Small-mouth and large-mouth bass are plentiful along the rocky shoreline and throughout the bay. Or, fish right outside your front door on your own private pier or right from your waterside patio. After your fishing outing, clean your fish on the fish-cleaning table provided outside the cabin, or have them professionally cleaned.
Just want to go for a boat ride? Boat rides, tours, and fishing excursions are available with pick-up and drop-off right from your front door.
Why spend the same amount of money or more money for a motel room or rooms when you can stay in a waterfront cottage/home. Great Location!

We had a great time staying here. Everything was really clean & updated. The kids loved being able to walk out of the front door and fish right off the dock. It was very convenient being so close to Lakeside & Kelley's Island (which was the main reason for selecting this location). We will definitely come back here again!

Very easy stay

This was such an easy vacation. My husband and daughter could walk out the front door and fish. We saw lots of wild life. It's close enough to Sandusky for food and entertainment but far away enough for those quite lake evenings.

You can trust the good reviews!

When I see so many glowing reviews that mention the same features, I get a little skeptical. There was one scathing review, so that got me concerned about choosing this cottage. Well, my family really did stay there, so I can honestly say the other reviews are absolutely spot-on. The cottage was clean and bright, with a great view and many recent upgrades such as windows, floors, kitchen cabinets and counters. There is a large great room with the TV, kitchen, and table, two large bedrooms, bath, and enclosed front porch. The bathroom has a pedestal sink and stand-alone shower that is a reasonable size, all very clean. Not mentioned in the description, there were also nice pillows and bed spreads on all the beds, clean looking mattress pads, and TP, bath mats, paper towels, dish soap and foil wrap (though these may have been left by previous guests). The owners met us when we arrived and were very friendly. It was easy to contact them, but the rest of the time, the cottage felt like our home. The area is quiet and even the few boats coming into the small inlet were nearly silent. No loud parties! Because the negative review seems unfair to the owners and might put off future renters, I wanted to address a few items mentioned in it. The beds are the older, springy type that are common in cottages of this era, but we found them comfortable. The mattresses are about 7” thick, not “paper thin”. The AC unit is mounted in the living room, controlled by a thermostat (not a window AC). It did take a while to cool down the cottage but then it kept it cool with no problem. The mirror behind the house is to allow boats coming and going to avoid each other as the channel is quite narrow. The beach is close enough for me to watch my kids from the cottage. We saw only two water snakes during the whole week, partly because we were looking for them. Once spotted, they ducked under and swam away. They are not poisonous and seem very shy. We all swam in the lake without incident. The jetty is private to the small neighborhood, including the rentals, and not open to the public. There was room for lots of people to fish. The only (tiny) negative item I can report is spotty wi-fi. I would not hesitate to rent this cottage again. It was a wonderful vacation for my family.

relaxing,enjoyable,fun,lots of fishing

We had a wonderful experience staying at Avalon on the Bay. Fishing 5 feet from the entrance to the house. Caught fish on almost every cast. The view from the enclosed porch is breath taking. Seeing the sun set across Lake Erie was a beut. If your looking for a quite relaxing vacation this is the place to be. Close to Cedar Point, Put In Bay, Kelly Island, Light House, an many more attractions I highly recommend you see. The owners where there to greet us and contacted us daily to make sure we were enjoying ourselves Christine

Great Place to Stay

This was a wonderful location to stay and take an advantage of all this area has to offer. Rental was very clean and owners were very accomodating. The view of the Bay and fireworks at Cedar Point every night were amazing. The location was perfect that it was enough off the beaten path to have peace and quiet but close enough to all the destinations that make this area so wonderful. It recommend to families like ours who want to get away and enjoy Lake Erie and Islands.

Choose a different place to stay!

