It doesn't get more classically Maine than this thoughtfully renovated 19th-century farmhouse with 270 feet of tidal shorefront on an inlet of Penobscot Bay. Built in the 1880s and lovingly remodeled in recent years, this home maintains its original charm in its beautiful wood plank floors, exposed ceiling beams, and inviting country kitchen, yet it has also been updated with such modern amenities as free WiFi and a flatscreen TV with cable service.

Here on the edge of the tidal Bagaduce River, you'll spend your days exploring the serene beauty of the Blue Hill Peninsula, taking easy day trips to Acadia National Park and Deer Isle, and coming home to a private deck, a stone firepit for evening s'mores and stories, and a gorgeous stretch of private, west-facing shoreline where you can take in unforgettable sunsets. A private gas grill is perfect for summertime cookouts.

What's nearby:
This three-bedroom farmhouse enjoys a wonderful location in the village of Penobscot on the Blue Hill Peninsula, off the beaten path yet an easy drive from the neighboring towns of Blue Hill (eight miles southeast) and Castine (10 miles southwest). You'll be able to walk to the local country store for any necessities you may require, and you'll have 270 feet of west-facing waterfront on the banks of the tidal Bagaduce River (an inlet of greater Penobscot Bay). The natural splendor of Maine is all around you, whether you choose to drive 20 miles south to Deer Isle and Stonington, the lobstering capital of Maine, or head 40 miles east to charming Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, glimpsing such iconic landmarks as the Ocean Path and the summit of Cadillac Mountain while you're there.

Great House!

The listing was accurate, and the house is very comfortable. I really appreciated how well stocked it was, and this was one of the few times we rented a place and did not need to go out to replenish basic household supplies. My favorite part of the trip was sitting around a camp fire by the bay. So beautiful!

Nice house in the country

We stayed at the farmhouse for a four day family hiking trip. It was clean, with a well stocked kitchen and nice quality, yet comfortable furniture. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were comfortable. The only downside was the light coming in the windows at 5am due to very shear or no curtains. We really enjoyed watching the sunset at the far end of the property near the water. It was very quiet and peaceful. We used the grill once, and it was in good condition. A nice touch was that the owners provided a very helpful notebook full of maps and restaurant suggestions. We enjoyed our stay!

Visiting for the Eclipse

This place was perfect for our weeklong stay in scenic Downeast Maine. We came to watch the 2024 eclipse, but wanted to spend the rest of the week exploring, and this location in Penobscot provided the perfect launching pad for those explorations.

Lovely restored farmhouse

We had a great three night stay. The house is well equipped and comfortable. The main road is busy, but the backyard is private and large. We were able to take advantage of the picnic area with fire pit, which is at the end of a woodsy path. Acadia is a bit of a drive, but there are are also plenty of things to do closer by. The beds are very comfortable. It would be nice to have night stands and reading lamps on both sides of the queen and king beds. I recommend this house for family getaways.

Perfect for a downeast Maine get-away

Home is off the beaten path and if you plan to do several trips to Bar Harbor / Acadia, it is a bit of a drive... however, if you are going to Castine, Acadia, Camden, etc, it is a great older home that has been shown lots of extra care and attention. Everything you need for a stay, and plenty comfortable. We even got to see a fox and a large cat (bob-cat maybe), out and around the property.

lake/riverfront would be more accurate

The house is well decorated and clean. It is a preserved historical artifact. It is about 45 min away from Acadia. This is not a beach, there is no sand. There is mud and bugs. bring insect repellant. not as many amenities for babies, but great for kids and toddlers, just be careful with where they walk. very quiet solitude, nice grill and backyard, great for a family gathering. but far from stores/shopping.

Farmhouse on the Cove June 2022

The house was beautifully restored and maintained. The Bagaduce River access at the bottom of the property was a lovely peaceful spot. The Blue Hill peninsula was a great alternative to Mt Desert Island with no lines at activities, plenty of places to walk and park and see the seashore.

Superb location and room to roam

The farmhouse is not luxurious but has simply everything you could want, plus the backyard is spacious, not to mention its own little trail to its own little waterfront with a separate A-frame, camp chairs, chopped wood, and fire ring! we LOOOOOVED this place and will want to come back. thanks for a great stay.

Beautiful home away from home

Clean, comfortable and welcoming. This property is top notch, well prepared and cared for. Close enough to Acadia and Bar Harbor, but far enough away that you stay out of the crowds. Close proximity to Stonington, Belfast, and other real gems. A must stay.

Serenity, Hiking, and charm at Farmhouse on the Cove

The charming 1880 farmhouse was the perfect home base for exploring this beautiful part of Maine. The house was roomy, clean and comfortable. It was decorated with beautiful art and maps of the area. The beds were comfy and there are room A/C ,s for thé few hot days we had. The house stays very comfortable all day long. We loved walking down to the waterfront for sunsets and to watch birds. It is so peaceful. It is about 30-40 min to drive to the Schoodic Peninsula and Acadia , and close to many hikes and fishing villages.the house has a lot of hiking info and activity suggestions as well as dining options. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful part of Maine!
