About this property
Holiday Haven with an Ocean View
At the semi-historic McNulty House, you'll enjoy the brightly-coloured rooms, the all new paint, floors, washroom fittings and kitchen appliances and the view of the Atlantic Ocean's Bay of Fundy. At night, you'll be serenaded by the sounds of the crashing waves on Bayshore Beach just two blocks away, along with the distant music of the occasional freight train horn, all while catching glances of the beacon of the historic Partridge Island lighthouse. Restored antiques and other vintage furnishings provide true comfort and create an unmatched ambience - all just five minutes or less from the Carleton Martello tower national historic sight, the famed Reversing Falls and Saint John's Uptown district, founded in 1783.
An extensive two-year restoration yielded many artifacts from the property, displayed above its grand mantle, the huge night sky is perfect for stargazing with the telescope (provided in the drawing room) and you'll love searching for sea glass on the beach after a day of sightseeing!
What are you waiting for? Let's go!

About the host
Hosted by Ruth

Originally from Quebec, but having lived many years in the Southeastern US, I am a retired high school History and Social Studies teacher who enjoys flower gardening, antique restoration, traditional furniture weaving and travel - especially in my camping trailer. I live upstairs with my spouse, middle schooler, and five pets.
Why they chose this property
It is so close to everything! The ocean is just two blocks below the house (along with newly refurbished Bayshore Beach Park), the Carleton Martello Tower (a National Historic Landmark) is one block above us (and offers a commanding view of the bay, the city and more, and the famed Reversing Falls are less than five minutes away by car (and historic uptown Saint John and both area hospitals are less than a ten minute drive). Sidewalks abound everywhere, a gorgeously wild walking trail abuts the nearby Southern New Brunswick Railway (along the cliffs of the bay) and it is a quiet - almost tranquil - place to be. Come see for yourself!
What makes this property unique
Aside from the complete renovation/restoration of the property (2022-2024) making everything so comfortable and colourful, the house itself has had its own colourful history. Having had only six owners in its history - including several railroaders, a funeral director (who had erected a garage especially for his hearse!), a museum curator and now me, the home has a very special ambiance that you have to feel to truly understand. Whether you spend your time just using at as a place to crash at night while you sightsee, or enjoy looking at the millions of stars hanging over the ocean with the sitting room's own telescope (except for the starless nights where you'll hear a distant foghorn instead), the whole place feels like a warm embrace. Artifacts recovered from its walls during the restoration (as well from the grounds - which were used as an encampment for soldiers during the War of 1812) are displayed on the mantle, reams of engaging books on local and Maritime regional topics await your perusal (perhaps perched on the 1900s-era swivel stool?) and a "nursing rocker" from Bethesda Orphanage (the oldest in North America) will lull you to sleep. Handwoven stools in a variety of styles are fully functional and seaglass art creations scattered throughout are available for purchase. McNulty House offers you an unparalleled experience in its proximity to the ocean, its serene disposition inside and out and convenience to everything!
