This place is a fisherman's paradise. Hunga and the surrounding Vava'u area offers a dynamic mix of fishing options. fishing techniques and an array of different species to target. Inside the lagoon is great for lure fishing, including soft plastics, slow trolled bibbed lures, spinning lures and probably any other lure you try. There are many spots as yet unexplored for rock fishing.
Turtles can often be seen bobbing cheekily in the water amongst schools of fish in front of our house. Vava’u attracts many humpback whales between June and November each year - as they head from Antarctica to the warm waters of Vava'u because of its deep water and its’ geographical location.
Perfect for kayaking, snorkling/diving. Explore the sheltered lagoon by kayak, optimist or Pep'e (3.8M aluminium coastal pontoon boat with 2 stroke 15hp engine, 25 litre tank, rod holders, portable VHF and anchor), and venture out to visit some of the neighbouring islands. About the host
Hosted by MaryP486

We purchased this property in 2007 and have renovated it over the years to a very good and comfortable standard. One'atea has been used for wonderful family holidays and for any interested guests to share, which we love. We are happy to hear from guests about their time at One'atea, it is a magical spot, with so much or so little to do. We recommend visiting from June to November, when it is not too hot :-)
Why they chose this property
We first visited Tonga in 2005 and loved it. Vava'u is an extra special place to visit, it has so much to offer - spectacular dive sites such as Swallows Rock, the Coral Gardens (snorkelling); the ford-like Pulepulekai Channel and whale watching/swmming from June to November. Sperm whales and dolphins are also seen duing the year. One'atea is located in Hunga Lagoon, a very pleasant 30 minute boat ride from Neiafu, the township. There are many outer islands located around Hunga, to vist and explore.
Your food and supplies can be purchased prior to your transfer as there are no shops on the island.
