About this property

Nantucket Beach House - private beach

Right on the beach. Our deck is 110 feet from the bluff. You can watch the ocean from the house. 4 Queen bedroom, 3 bath beach house with private beach on the South Shore of Nantucket (Madequecham Valley) provides maximum privacy in an area of few houses surrounded by open and protected land reached by dirt road.

Private beach steps are only 110 feet from the house, along a pretty path. PS VRBO's map is wrong. VRBO map seems to indicate we are a mile from the beach, and says it's a 7 minute drive, but that's incorrect. Our house sits on the bluff overlooking the beach and ocean. We think VRBO is incorrectly pegging "beach" to the public beach nearby.

The spacious, light-filled, open floor plan hosts a modern kitchen, LR, and DR with fantastic views of the ocean. The DR opens to a very large, open deck overlooking the ocean, with two outdoor dining areas (one seats 10, the other seats 4), sitting areas, and a hammock.

Master BR suite on 2nd floor has a private bathroom and office area, plus two private decks offering sweeping views of the ocean, moors, sunrise, and sunset. All 4 bedrooms have Queen beds with new, organic mattresses, new sheets, new duvet covers. One BR opens to large front deck overlooking the ocean.

DR has new farmhouse dining room table and chairs. LR has newly upholstered furniture (please be careful not to spill on it, as we love the new patterns and they're hard to replace). LR has Satellite TV. Kitchen has a new (June 2022) refrigerator and washer-dryer; new (Aug. 2020) gas range, new tools, new cutting boards, new dinnerware, new flatware, new steak knives, new glasses, etc. Outdoor shower. New Weber charcoal grill (September 2021). Linens, beach towels provided.

Tenants may use owner's beach umbrellas, deck umbrella, boogie boards, and paddleboards if careful. Tenants will be charged replacement cost if they break our belongings. Tenants are also welcome to bring their own beach equipment.

Full unobstructed sky allows incredible nighttime star-gazing!

If you want peace, privacy, a gorgeous beach, and a natural setting, this is ideal. If you are hoping to be walking distance to shopping, then you might prefer to rent in town. If you aren't familiar with Nantucket, please realize that Nantucket is a rural community. It's not a hip urban setting. For example, half of Nantucket roads are dirt roads (including ours) and they can be bumpy. It's not a place where you call an Uber to go to bar-hopping. It is a place where you can rent bicycles to ride to an outdoor brewery with live music, surrounded by farmland.

No Pets. Owner is allergic.

Check-in 3 p.m.; check-out 10 a.m. Early check-in or late check-out is sometimes possible, at a rate of $100 per hour, but only with owner's permission.

11.7% state tax not included on rentals less than 31 days. One week minimum rental. Discount for multiple weeks. Steep discount for monthly rental.

Driveway and beach steps are shared with 2nd home on the property.

Wonderful location

If you are looking for a fancy modern house, then this house is not for you. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a clean, quiet house with a wonderful view of the ocean, then this house is for you. Our 5 day stay was very nice. When you drive there, make certain you take the dirt road close to VFW Post. The other option, recommended by Google Maps, is treacherous!

Lovely house and great location

The house was lovely along with the location. My husband, myself and child had a wonderful time. The house was well equipped with plates and silverware, the gas stove was new, the beds were very nice along with the bedding. We loved the views of the ocean throughout the home.

Super!

We loved this place. The house is cozy and well-equipped. The beds very comfortable. The location is stunning; right on the bluff over the ocean and in a sparsely developed area with loads of wild green space. Great bike paths all over the island; do rent a bike and explore the island. Carrie is a very attentive and responsive host. Do note there is no AC or wifi. We didn't need AC during our September stay. The cell reception is very good. There isn't much beach directly in front of the house, but the beach widens a short walk away. The beach access is a steep metal stairway. There is a mile or so of dirt road to get to the house, bumpy with a lot of washboard and you may get brushed by branches.

