About this property

Peaceful on Papawai

The best of both worlds - quiet country retreat just a short 1.6 km walk/drive from central Greytown - one of Aotearoa's most beautiful boutique destinations.

Built in 1910 for the Galdstone school master, this gorgeous restored villa offers a guest wing with a super king sized bed (can also be made up as two singles), lounge, luxurious bathroom, private deck, heat pump/air con wifi, kitchenette and stunning views. Bikes and a pool available (summer months).

Shuttle for station and restaurants by arrangement.
The space
Part of the main house but private (self-contained) including private access, the retreat has spacious, sun-filled rooms.

A character house on a 1.3 hectare section that includes sheep, chickens, veges, fruit and a stream. The house has been lovingly restored with all the modern comforts. Double glazing throughout with a mix of underfloor and heatpump/air con heating, it's warm and comfortable all year round.

Built to be as green as possible, the house features solar heated tank water and a septic system. The water is fully treated and drinkable and is plentiful but guests are asked to be considerate and kind to the planet and our systems.

As a rural property, you'll hear plenty of birds, and may hear our four footed neighbours (cows and sheep).

This is the ideal spot for a couple or two adults seeking a getaway (sorry no children or infants allowed for safety and suitability reasons).
Guest access
The retreat, its' garden and deck have private access and are just for you.

You're also welcome to stroll the grounds, help yourself to any produce currently in season, pet our sheep, or visit our stream. In the summer you can make use of our above ground pool.
Other things to note
The bedroom has two set up options. (Option 1: one super king bed. Option 2: two single beds.) Standard set up is option 1 (super king), if singles are needed, please request option 2 when booking.

Although there are no local taxis, we're happy to organise collection/drop off to the train station or restaurants on request ($5 a trip).

The kitchenette does not have cooking facilities. Milk, tea bags and coffee capsules are provided for arrival. A Nespresso machine, coffee plunger, toaster, kettle, mini fridge and utensils/crockery are also supplied. Bread, spreads and cereals can also be supplied on request (extra charge).

Onsite storage options for bikes, hiking gear etc are available on request.

Quiet & Peaceful

Just what we needed for some much needed rest. Lovely veggie & fruit gardens with animals grazing in the nearby fields. If it’s peace & quiet you’re after, this is the spot. Lovely hosts who make you feel really welcome.
