Originally constructed in 1969 with an addition in the mid ‘70’s, the Flying Monkey embraces the ambiance of a true Outer Banks summer cottage while sporting modern conveniences and fresh local decor. This three bedroom, one full bath and two half bath cottage has a unique floor plan. The main structure is comprised of two bedrooms, one full and one half bath, kitchen and living room. Out the back door, through the covered breezeway, is the master suite featuring another half bath and laundry. This setup can accommodate a wide range of vacationers and is perfect for multiple couples, parents/grandparents or anyone that appreciates a bit of separation from the rest of their party while on vacation. All bedrooms are furnished with a queen bed, nightstand, dresser, mirror and 32” Roku smart TVs. Additionally, the master also includes a small sitting area making it - almost - a complete escape from the main house. Outdoor living space is abundant here. The front porch in the main house is comfortably furnished and is perfect for morning coffee or afternoon cocktails. The breezeway between structures has a small sitting area, outdoor shower and access to the patio which includes a Jacuzzi hot tub, picnic table and propane grill. Most importantly, a direct pedestrian only beach access only 500 feet, a 2 minute walk, away.

Linens, towels and a starter supply of paper products are included. There is hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes available for use as well. The only additional charges are the state/county occupancy taxes, house/hot tub cleaning fee.

This is a great rental! Clean, perfect amount of bedrooms/bathrooms and loved the separate suite in back of house. They had everything you could need and it was such a short walk to the beach! We highly recommend this rental!

Family of 6 adults enjoy stay at flying monkey

House appears small and dated from outside. Inside home is decorated and includes all kitchen needs plus more . having clean beach towels, beach chair, umbrella And beach toys was perfect. Front porch was great to relax with morning coffee. Picnic table on side of house with bbq needs an awning to enjoy eating outside on sunny days. Communication with owner with questions was very responsive to our needs. Would stay at home again.

The perfect getaway

The house was great! The best perk is being within close walking distance to a quiet beach! The hot tub, outdoor shower, and grill were all great ammenities of the house. The house was clean and had beach chairs/umbrella/wagon to use.

Great family vacation home!

We loved our stay at the Flying Monkey! Our group had parents and 2 twenty-something kids in attendance. It has a lot more space than you would think from the outside. Super cute décor, we loved the 3 bedrooms and bathrooms. Also, it was very clean. We loved the beach which was a short walk away. The screened in porch and outside shower were also nice touches.

OBX Trip

Everything was awesome. They only problem was a moldy shower curtain. The house though was adorable and comfy. Plenty of beach accessories available such as chairs and wagon. Hot tub was awesome.

Relaxing weekend at the Flying Monkey

The Flying Monkey is a clean comfortable cottage close to the beach. Everything neeeded for the stay was supplied, linen, towels, beach towels, beach chairs etc. The hot tub was clean and relaxing. We are definitely considering another longer stay!

Disappointed

After staying at "The Monkey" back in 2021, my girlfriend and I were excited to return in October, 2023. It was a wonderful place with a great location, well equipped kitchen, easy check-in, and very close to the beach. We LOVED our first stay. Everything was the same as in 2021, except the cleanliness. Whoever is charged with cleaning the place should be fired by the owner. This review pains me because it is a great place. The worst part of the stay was the overpowering musty smell in the back cottage. We ran the ceiling fan, opened windows and purchased 2 containers of "Damp-Rid" to try to alleviate the smell with no success. The smell was strong enough that sleeping was difficult. Other issues: 1. Two dead cockroaches. One in an empty dresser drawer and one on top of the dryer. 2. Baseboards that had not been wiped down for some time. Very dirty. Likewise with the top of the refrigerator. 3. Once you open the windows, the sills were filthy. This was not simply the result of one or two missed cleanings - this was accumulated dirt. 4. The window sills on the front screened porch were filthy. 5. The outside shower walls were moldy and algae was growing on them. Yes, it is what you might expect from an outdoor shower, but it would be easy to take a brush and a bit of bleach water and clear the growth. 6. A broken toilet seat in the back cottage bathroom. 7. The shower head in the bathroom of the main house had mold growing on it. A disappointing stay.

Beachy style & walkable to beach!

This adorable cottage had everything we needed! Even some coffee to get us started and shampoo/conditioner which we forgot! The beach was so close we could run back and forth as needed. And the cutest coffee shop was also steps away. The hot tub completed our perfect trip! We had a little storm but it just added a little excitement! We would definitely stay again and bring some friends/kids next time😁😁😁

Kill Devil Hills September Get Away

We had a great time at this cute little house. It is a short walk to the beach as advertised. Loved relaxing in the hot tub. Outdoor shower was truly handy. The third bedroom is a private room that would be great for traveling with friends or older children. Well stocked kitchen and screened in porch with everything you need for a beach day. I highly recommend it!

The cutest cottage

This was my first time staying at a little cottage like this and it was worth every penny, the location was perfect for getting our little one to the beach and back and we were close to plenty of food options. The inside of the cottage was clean and so cute and felt so cozy, I would love to stay here again!

Wonderful stay!

We had a fantastic trip, and the place was terrific. The house had everything we needed and was an easy walk to a beach that wasn’t crowded, even during high season. There is a cute coffee shop and another breakfast/ice cream place about a block away, and you could either walk or take a short drive to tons of shops and restaurants. The layout of the house worked really well for our group, and our host was extremely communicative and accommodating. We would definitely stay here again!

I was born and raised in Illinois while my wife was born and raised in Virginia Beach. We met on blind date in 2000 and were married 1 year later. We currently live in Moyock (about an hour away) and have three wonderful children, a son and 2 daughters. We have vacationed in the OBX for many years and have always wanted to purchase a place for ourselves. It has taken some time, but here we are and we are looking forward to helping provide a wonderful vacation experience to all our guests.

Why they chose this property

When we started looking for properties, we had some pretty strict ideas about what we were looking for. When we first looked at this property, my wife fell in love and we knew this was the house we were looking for. With a 3 minute walk to the ocean and located in the center of everything, it really was a no-brainer!

What makes this property unique

Most vacation rentals on the Outer Banks require a week stay with strict weekend turnover. The Flying Monkey allows check-in and out any day of the week and only requires a three night minimum stay. Also, the house is equipped with electronic key-less entry so there are no keys to pick up, lose or return! Check-in is guaranteed by 3:30 pm and check-out is prior to 10:30 am.
