Thanksgiving 2024

Our family of 5 adults and one dog stayed for 4 days. The view was awesome! Two decks and two living spaces were awesome except the upstairs fireplace was not working properly but we were able to enjoy the downstairs fireplace. Kitchen is very small but we had everything we needed. Very clean and cozy. Only complaint was that the owners had security cameras on the outside and you will be watched. FYI.

Lake Vacation

We had a great family time on the lake! Everything was exactly as described. Having the boat was a huge benefit! Everything was very clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.

Great Getaway

Our visit was during the quiet season, at the end of summer. We enjoyed a relaxing view of the lake from both upper and lower porches. The slope of the lot down to the water was doable for 65-70 year olds as long as we took our time. The kitchen was well stocked and the entire home extremely clean. The owners were quick to respond to any questions we had.

Great property

This was our 5th year in a row. Excellent property with great views. Convenience of a boat to enjoy the entire lake is a real bonus. We’ll be back. The hosts are the best.

Great time !

The house was very pleasing. The views from the porches were beautiful. We cooked most of the time and the kitchen was well equipped and grill worked great. It was extremely clean. Beds were very comfortable. It was definitely a bonus to have the boat available. Weather was fantastic!!

Beautiful views!

We loved our stay at Shady Rest! The view was gorgeous and we had such fun on the boat. The fire pit was a popular place in the evening, and the house was great for our large family. Thanks for sharing your home with us!

Beautiful Location

Lake Toxaway is absolutely beautiful. The house is located close to amazing hiking trails and water falls. Our three boys ages 7,9 and 10 had a blast in the boat fishing and tubing! We made lasting memories. The Shades were very good at communicating. We truly enjoyed our stay!!

Beautiful stay.

Rosie and Steve were great to work with. Their property on Lake Toxaway is beautiful. Boat was the reason we booked so we could experience the lake. Boat could use a little tlc but it ran perfectly. I would recommend this property.

Perfectly Peaceful.

We have rented several different places on Lake Toxaway and none have disappointed including this home. Having the boat was absolutely wonderful. The sheets/bed were surprisingly comfortable and I liked the cute mason jar soap dispensers in the bathrooms. Hope to come back again soon.

Restful, peaceful, serene stay

We were here in mid-October. The leaves were just beginning to turn, but the lake and its surrounding area were still fall-beautiful. Not sure how it is in the summer when I'm sure it's busier, but it was very peaceful and quiet while we were there. Just the right amount of crisp air a couple mornings was enough to remind you it was fall. Even though it was only a long weekend stay, we enjoyed every minute. We hope to be back in the future with the extended family.

Great lake house!

Had a great stay - house was fantastic. Right on the water! Clean, no issues whatsoever. Wish we'd had more time! 20 minutes from Cashiers, 30 minutes to Brevard, fishing, hiking - perfect spot. If you get time, drive up the mountain in Toxaway - the views from the top are amazing. Highly recommend this house - owners were accessible and answered every question quickly! Great folks and a great spot!

Fourth year in a row

The house is well equipped and has very good views from all bedrooms and living areas. The back porch overlooking the lake is a popular spot. Very private street. Drive through porte cochere fits two vehicles and is convenient to the front door. The use of the boat is a bonus. So is the dock and boardwalk. There is a nice firepit too. We’ll be back.

Refreshing Retreat

We were definitely ready for Some time away this summer as a family and Shady Rest was a great fit for our needs. The location is beautiful and right on the lake and all of the hydrangeas were in bloom. The kids were able to fish off the dock, Or relax on the lawn. We could roast s’mores over the fire in the evening After a day of fun on the lake. It was awesome to have the boat available and be able to use the Water skis as well as the tube for water time. The kayaks were perfect for paddling around in the early mornings were right around sunset with the mountains in the backdrop. The house has two beautiful big porches that overlook the lake and the property with plenty of chairs and areas to play cards or have breakfast together while enjoying the cool mountain air and the Vistas. The kitchen was well equipped with the dishware we needed, and we were able to prepare most of our meals right at the house. Shady Rest is just a short drive from several hiking areas and waterfalls as well. Steve and Rosie were easy to reach by phone if we had any questions Would definitely visit this lovely place again !!

Best Value on Lake Toxaway!!

Steve and Rosie were great! Very easy to talk too and eager to make our stay enjoyable. We were two families with 4 adults and 4 kids and had plenty of room. Amazing views from the back porch of the lake! Having access to a boat was a very welcome bonus and we lived tubing with the kids and cruising the lake looking at all the beautiful homes. For those looking to do some work/virtual school the WiFi Speedtest on my phone had 313 Mbps!! Only problem is the house is booked solid so if you are lucky enough to see an open date - you should jump on it!

Wonderful!

This was our first trip to the North Carolina Mtns. It was beautiful. We had a quiet and relaxing stay at the wonderful Shady Rest home. We traveled with 8 people and had no problem with space. The home is very well appointed. In fact, we have rented upwards of 30 VRBO homes all over the southeast and none of them was better appointed than this home...in particular the kitchen. The boats that came with the property worked great with no issues. We considered renting again during Summer Break, but the home is all booked up. I now know why........8 thumbs up from our group!

Exceptional Stay

We stayed at Steve and Rosie's beautiful lake home the third week in April. Even though the weather was not ideal for much of our stay, the vacation home certainly was. The beds were comfortable, the view spectacular and, little details like the birds occasionally visiting the feeders on the porch were really nice touches. Even though I had hoped for the pontoon boat, it was in for repairs, but as promised, we had access to the Four Winns motor boat. We were able to take it out a couple of times (between rain showers). In the area, we visited several waterfalls, hiked, fished, had lunch at the Pisgah Inn, etc. By the way, the pictures on the VRBO site are accurate and representative of what to expect. All in all an excellent time at this lovely lakefront home.

Shady Rest - Lake Toxaway

Five years between visits is too long! We stayed at Shady Rest in 07/18 and again recently. The home is very well maintained and there were many updates from our last visit. With six adults, a 10 yo and a 13 yo, there was plenty of room to spread out. The home includes all the creature comforts, including Wifi and new streaming tv's, a well-stocked kitchen, and a deck boat. Yes, a boat! Water-skiing and tubing were a part of our daily activities, as well as cruising the shoreline and enjoying the charm of Lake Toxaway. Steve and Rosie are terrific hosts and wonderful at responding to any inquiries/issues immediately. It is our sincere desire to get back there as often as we are able! Patty and Ron H.

Beautiful lakefront

The home is located on beautiful Lake Toxaway, which we considered the best feature of the property. Use of pontoon boat was a nice amenity. Many rooms and beds to suit a large group. Gas fireplaces and TV's were very nice on both levels of the home. Kitchen well-stocked for preparing meals. Lovely firepit in backyard. Driveway was rather difficult to locate at first, could be marked better. Stairs, both indoors and outdoors, were very steep or slippery. Musty, damp odor throughout the first level of the home. Lake Toxaway location was centrally located to Highlands, Cashiers, Brevard and even Asheville. Host was very responsive to communication.