Many things in this ad are either falsely advertised or are untrue & the owners fail to mention to the renters until arrival. There is one house in between the rental house & the house where the owners reside & a dock that runs behind all the houses on the stretch where the rental is. The rental is the last house in that row. On several occasions during our stay, we noticed the owner standing on the dock directly behind our rental, watching us while we were sitting on the side patio. This happened during early morning & late evening hours & later in the week, I noticed there was actually a mirror positioned on that dock that allowed him to see most angles of the rental house from where he was standing. The “private beach” advertised is actually not private. It is a shared beach in the community & there was a decaying, horribly smelling catfish dead on the beach when we arrived. We later had to pick it up & throw it away ourselves. The beach is not right outside your front door; it is actually positioned closer to the front of the owner’s home. The beach water is FULL of black snakes & not an appropriate place to swim, unless you like swimming with snakes. On the second night of our arrival, we found a dead kitten floating in the water next to our cabin. The next door neighbor is the one who removed the floating kitten from the water for us, not the owner. The “private fishing jetty” is also not private and is shared by the community. On two different occasions during our stay, my teenage son woke up early to go fishing off the jetty but it was already occupied by the owner & his family. Since we couldn't fish there, we had to drive several miles down the road to fish. The “a/c” that is advertised is actually an air conditioner that is suited for a small camper, not a cabin. The rental is hot inside & it stayed hot in there. Several of the bed mattresses were paper thin & very uncomfortable. Upon arrival the owner insisted that we only park in between the houses, & not directly in front of the rental. That seemed like a logical request because the front of the cabin faces the Sandusky Bay and has nice views. A day later, we woke up to an SUV that belonged to a visitor of the owner parked in front of our cabin & blocked our views for the remaining 6 days we stayed. Several times, when we drove/walked by the owner’s house, their grandkids would yell rude things to us & our children.

Wonderful in every way!

My family rented this cottage for a week. It was very clean and comfortable. My children enjoyed swimming at the Sandy beach daily, and made fast friends with the owners grandkids. You can fish off the jetty, and relax by the water, or go into town and enjoy the fun shops and excursions. The views are amazing, and the peaceful sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking. The owners, Jim and Diana are wonderful and were the best hosts ever! This truely felt like a home away from home. We loved it and can't wait to return.

The PERFECT spot on the Water to Rent

We were looking for a one week rental "On the Water", and found this place, that was perfect. Pictures on site are ONLY THE BEGINNING. Great spot, Great cottage, perfect for summer relaxation. EXCEPTIONALLY CLEAN. Knotty Pine inside. EVERYTHING you need. 3 of us. Caught many fish right off dock. Fireworks every night at 10pm from Cedar Point that you can see. Really Really Nice people. Jim and Diane are wonderful hosts. Has an A/C unit that works fine when needed. Usually open windows works well with the lake breeze. Beds comfortable, great for entertaining friends for the day. Price is very reasonable indeed. Recommend to anyone. A++++

Great place!

We love this place. Plenty of room to stash all of our gear, exceptionally clean, bright and airy. Lots of windows to let the breeze in, beautiful views, always something to watch, whether it's boats or nature. Lots of birds, e spotted a bald eagle a couple of times, and saw an owl a couple of evenings. Great place to look at the stars at night. And the fishing is great right off the jetty. Jim and Diana are so nice, willing to answer all our questions, and the neighborhood is peaceful and quiet. We hope to return again soon!

Pictures Say It All

This was an absolute treat for our family's annual vaction to the lake. The view is true to the pictures on this page. The fishing in the chanel was great for are 2 boys. Seemed like every morning they was right there in the chanel fishing, hollaring for me to get out of bed to see the large bass or catfish they had caught. Even the in-laws enjoyed the views of this wonderful cabin on the lake. We have found the cabin which we plan to visit each year. The cabin housed all 8 of us with no problem. Jim and Diane you will be seeing us at lest once a year for now on.

A wonderful quiet getaway!

We had a great time here at this lovely cottage. Cottage is roomy, plenty of space for all of our 'gear'. We especially loved the sunroom, windows for catching the breezes and enjoying the views. The kitchen was more like a 'real home' kitchen, plenty of counter space, cabinets, lots of pots, pans, dishes, and even a dishwasher! Great view over the kitchen sink. The nicest part about the cottage was the cleanliness, it has obviously been well taken care of by Jim and Diana, and it definitely shows. The neighborhood was great, friendly people, and quiet! We sleep with our windows open and we never heard the neighbors, parties, or boats, just the gentle slapping of the water along the channel. The outside of the cottage is wonderful, easy access to the docks, Jim was especially helpful to us with our dock, even adding a step down for us. Fishing was great off the jetty. We even caught two 26" catfish right out our door. We can't say enough about the helpfulness and friendliness of Jim and Diana. They are just great people. We hope to return next year!

