About this property

Historic Treme Luxury - Walk to French Quarter - Gated Parking

Get ready to hit the ground like a local when you step out the door of our historic home, in the exciting Treme neighborhood! If you have seen the HBO show "Treme" you'll know how beautiful and vibrant this neighborhood is -- full of stunning architecture, music and great food. We are 2 blocks away from Kermit Ruffins' Mother In Law Lounge and the Treme Hideaway (owned by a member of the Rebirth Brass Band) - and both clubs have music nightly. We're also about 4 blocks from the famed Frenchmen Street, which is lined with music clubs of all kinds. Great restaurants are a short stroll away and you can easily walk to the French Quarter (15 minute walk) or to the Jazz Fest Fairgrounds, (or you can self-rent one of those Blue Bikes a half a block from our house). If you want to head uptown to the Garden District you can take the historic streetcar (those cute "Trolley's you see in all Nola ads), which is 6 blocks away, or take a 10-minute Uber/Lyft ride.

But as close as you are to everything, our house is tranquil and quiet so you can get a great night's sleep on our extremely comfortable beds with 1,000-thread count sheets and luxury comforters.

Our home was built in 1866 and furnished with antiques so you feel like you're experiencing old New Orleans, but was recently completely renovated with all of the comforts and amenities of a modern home, including central heat and air, instant hot water and screaming fast Wi-Fi. (You'll just feel like you've stepped back in time).

This listing is for one or two bedrooms (you may rent it as either a 1-bedroom or a 2-bedroom and pricing is commensurate.); The primary suite has an ensuite bathroom (with clawfoot tub and rain shower). The king-sized canopy bed has opulent linens and netting to make you feel like the belle of the ball. There is also a private seating area and a large desk, which is fully stocked with office supplies, and the back door opens up to a private deck and yard. The second bedroom, with a Queen-sized bed, also outfitted with 1,000 thread-count sheets and luxury bedding, has a vanity table and fainting couch for your Southern belle moments. Both bedrooms have ample wooden hangers. A second guest bathroom with deep tub and shower is right across the hall. In both bathrooms we supply all kinds of amenities like shampoo, conditioner and body wash, but also contact solution, sun screen, toothpaste, blow dryers, flat irons, hair spray, Q-tips, makeup remover wipes, face wash, etc. There are plenty of fluffy 100% Egyptian cotton towels.

The fully outfitted kitchen has everything you'll need to make a complete gourmet dinner if you so choose. We have staples like spices, oil and vinegar, an array of condiments and all of the gadgets you could ask for, like a coffee bean grinder, Cuisinart coffee maker, popcorn maker, Magic Bullet blender, Toaster, Electric Kettle, etc. We provide varietal-correct Riedel stemware, hand-painted plates from France, and Cuisinart pots and pans. But since we're walking distance to some of the best restaurants in America, you might not ever touch the kitchen -- it's your vacation! We supply great coffee (Regular, Decaf and Coffee with Chicory) and half n' half and multiple types of sweetener, so maybe you just sip coffee in the sunny backyard before heading out to make some Nola memories.

The great room/living room has soaring cathedral ceilings with skylights, and those beams you see are the original beams from the attic (which has been opened up) circa 1866. For those relaxing times we've got a flat screen TV in the living room ALL of the streaming channels for free (Netflix, HBO-Max, Apple+, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Starz, Showtime, Paramount+, Peacock. Also an assortment of games and books.

We have a private, free, gated and locked carport for one car, and plenty of free street parking as well.

Once you book we'll send you all kinds of recommendations for places to eat and drink and fun things to do like antiquing, parades and second lines, swamp tours, massage and spa services, cooking classes, craft cocktail bars and dive bars, museums, history or ghost-themed walking tours, seances, tarot card readers -- whatever you're looking for!

About the host

My husband, Andrew, and I would love to welcome you to our historic home in the Treme neighborhood of exciting New Orleans, which is walking distance to the French Quarter (www.kerlereckottage.com). When we're not sharing insider's tips with our guests about the best restaurants and the most delicious cocktail bars, we are out scouting new ones! I am in the legal services industry (which means I have lunch with lawyers for a living) and Andrew is a "recovering chef" who now owns a wine shop (www.valleywinemerchants.com).

Why they chose this property

We are easy walking distance to the French Quarter (15 minutes) Frenchmen Street (15 minutes) and Jazz Fest (15 minutes). Also a 15 minute walk to many wedding venues and mansions on Esplanade Avenue such as The Degas House, Melrose Manson, The Benachi House. We are a fun and easy bike ride from the Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods as well as the Superdome. (There is a self-rent bike station 1/2 block from our house).

We are in the historic Treme neighborhood (or Faubourg Treme) which is the birthplace of Jazz and the neighborhood established by "Free People of Color" and former enslaved people in 1841. According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune:

"The neighborhood, which is viewed by many as ground zero of New Orleans culture, seems to be on an upswing as people have fallen in love with the area's diverse architecture and culture. Located at the epicenter of New Orleans culture, the neighborhood is the birthplace of artists such as Kermit Ruffins, Shannon Powell, Louis Prima, Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews, Danny Barker, the Marsalis family (father, Ellis and sons, Wynton and Branford, to name a few), Irvin Mayfield and Alex Chilton, and the former homes of Louis Armstrong and Fats Domino." (Kermit Ruffins and Irvin Mayfield still live 2 blocks from us).

Just going for a stroll in our neighborhood turns into a historic tour as you pass beautiful architecture and places of cultural significance. We are steps from Kermit Ruffins' Treme Mother-In-Law Lounge Jazz Club and the Treme Hideaway, which is owned by members of The Rebirth Brass Band and has something exciting going on most nights - from Mardi Gras Indian rehearsals that you can watch, to barbecues and crawfish boils and, always, MUSIC. We are blocks away from the Backstreet Cultural Museum, which houses permanent exhibits on the Mardi Gras Indians, Jazz Funerals and other uniquely Treme-centered history, and the New Orleans Jazz Museum. The Mahalia Jackson Theatre is a short walk.

What makes this property unique

This listing is for two bedrooms, consisting of one huge luxurious master suite with separate desk and seating area with a King-sized canopy bed and a spectacular master bath with a deep claw foot tub and separate rain shower. The second bedroom is lovely as well, with a queen-sized bed. (You can rent it as a 1 or 2 bedroom and pricing is commensurate). Each bedroom comes equipped with fluffy towels and two luxurious bathrobes and slippers, hair dryer and all kinds of luxury toiletries. The second bedroom has a non-working fireplace, lounge chair with ottoman and a vanity table with mirror.

The living room has soaring cathedral ceilings with skylights and is decorated with upscale comfortable furniture, including a "fainting couch" for your Southern Belle moments, as well as a flat screen Smart-TV, board games, Bluetooth sound system and plenty of nooks for reading and relaxing.

The kitchen is brand new with upscale appliances, including a microwave and convection oven, silent dishwasher, side-by-side fridge with water and ice station. The kitchen comes fully appointed with gourmet pots, hand-painted antique china from France, really good, sharp knives, fantastic Cuisinart coffee maker and Braun coffee bean grinder (we take our coffee very seriously and provide whole bean regular and decaf as well as coffee/chicory mix for the old New Orleans taste). We provide varietal-correct Riedel stemware, coupe champagne glasses, high ball glasses, etc. It is truly a cook's paradise.

The backyard is fully fenced with a deck and comfortable lounge furniture and provides private spots to relax, sip a cocktail or take a nap in the sunshine.

You're welcome to use the full laundry room with oversize load capacity and all of the laundry products (but you won't be stripping beds or washing any linens - this is for your own private use).