Amazing Home on the Beach

We had the most wonderful time staying at this home in late May. The house was perfectly clean and had everything we needed for our trip. The most special part of our visit was being on the beach in Nantucket and the beautiful views of the water. It was a magical setting and we felt lucky to have stayed there. We hope to have the opportunity to visit again!

Nantucket Hidden Escape

We have been coming to Nantucket for 20+ years and found this home to be a hidden gem. The old school picture perfect feel, long dirt road, out to a beautiful ocean view with limited homes and falling asleep and waking to the sound of the crashing waves made it absolutely perfect for the relaxing experience we were looking for. You are steps away from a gorgeous and quiet beach, with the deck off the back perfect for bbq's. Really looking forward to another trip in the future. Carrie is extremely responsive, which also helped the entire experience. I would recommend renting a car, getting some delicious food to BBQ, turn off the screens and RELAX! Thanks for having us- can't wait to do it again soon!

Great Property. Great Stay

We really enjoyed our stay. Easy access to the beach with a fun shorebreak. It is so relaxing to be outside of town. We were able to get into town in 15 minutes or so. The place was squeaky clean & tidy. Great deck with unbelievable star gazing. Carrie was a great host. Responsive and very easy to communicate with.

Beautiful beach front property

Location of the property is beautiful, you have a private deck and a path that goes out towards the ocean. There’s a very steep, long metal staircase that leads down to the water. Once down it’s a private beach and very clean. The road leading to the house is unpaved and Ubers will not drive down it. The conditions when we were there were poor but this is rare. It was very difficult to drive with the large pot holes. The house has a cozy master suite upstairs with two decks and a small bathroom. There are two additional bathrooms downstairs and 3 big bedrooms. It’s hard for everyone to shower at the same time or run the dishwasher or washing machine. Be quick if you want hot water! You need to wash your sheets and towels prior to leaving. House is not stocked with the basics like condiments, butter or coffee so buy everything at the local store before driving out. Communication with the owner is great!

Views awesome, road is BAD!

The views are everything you expect and maybe more. They are beautiful and expansive. Unfortunately we were the first visitors of the season and they didn't make much effort to ensure the property was properly ready. Found out coffee pot was cracked when cut my hand making coffee the first day. Spent an hour trying to figure out the Satellite TV situation to watch Celtics playoff game to find out that it wouldn't be turned on(for the season) till the next day. The refrigerator door would not stay closed so had to keep bottled water up against it. Need to strip and wash beds and towels (which is fine) except the dryer didn't work. It became very obvious that no one had bothered to check that the house was "ready" for guests. Carrie was very responsive to emails and sent handyman next morning with new coffee maker. He tried to fix fridge but couldn't so we continued to use water to keep closed. The owner mentioned in the reviews that the dirt road wasn't bad and she drove a Prius so we rented a Camry .....big mistake. Definitely need something with high clearance to safely navigate to the road. Allow 10 minutes to drive the less than 2 miles of dirt road. But if you are looking to get off the beaten path and enjoy the ocean, this may be for you.

We enjoyed a great time on the island and at the property during our work trip that included some fun off time. The views are gorgeous, and the property was nice.

Lovely, remote, relaxation

My group had a such lovely time renting the house in Madequecham. Having the beach at your doorstep is such an incredibly unique feature on Nantucket. It was a week of stepping back in time - driving down dirt roads (tip: you’ll want a 4WD vehicle) to get to one of the more undiscovered, remote parts of the island where even WiFi cables don’t reach. A truly great place to unplug and slow down - exactly what we wanted. Carrie was a beyond fantastic host and made the entire process seamless. She was there for every question at every turn. We can’t wait to return.

We love Nantucket. We've been here for 50 years. We love the peace and tranquility of our area. It's undeveloped, and surrounded by Conservation Land and protected land. Very few houses along the bluff. All lovely people.

Why they chose this property

This is one of the prettiest beaches in the world, and it's incredible to have a huge private beach to ourselves. Gorgeous sunsets. Great fishing, swimming, surfing, and paddleboarding. Some days the waves are calm for paddleboarding, and sometimes they're big and great for surfing.

What makes this property unique

Large private beach. Privacy. Beauty.
