About this property

Ski for free! Ski in/out Above Schweitzer Village

Schweitzer is open and the snow is coming down!

Are you ready to experience THE EXPERIENCE? Learn why we have so many repeat guests, year after year.

If you are looking for the best ski in/out on the mountain, you have found it. If you’re looking at other homes claiming ski in/out, make sure to ask if you can truly ski to and from the home on a groomed run without crossing streets, parking lots, neighborhoods, or taking small, unmarked trails (read other’s reviews about location - many complain about hiking to a trail or crossing streets multiple times). VERY few homes at Schweitzer are TRULY ski in/out. The heated garage/locker room at Chutes Chateau is just a few dry, level steps from the groomed run and the location allows you to ski in/out for night skiing as well.

On top of the best location for ski in/out at Schweitzer we also include lift passes for your stay. Up to *** 4 complimentary passes *** are available for every day of your stay. This is almost a $550/day savings compared to purchasing adult lift tickets at the ticket window.

Would you rather spend time with your family skiing and enjoying all Schweitzer has to offer or running down the mountain for groceries? There is NO grocery delivery to Schweitzer so we created it, and exclusively for our winter guests. Do you want dinner reservations or spa reservations made in advance of your trip? Are you new to Schweitzer and want a quick guided tour? We offer that too, just ask.

Chutes Chateau is a stand alone home in the Mountainside Community directly above Schweitzer Village. Arrive to a heated street and heated driveway and a TRUE ski in/out location that doesn't involve traveling down to the new Creekside Express lift/parking area (lines can be LONG on weekends) or walking/crossing ANY streets. Walk 3 steps out of the garage, strap in, and you're on a groomed trail and end up at the two main high speed lifts in the heart of the village. From the mountain, you can ski directly back to the garage via a groomed ski run, no crazy trails to follow, and you end up right back home. Chutes Chateau sets the bar for the term "ski in, ski out,” yet is still just a short trail walk to the Village for dinner and drinks.

Chutes Chateau is 3 levels with the main/middle level containing the fully equipped kitchen, dining room, living room, powder room, and outdoor deck with a gas fireplace & gas grill to relax at the end of the day. There is also the garage - setup as a heated ski locker/gear room with a commercial grade boot/glove dryer, fans, and a dehumidifier to make sure your gear is warm and dry after lunch or for the next day. Upstairs is for the big kids with 3 bedrooms, including the enormous Master Suite (king), en-suite bathroom with a jetted tub and a Dyson Airwrap hair dryer so you don’t need to bring yours. The Master Suite overlooks Lake Pend Oreille and comes with breathtaking sunrises (see photos - these are actual sunrise/sunset photos from the master bedroom). Also upstairs are another 2 bedrooms, both with queen beds and views of the mountain, plus another full bathroom as well as the laundry - an oversized washer/dryer fully stocked with supplies. The lower level is for all ages with a family room complete with a queen pull out sofa bed and attached double bunk room. There is also another full bathroom and a theater room to relax and take in a game, show, or movie. The lower level deck is where you will find the hot tub with the water changed out between guests, a heated walkway to the hot tub, and oh - the view from the hot tub will leave you speechless.

What else sets Chutes Chateau apart from the rest? Beyond arguably the best ski/in out on the mountain, Chutes Chateau is setup with the latest smart features, including a whole home SONOS sound system, a whole home steam humidification system to eliminate the static and breathing issues that happen in nearly all other ski resort/alpine homes. How about an automatic backup generator in case of a power outage? - we’ve got that too, it even powers the hot tub if the power is out! Multiple smart TVs with YouTube TV (with NFL Sunday Ticket included), Netflix, and Disney+ included and the ability to log into your own accounts for other services if you'd like. Smart Phone Chargers setup in every bedroom giving you the ability to wirelessly charge your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. Have you ever run out of hot water for showers with a big group? We had too so we installed a tankless water heater system with a backup heater so you don't need to worry about cold showers - unless you like them. Complimentary locally roasted, fresh ground coffee (or whole bean, your choice) and fine wine will greet you in the kitchen upon your arrival. Also included in the kitchen pantry is a variety of organic soups, hot chocolate and popcorn for the kids, as well as a few other complimentary items. We care about your safety on the Mountain as well, we provide each guest with a whistle to add to your ski jacket (you keep it) as well as use of our RECCO tags during your stay. We’ve even upgraded our complimentary toiletries to Aveda products for the 24/25 ski season.

Last, but certainly not least, you have hosts who are locals. You won't be dealing with an 800 number to a call center who knows where. If you have questions we are always available and are often at the mountain ourselves.

Awesome Family Ski Trip Home

Our family of 9 (6 adults and 3 children ages 3,2 and 8 mos) just returned from an awesome 5 night stay in Schweitzer. Jack’s home is the best place we have stayed in our 35 plus years of family ski trips!! It certainly was the cleanest and the most accommodating! Jack provided pack and plays, bed rails and a hook to counter high chair. Local coffee, grocery delivery service, snow sleds, media room, hot tub, a corner lot where you can just walk onto the mountain from the garage and build a snowman!! Even zip locks !! If I called, Jack answered! And he provided ski passes which was the icing on the cake!!! As Texas we were very happy that the altitude is also lower than most places - something we were very happy about! Loved this place !

