Te Henga Hideway is especially suited for the nature lovers of you, but if you like the busy city life, restaurants, events or entertainment, Central Auckland is only a 40 minute drive away.
But it's all about nature here, such as:
- Lake Wainamu and the most amazing sand dunes, only 2km away
- Bethells Beach (Te Henga), 2.5km.
This beach, and O’Neil’s beach, to the right across the river, are very popular for surfing.
Bethells beach is a dangerous for swimming, as it is very rough and has a lot of strong undercurrents. So be prepared and respect the force of nature. Lifeguards are present for most of the time during the season.

- Montana Track in the Waitakere Ranges. A must to see, to appreciate our mature, native bush. You will see large Kauri Trees, up to 800 years old. Only 8km away from us.
- Piha Beach and the famous Lion Rock, one of the most taken pictures in New Zealand, 40km away from us.
- Muriwai Beach, also well known for surfing . There you will also see the largest Gannet Colony in New Zealand, 30km
- Karekare Beach and waterfall, 43km.
Te Henga and Karekare are very popular places in the Film industry. You may remember the award winning movie "The Piano". The Piano stood on Karekare Beach.
- Arataki Visitor Center on Scenic Drive. A great source of information about the Waitakere Ranges.
