the dry, but might want something a bit bigger for those slopes when wet. Already can wait to go back.

This property is immaculately presented.

This property is immaculately presented., with everything you could wish for, except, because the lodge runs on limited hydro power, there is no cloths drier. There is however plenty of hot water, and an effective gas "log" burner.. The property is situated high on a ridge above Mangamuka Gorge, and at times may be in clouds, but when not, the views are stunning.. The long steep access drive requires skill and/or a 4WD. The entrance is difficult to spot in the dark! A wonderful place!

This property is very unique.

This property is very unique. I loved the privacy and the peacefulness. Only the sounds of nature were to heard. I would recommend a 4 wheel drive for the steep driveway, and then you can drive Ninety mile beach as well. So close to incredible beaches, hikes and yet you have the mountain range all to yourself. Sun rise and sunsets were spectacular, even heard the Kiwi bird at night.

The property is absolutely stunning, waking up to the view that it has definitely makes your whole day. When I saw fern ridge advertised I immediately fell in love, however there is nothing like seeing it in the flesh and being in its environment. It is the ultimate dream house and the homely touches and the smell of wood that hits you when you walk into it, is definitely going to make you want to live there. I cannot thank Erin & John enough! I hope one day to have a house similar!