Amazing chalet, amazing management

Definitely the best rental experience we've had at Schweitzer yet. Great communication from management, super easy check in/out, very well appointed and maintained property, awesome gear room in the garage, ski-in-ski-out direct from the house, etc. The movie room was great for the kids while the adults relaxed in the hot tub. The complimentary ski passes were icing on the cake.

True Ski In Ski Out

If you love to ski and love, great views, this is the house for you. House had everything we needed and was very comfortable. Everything was in great shape, and has some of the best access on the mountain. The garage is completely set up for getting ready to ski , and even has a industrial boot/glove dryer. Comfort for every generation

We had grandparents to teens, 10 in total, staying together. This home provided privacy and space for everyone and we all enjoyed being walking distance to all hill eateries. A number of us hiked up Schweitzer and it was a fantastic challenging short hike. The home is also beautifully appointed from the coffee maker to the hot tub! Highly recommended and would return in a heartbeat.

Best VRBO we have ever stayed in!

We have been taking a yearly family ski trip the same week for 20 yrs and rented many properties. This property is by far the best we’ve ever rented. Immaculately clean, very well appointed home. Everything was in perfect working order, and perfect for our two families. Ski in ski out was as promised, kitchen was equipped with all necessary cooking items for a large group. I’d recommend this property with five stars. The owner, Jack left excellent instructions for home and community information. We’ll be back!! ~Deborah Oliver Carlabad, CA

Perfect Schweitzer Stay

We absolutely loved Jack's home on Schweitzer. We had two families staying in the home (4 adults, 4 kids between the ages of 10-16) and the home was perfect for us. The home is located on a ski run, so perfect for the mid-day break and getting up early to hit the lifts. It's also just a short walk to the shops and restaurants at Schweitzer as well. Everything in the home was well thought-out - including having the garage converted into a seating area and gear storage (complete with gear dryers). The kitchen is well stocked with all of the small appliances needed, plenty of dishes and glasses, and a great selection of cooking items. The hot tub was fantastic in the evening to relax and although we didn't use the firepit, it looked like it would be great. I would highly recommend staying here for any trip to the lifts!

Annual President's Day ski trip

The property far exceeded our expectations. Jack and team left no detail overlooked. There were several amenities that most hosts do not include! The stocked pantry was much appreciated when our flight was delayed by 3 hours and we got to the mountain later than planned. the kitchen is perfectly appointed. We as cooks appreciate quality cooing utensils and plenty of storage and mixing containers. We weren't washing silverware every meal! the bedrooms are all well appointed as well as plenty of linens and towels! The hot tub is smaller than in some units, but this was well communicated in the description. The host is local and was available for any request me may have had! We will be back!

Perfect Idaho Stay

The house was everything you'd hope when renting a luxury home. The view is lovely. The pictures online of the outside of the house might give the impression of a tight fit, but there was plenty of space for our extended family. We were able to comfortably gather on the main level. Having three different levels also gave the adults privacy and quiet from the littles in the morning and late at night. The bed mattresses were great. Other furnishings were very nice and comfortable. The hot tub overlooking Lake Pend Orielle was thoroughly enjoyed. We appreciated how well-stocked the unit was. Coffee, extra detergent, batteries, a toolbox in the garage. It was nice not to have to make extra trips to the store. Accessing the unit was a breeze, no formal check-in required. We used the keys provided to access the Schweitzer Lodge pool and workout facilities within walking distance. There are loads of wild huckleberry bushes growing along the road up the mountain. Picking huckleberries was a fun treat for our grandchildren.

The house was really great. It was well appointed with very nice appliances, furniture, and bedding. The cleaning crew did an awesome job as it was spotless. The location is great - 25 min to Sandpoint and a few blocks to the main resort area at Schweitzer. Jack was very responsive and answered all our questions. Flawless stay!

Incredible home

This amazing new home is great for ski in and out. It is beautifully appointed, spacious, has incredible views, hot tub, outdoor fire pit, movie room, bunk room. The variety of spaces were great for all of us to enjoy. The garage was brilliant for storing and using our ski equipment plus there are two more spots for parking outside. The kids totally enjoyed the small sledding hill next to the property. The owner was especially gracious in responding to any questions. This home is a gem at Schweitzer!

Why they chose this property

Location, location, location. So many places describe themselves as ski in/ski out. What they don't mention is the trail system and/or roads to cross either getting to the home from the mountain or getting to the lifts from the home. Chutes Chateau is at the end of a dead end street that dead ends at a groomed ski trail/run meaning that you can get your warm gear on in the comfort of the heated garage, open the door, 3 steps out and you are on the main groomed trail that leads right to the main village and main lifts. From the mountain the home is directly below, and easily visible from, the Stomping Grounds Terrain Park. No stairs to climb or hikes across roads in winter gear (unless the snow is really deep in which case there may be a snow stair or two to get to the run from the driveway). Even getting out and back from the home for night skiing is possible because the terrain park is well lit at night.

What makes this property unique

Beyond the amazing home itself you get local hosts, not an 800 number. We ski Schweitzer regularly and aren't afraid to share our favorite runs or powder stashes. Our unique knowledge of the mountain and runs can point you to a perfect day even if the weather isn't cooperating.