One of my most memorable and relaxing vacations!

We had seven in our group, including a 3 year old and a 6 year old. I enjoyed this vacation more than most simply because it was the most relaxing one I have ever been on- including cruises. Being able to take my two young girls out to the private beach every day was priceless. I was able to sit and watch them play in the water without fear, because the beach is graded and walkable several yards into the lake. In the evenings we would all make dinner, fish, swim and watch the fireworks that go off every night at Cedar Point at 10pm (You can see them from the jetty really well) We enjoyed meeting Jim and Diane, and our children enjoyed playing with their grandchildren very much- so much that we MUST come back next year to catch up with them! This was the first time I have had a vacation that I was truly sorry to see end.Thank you Jim and Diane for a most enjoyable family vaca! Hope to see you next year!

Ideal access to Bay and Lake Erie for fishing

Our five-person family-oriented crew, from IN, KY, MI, ID and GA, spend a week fishing each May. We've fished as far as north as Lac Gueguen near Val-d'Or, Quebec, Canada and as far south as Lake Douglas in Tennessee and Avalon on the Bay proved to be among the top 5 places we've rented! The ease of access to Lake Erie from the house is incredible...quick to return to the bay/house in inclement weather. The private slip behind the house IS IDEAL as we take alot onto and off of the boat each morning and evening. The fishing off the jetty was fruitful for bass. Jim was very gracious with his fishing tips and tricks and attentive to all of our other questions! It was nice knowing Jim was two houses down, should anything go awry. But since the condition of the cottage was impeccable, there wasn't much concern that something would go wrong. The cottage was as depicted in the pictures. What isn't shown is a 13" color CRT TV; this didn't bother us though since we played cards and games in the sunroom when we weren't out fishing. One bedroom has one Double bed; it would be nice if it were a queen or king-sized bed...to fit two people more easily. The hot water heater is on the small side...only one of us were able to shower normally before it ran out; or two, if we turned the water off in between rinses. We created a 'shower schedule' or sorts by week's end. All-in-all our experience was most pleasant and relaxing. I am so thankful Jim & Diana keep this gem on the rental market...we will be back for more Walleye fishing! Thanks from the Fishin' Five!

Perfect family vacation.

We stayed the last week of June 2011 and it was perfect for our family (3 boys). The location of the cottage is centrally located to many attractions and water activities. While we were there, we visited Put-in-Bay (Adventure Bay is a must with kids) and Cedar Point. The cottage is very clean and spacious with all the amenties you need. The sunroom has an incredible view. Although there is a very small beach area in front of the property, we went to the East Harbor State Park Beach. We rented a boat from Clemons and took the kids skiing and tubing. It was a very fun vacation and the property owner, Jim, was a great host. You may see him on Shark Tank some day.

Very well kept, clean cottage with easy ten minute access to the lake. Jim and Diane were great hosts and really CARE about how your stay goes......I would highly recommend this cottage if looking for a place with a view, easy access to Lake Eire and the Islands, and close to the numerous family activities the Marbelhead/Sandusky area has to offer.

Very relaxing stay

Recently my sister, cousin, and I stayed here. It was most enjoyable. The accommodations were excellent and the view was spectacular. The location was perfect for what we wanted to do; shop, swim, ferry ride to the islands, and just plain relax. The cottage was spotless and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We enjoyed going out during the day and looked forward to returning to our "home" in the afternoon and evening. It was just perfect. Thanks to Jim and Diana for providing a great little get away. I do hope we can make it back someday.

Great Location

Wonderful location, close to all the things to see & do in the area. Perfect place to stay if you have a boat and want to be in the middle of everything. Nice dock, sheltered from wind & waves (fit my 23' boat perfectly). Very clean and well maintained cottage. The owners are very friendly, and went the extra mile to help us out. We (family of 4) had a great time, and would definately stay here again!
