The village of Glenorchy is nestled at the head of Lake Wakatipu, just a 40-45 minute drive from Queenstown, along one of New Zealand's most scenic roads.
On the edge of Mt Aspiring National Park, Glenorchy is an outdoor enthusiasts' paradise. Take advantage of the numerous day walks on offer, catering to all fitness levels. Visit Paradise and enjoy some the settings for movies such as The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
Activities include jet boating, kayaking, horse riding, guided walks and more.

Wonderful location & cottage
Super location & base to do lots & the Cottage is a wonderful place to stay wet & sunny. Town so close a short walk along the lake shore to the coffee shop is a great way to start the day.

A cosy wee cottage in Glenorchy
This cottage suited us just fine! Excellent location (short walk into the village) and we loved the views. Comfortable and cosy and suited the two of us perfectly. Well equipped. (Our only 'tiny' suggestion is that an additional 'softer light' lamp in the lounge and bedside lights would be pleasant for relaxed evenings.) We love Glenorchy (our third visit, but first time in this cottage) and would definitely choose this cottage for future visits.

Pretty Glenorchy Cottage
Super clean, recently renovated cottage with the owners' thoughtful touches everywhere (chocolates, nice shower products, fresh flowers and beautiful linen). Only niggle was that there is no glass or door between the bedroom and living space, so no escape from the snoring husband! But a gorgeous cottage in a glorious location. Highly recommend.

Near perfect—but with a crucial flaw for summer stays.
The view from the bedroom window is fabulous. The location is good (quiet despite being near the main road). The hosts are responsive and helpful and we really enjoyed our interactions with them. The price is really great for this area. It is sadly the hot temperature due to a non-working air conditioning unit that made our stay very uncomfortable. If you'd like a super detailed review it is posted at TheHikingBookworms.com. The A/C doesn't really work, and the hosts couldn't make it work. You have to keep the windows closed during the day if you don't want to be covered with sandfly bites and painful welts that last weeks, which means the inside was a very uncomfortable 30 to 35℃ (86 to 95℉) despite moderate temperatures outside. You can open the windows in full dark as sandflies aren't active then, but this dictated that our bedtime was 10:30 pm. The cool air generated this way allowed sleep, but lasted only until the sun hit in late morning. Other than that, this place is good, with minor issues that are no big deal considering the low price. The kitchen is small, but complete, and a little island gives a good bit of counter space. Warning that the can opener is barely functional, there are no deep baking dishes, and if the oven and stovetop are used simultaneously you can blow the circuit. Other than this it’s reasonably well stocked, and we were able to make full meals just fine. The bed is nothing special, but it’s adequately comfortable. It’s lovely to have a washing machine. The bathroom is new and has plenty of storage and counter space. The shower is okay but quite small. It’s very easy to bump your elbows in there, and if that bump happens to knock a body wash bottle off the shelf that’s right at elbow height, this can require a trip to the emergency room to ascertain if one’s toe is broken (personal experience!). The water temperature is quite variable. On a warm setting it will slowly trend to very hot, then sometimes unexpectedly go cold. We’d definitely stay here again in cooler weather. But in summer, we’d see if there were other options and/or would check back with the owners to see if they've installed a new A/C. Gorgeous cottage.

Petite Retreat Deluxe
My husband and I had travelled most of the country and Queenstown was on our list. No better time than now, we thought, but our choice of this cottage in Glenorchy (instead of Queenstown) is one of my very best holiday decisions. First, it was pet friendly and you would never know it. It was very neat, clean and tidy. No sign of being a "pet friendly" cottage (you pet people know what I mean). Our corgi and border collie were safe far back from the quiet street, so they sat on the porch with us to take in the views. The kitchen was very well equipped and we saved heaps by cooking meals while there. It was fabulous. The town does have a few cafes and restaurants, and we did test those too. Very nice. We stayed for 5 nights so we chose to bring a lot of kai with us, as you would need to do if you want to take advantage of the cooking option. Glenorchy is quite small, so you do want to stop in Queenstown or bring supplies from home (as we did in a chilly bin from the Wairarapa). Also, we did pick a day for a trip to shop and enjoy Queenstown, and that was definitely worth the drive and shouldn't be missed. Overall, however, this cottage in Glenorchy and the surrounds were the highlight of our trip down south.
