About this property

Herons Hangout

This is a fully self-contained cabin with its own bathroom, bedroom and kitchen area. We are located on the hillside overlooking Cooks Beach which is easily reached by a 15 min walk to the shops or 20 min to the beach. Ideally situated for all the attractions on the east coast of the Coromandel. Hot Water Beach, Hahei and Cathedral Cove are only a short drive away. Whitianga is a short distance away by either a 2 min passenger ferry ride or a 25 min drive. Lots to see and do including kayaking, horse riding, walking, fishing, golf, and much more. Some great restaurants close by and many more in Whitianga. Last but not least is the fantastic beach at Cooks which offers safe swimming for all the family. We are sometimes visited by dolphins and whales too!
Special conditions:
Smoking allowed outside only.
Dog allowed with prior approval (must be cattle, chicken and dog friendly).
A minimum late checkout fee of $20 will apply if it has not been agreed beforehand.

Please NO COOKING OF CURRY or FISH inside. We find the smell lingers which is unfair for our next guests.

I had a lovely stay at the Herons Hangout and it was a really nice spot that was fairly close to the beach. I had such a relaxing time there and was also introduced to Janet Adams the hen! :-)

Property is as advertised, very clean & tidy. Had everything you would possibly need. Property was easy to find GPS took us straight there. Good safe location, only 5 minute drive to beach & eateries. Enjoyed our 2 nights here.

We had an excellent 2 night stay at the Herons Hangout. The owners are very friendly and it was very nice that we could have our dog with us. The one thing that would make it better, is if there was a second bedside light. The fluorescent lighting is too harsh, when wanting to read in bed, and one bedside light is not enough to read by.

Great location off the main road on small farm with great views. Propery was clean, well maintained, and comfortable. Good base of operations for trvels to cooks beach, Haihei beach, Macedonia Nutt Orchard and Hot Water beach. Tracy was very nice and spoke to us when we arrived. She gave good advice on what to see on the area. Wish we could have stayed longer. The wine and liquor tasting she recommended was quite a unique experience with our host Danny at the helm. Lots of local history and many curiositties about tthe establishment.

A very handy spot
A lovely little cottage very handy to Cooks Beach. Although the weather was very bad and we went home early because of it I would stay again. Easy to deal with owners and lovely and clean.

This is an amazing wee gem of a place in Cooks Beach! Set in a peaceful setting about a 10 minute walk from the main beach. The overall set up is impressive and has everything you need. The hosts are lovely and welcoming... I will definitely be back!!

Tranquil Setting
The property was tranquil. very clean and well situated for our trips to Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach. Enjoyed our stay very much, even with the torrential rains that were hitting the area while we were there!
