About this property

A VERY NICE 43' YACHT WITH LONG RIVER VIEWS AND ONSITE RIVERSIDE DINING

The Jewel in so many ways, has it all: For openers, you will have 2 parking spaces, and they are directly behind the Jewel! Pulling a trailer? We will find a space for it as well.
As for boarding, it is relatively easy no matter our ages. (See picture)
Then once you are inside, you will enjoy either central AC or heat, a private bedroom and bath with a shower/tub, a second very large v-berth bed and a small second bath with shower, a well equipped galley with fridge, separate ice maker, microwave/convection oven, cook top, filter style coffee maker (coffee aboard), toaster, double stainless steel sink, ample counter space, cabinets and everything needed to cook and serve your favorite dishes. And when the day is done, you will find a 32" smart TV and internet, a comfortable leatherette sofa and two very nice stuffed recliners just waiting for y'all to enjoy in the Jewel's spacious living room.
Outside? You can enjoy a covered stern deck to just laze, or to watch the show of life along the river. And at the end of the you might might wittness some absolutely stunning sunsets.

NOTE: This section of the marina has several liveaboard families. Therefore, loud music or excessive partying will not be tolerated!

To continue: If history is your thing, then you will appreciate that no one spot in the U.S. can offer more of our history than the five miles surrounding this area. It was all here, from prehistoric Indian villages (Pocahontas lived here with her husband John Rolfe), and the 2nd English settlement (Henricus, 1611, which was named for King James' youngest son), or the earliest plantations or Civil War and Revolutionary War skirmishes and full scale battles.
Sports of every kind are close by too, including the new Virginia Capitol Trail for cyclists, hikers and meanderers. And it might sound like bragging, but there is no place in the entire area that can surpass the fresh air surrounding this vessel! That is because the river runs south thru southwest just off the Jewel's stern. Yet off her bow open farm land runs from the south thru southeast and back to the north to complete the circle.
This boat and the surrounding areas are a great find for those who want to enjoy a quaint, private, and safe location, whether it is for a one night stay or a longer staycation.

Wonderful

Captain Ron and the "Kayla Leigh" were both terrific. Ron is both an abundance of information as well as an equal amount of life stories well worth hearing about (and you can read much more about in his published book that welcomes you inside the Kayla Leigh). The boat itself comes with all the creature comforts of a very unique "home." A very comfortable living/TV room. Strong internet connection. A well stocked galley. Two bedrooms whose beds give plenty of room to stretch out on. Two bathrooms. Even a very warm electric fireplace that we took full advantage of when the evening and early morning temps happened to plunge during our visit. There's also a comfortable deck to sit and watch and enjoy the river from .There's also a terrific bar/cafe within a simple stroll from the boat that had a couple of terrific musicians playing the night we enjoyed out stay and plenty of food/drink to consider ordering. We would definitely stay again if our travel plans have us staying in the Richmond, VA area.

Great River Getwaway

Simply a beautiful spot on the James River with a great restaurant and live music. This is an older boat and boats are different than a house so keep that in mind if you havent been around boats. Ron is a wonderful host who is extremely responsive. He looks out for his guests and is full of wonderful stories. We'll be back!

James River Vista

Right on the James River with sunset views! In the midst of so much early American history, we also enjoyed Jamestown and civil war battlefields. We loved the boat - The Jewel of the James! Capt Ron was an engaging host, supremely knowledgeable in the local history and culture. He went out of his way to ensure our comfort. Lots of fun!

Amazing Experience!

We had such a nice experience on Ron's boat. Nice fishing, star gazing and enjoying the nature around the boat. We saw tons of eagles, osprey, sturgeon, turtles, birds and fish. We could just sit for hours and enjoy nature unfolding along the James River. The boat itself is a beautiful, well kept classic. Clean , very functional, it is surprisingly spacious and comfortable. Ron was also a great host and very welcoming. He is a fascinating and enjoyable person as well as very accommodating and so easy to work with. 5 star experience!

Great pit stop on a long drive.

Although this once top-of-the-line luxury boat is showing a bit of age it is still in excellent condition. The marina has an outstanding Cafe.

Quiet Time on the River

Loved the vintage boat. Small but roomy enough for us. In a quiet, secluded area of the river with a close by restaurant with great food. Captain Ron nearby and a joy to get to know. Breakfast on our deck, watching the river, and looking for wildlife a real treat.

A fantastic alternative to hotel rooms

I planned a trip to Richmond Virginia for my son who is very interested in history. I had no idea that we would be so blessed to have Captain Ron be a historian of the area, giving us his time to educate us on the history of the land and help us feel comfortable on his boat. if you have spent time on boats and love the rocking to sleep, the beautiful sunrises, being more in nature, then this is the rental for you. Fantastic experience, strangely enough, more fun then Virginia Beach.

Shabby Chic!

The Kayla Leigh was a delight, a little shabby since she is getting up in years but still great value for money. Captain Ron was very attentive and gave great fishing tips. The general area was attractive and we enjoyed being away from the city.

River Front on the James

This is where you go to relax, sit back, enjoy the beauty of the James and its world. A short visit to touch on what life on a boat is like, just put your watch and cell back in your travel bag. One note for all, this is a boat, it has steps and narrow passageways so you should be agile. Thanks Ron for allowing us to enjoy your world. Steve & Liz

Excellent experience!

My wife and I decided to try something like this after many years of thinking about it, and we loved it. Boat was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. Meeting and getting to know Ron was the icing on the cake, as he is a great guy, extremely helpful and fun to talk to. We also got to explore Richmond, which we found to be a lovely city.

As an octogenarian and the last "huckleberry" still dangling on the bush along the James River who captained tugboats when they were "made of wood and men were made of steel", I am still making my way through the river of life as I enjoy meeting wonderful guests of every background, color, religion and creed, and from many places around the world.

Why they chose this property

This vessel is about as good as it gets in terms of privacy, value and service. It is clean, warm or cool (depending on the season) spacious and bright with great views of the James, and it is only a short stroll to the now famous Lily Pad restaurant and Chef Nick's hand cut and breaded calamari and his unequaled crab dip.

What makes this property unique

This small family owned marina is well managed 24/7/365.
