Absolute Beachfront Paradise

Matapouri is a fantastic place to holiday - idyllic enough to relax and get away from it all, close enough to have lots of things to fill your day, whatever the season.
Our family has enjoyed Matapouri beach for many many years. It's a fantastic beach that is safe and sheltered and offers something for everyone.
The estuary behind the bach is a great place to use the two paddle boards - on the high tide you can venture a long way into the mangroves and then drift back on the outgoing tide.
Must do's include, a walk around the headland and a visit to sensational Whale Bay; there are plenty of coastal walks in a short drive; Head out to the Poor Knights (snorkling and diving) on a day trip from Tutukaka; There is a community tennis court (for those who don't mind the odd crack in the surface); For those who enjoy surfing (or want to learn), Sandy Bay is a short 10min drive away or on the right swell, Matapouri has some good waves; Another favourite is a visit to the Abbey Caves (about 25 mins drive) - best done during the dry months, its very cool though not for small kids. Other activities include golf in Ngunguru, horse treking from Sandy Bay and Tree Adventures. If you get tired of BBQ’ing and cooking for yourself, Schnappa Rock in Tutukaka is an institution.

The Perfect Spot for a Reunion with Friends
A long time in the planning (exactly 9 months ago) 10 of us; who had got together in Matapouri 10 years prior, came together again for 2.5 days of reminiscing, fun, laughter and smiles. The Hines holiday house was the perfect spot for us all...comfy and roomy, the location a mere couple of steps from the golden sandy beach and a vista to get all dreamy about....gorgeous. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone looking for a holiday house for a large group whether they be family or friends. The house caters well for all.

Just bring your toothbrush (it even gets it’s own view!)
If you want to feel like you’re living the dream whilst on holiday, this is the place to book. We felt like we had to keep blinking to confirm that the ocean was truly right there within reach and the Bach had everything we needed to be comfortable and catered for all our needs. Finding the SUP boards and giving something new a go was so fun! We got blasted by a storm but didn’t get cabin fever as the house has so many layers and really accommodates everyone. Just loved our stay and would love to come back for the best views in the bay!!

Excellent location, right on the beach with the estuary behind. Could sit on the deck while keeping an eye on the children playing in the sand. View is amazing especially from the master bedroom.

This beach-front holiday home has the wow factor in spades! For the first time in years, just when I really needed some R&R, this was the perfect spot to just laze and look at the view - no need to move! This place has all you need, from a well-equipped kitchen to the cosy fireplace for chilly nights - and a view that's hard to put into words. We will be back...

Magical beach property at stunning Matapouri Bay
We have been wowed both by our location here on the absolute beachfront & equally by a well-appointed generous & comfortable house. Everything we wanted this short break to be has been more than satisfied. A fully equipped kitchen, down to sandwich press & herbs etc.. plus good bed linens & towels & two sup’s & a kayak for fun times at the beach & on the creek. Lovely private deck & superb views of the beach. Excellent house (not really a bach). Here’s to waking up at dawn with a stunning pink sky & falling asleep to the sight of the Milky Way above us! Thank you

magical matapouri weekend
Blissful and magical, words to describe our weekend at this gorgeous beach house. Our family group was 6 adults and 4 children and there was plenty of space for everyone. The setting is just magnificent, Plenty of things for the kids to do a great kitchen and the woodburner was wonderful to heat up our chilly evenings. We would love to return to this beautiful place.

Perfect spot for my family. Unfortunately the dogs didn’t come but they would have loved it as well. The house is beautiful and comfortable. The fireplace in the lounge was a boon as it was cold at night. The view from the upstairs bedroom is breathtaking. Totally wonderful place.

Well equipped and right on the beachfront. We enjoyed using the provided surf ski in the waves at our doorstep, or just lazing on the large deck. A superb spot!

Such a great location!
Such a great location! The views from the living area and master bedroom are sensational! The house is neat & tidy with ample space for a family. We visited in the winter school holidays & thoroughly enjoyed the beach, local bush walks, refreshing dips in the mermaid pools, & nearby Ngawha hot springs. After long adventurous days, we cosied up in the house in front of the fire place (ample firewood provided), with puzzles & games . Lots to do inside & out!

Our second wonderful stay at this property .
Our second wonderful stay at this property . Best position on the beach in our opinion. Our elderly parents find the stairs a little difficult but the view from the master bedroom is magnificent. Super-comfortable beds. Well equipped kitchen.
