About this property
Private Island on Lake Muskoka! Cottage+guest house+bunkie! Sunsets!
THEOBALD ISLAND
AREA
Have this whole island to yourself in South Bay of Lake Muskoka! Theobald Island is located halfway between Gravenhurst and Bracebridge. Several marinas can be utilized in under 10-minute boat drives, two being Pride of Muskoka and Campbell’s Landing. Gravenhurst Wharf is 5 minutes by boat through ‘The Narrows’ and offers a number of restaurants and shops.
PROPERTY
THEOBALD ISLAND - Guests will encounter a beautiful olde Muskoka winding pine needle path from the boathouse to the front of the island. This approximate 50m pathway meanders past the bunkie and guest cabin and includes a couple of sets of broad granite steps. While the guests continue their way to the main cottage on this naturalistic terrain nestled among the trees, they will be met with stunning water views. The main living areas are located on the west end of the island. This benefits from the prevailing breeze which almost always keeps the area clear of insects permitting outdoor sitting, relaxing, and eating all day long. With 3.5 acres of land, this island has it all- there won’t be a shortage of privacy, nature, and adventure! The island offers multiple accesses to the water, including a fun jump right off the front, to a rock slope into a sheltered bay or diving off the dock. A swim around the island is a 700m fitness challenge!
The property is accessed by a large, well-protected boathouse with 2 slips available for guest use. On the lower deck, there are 4 Muskoka chairs, a bar area with a passthrough window to the decking, a diving board, and a dock ladder for easy access in and out of the water. There is also an outdoor shower. The upper deck features a hot tub and sitting area with various seating arrangements. The perfect star-laden sky can be viewed in the evening from the hot tub! The main cottage has water views out three sides and decking on the south/east and west. A six-seat table on the south deck is perfect for sunrise breakfasts while the five-seat table on the west creates amazing sunset dinner opportunities. The south/east decking area has a mechanical awning and charcoal and gas BBQ.
The guest cottage has stunning water views from both bedrooms as well as a quiet, covered deck. The water gently laps against the shore at night. A small intimate bunkie is located closer to the boathouse and has a small porch with a rocking chair. A stone lookout is built into the north side of the island providing a serene sitting area with two cedar Muskoka chairs. Perfect for morning coffee and afternoon tea.

About the host
Hosted by Jayne McCaw

Jayne McCaw, has been involved in luxury cottage rentals in Muskoka for the last 5 years and recently launched Jayne's Cottages in 2014.
A message from Jayne, Owner of Jayne's Cottages:
As a child, I grew up with the sandy beach of Lake Huron in my backyard. I went to university and settled in Toronto with my family and made my living selling computer software. I starting visiting Muskoka in the summertime and fell in love with the peacefulness and natural beauty of the surroundings. Shortly thereafter we bought a cottage, which was quite an investment, but my family has never regretted it!
Working full time however only allowed my family a 2 week vacation, so we all agreed that we would rent to cover our property expenses and to afford to take exotic family trips overseas. Renting our cottage has allowed my family to experience other special places, like Provence and Tuscany.
Despite the alarming storms that can rush in, Muskoka has a certain “joie de vivre” about it. Blue skies, gorgeous lakes, quaint villages and sunshine nearly everyday certainly helps keep a smile on everyone’s face. Over our years in Muskoka, I have met charming people who have also fallen in love with this magical part of Ontario and who have purchased beautiful cottage properties that they visit frequently. While they are away from Muskoka, I take excellent care of their homes and host their visitors who come from all over the world to enjoy this beautifully scenic Canadian location that is especially close to my heart.
My goal with Jayne’s Cottages is to help both the cottage owner and our vacationing guests make the most of their Muskoka experience. I would love to help you too! Please be in touch!
