About this property

Town's End, a Private Estate with Mountain Views

* We now have a wood fire hot tub, available all year round. We have also added enhancements to the master bedroom and en suite bathroom. The middle upstairs bedroom now features a queen bed instead of a double plus a small working space with a desk. *

Welcome to Town's End, a retreat for nature lovers! Named after my father, Townsend, this custom built 3,200 sf home is at the end of a private drive with mountains on one side, fields on the other, and woods behind.

This large and private estate boasts 6 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 living rooms, 1 family room with games and large screen TV, fully equipped kitchen, laundry room, 2 car garage and large gravel driveway for multiple cars, patio with outdoor dining, double hammock between 2 apple trees, seating around the Solo Stove by the garden, music room with piano, children's room with play loft, and a formal dining room with vintage chandelier.

Enjoy the tranquility of our 260 acre property situated between The Green Mountain and White Mountain National Forests. Town’s End will provide you with vast, open spaces indoors and out, immersing you in a true nature’s paradise. Perfect for family gatherings. (Please note: This is a quiet retreat, no parties.)

Town's End is surrounded by over 200 private acres of untouched fields and woods. The house sits at the top of a hill, at the end of a private, well maintained, dirt and gravel road. There are a few neighbors dispersed along the the road but all you can hear from the property are birds and the owls calling to each other at night.

You will enjoy the many comforts of this spacious and modern home, custom built for our family as a summer retreat. A few South Asian items and furniture from my father's travels contrast the bright white walls and wooden beams. High speed fiberoptic internet is provided for your convenience.

Town's End is ideal for family reunions. There are 6 bedrooms (plus a couch in one of the living rooms which can convert to a bed) including the newer addition of the master bedroom which is located in a separate wing of the house. The 6th bedroom is up a flight of stairs on the other side of the house and is located in the spacious office for those seeking more privacy. Each comfortable and bright bedroom looks out on to a different majestic view of pristine nature.

Sipping coffee in our well - equipped kitchen while watching the sun rise over the mountains, you may spy a grouse, deer, or a family of wild turkeys meandering through our property. You can walk straight our back door for a peaceful stroll around the rolling hills or on trails through the woods.

The outdoor space is stunning and vast, with outdoor dining on the patio (with a newly purchased large grill) and seating near the garden. There is a fire pit / Solo Stove where you can roast marshmallows while gazing at the bright stars at night. Wood, paper, matches, and lighters for the Solo Stove can be found in the garage.

- Please note: no loud music on our property, ever. No parties, no events. Quiet hours are: 10 pm to 9 am. No trespassing our neighbors’ property.
- For the months December through April, 4WD/AWD is a necessity. We privately employ plowing, sanding, and road maintenance services during winter.
- Town's End is magical during our snowiest season. Not far from ski resorts such as Saskadena Six (35 mins), Killington and Pico Mountain (about an hour). You can also cross country ski right on our property! We also provide toboggans, sleds, and 4 pairs of snowshoes in various sizes.
- We allow up to 2 dogs. Sorry, we cannot accept cats or any other type of animals. For your safety and their's, dogs must be vaccinated and on current flea/tick medication. We charge a fine of $700.00 if fleas are found in the house post your stay.
- Please inquire about horseback riding and horse boarding services close tour property.

Mountain Getaway

This stay was an amazing winter getaway. You will definitely need 4 wheel or all wheel drive as this is hidden deep in the woods. Everyone loved the multiple sledding hills and the vast property. We particularly enjoyed using the provided snow shoes and toboggan. The house has lots of room for larger groups and is quite cozy. The antique decor is amazing and the various photos/books throughout get you invested in the family history and story of Townsend. India is very receptive and gets back to you right away if you have any questions or concerns.

Home away from home

We absolutely loved staying at Town's End! This house exudes history and family - old books, a piano, a telescope, apple trees, ample linens/blankets, toiletries, dog supplies, a hammock.... We had everything we needed for cooking, grilling, hosting local family and beloved canine friends. The surrounding garden is beautiful, and hiking from the house was so fun. Well located for easy exploration of nearby villages and hiking. Perhaps some may prefer an updated/modern accommodation, but for us, the experience of being in a family "home" made it so special. We will definitely be back!

Stay at Town's End

My family and I stayed at Town's End for a wedding and it was a great space for us. India answered all of my questions and was helpful in planning for my 92 year old mother's comfort. My husband and I walked each morning and enjoyed the scenery near the house. It is on dirt roads and reception for cell phones does not always work. I did not have a problem with this but some of my family members did. I thought it was very beautiful and the dirt roads gave a feeling of being far away. I appreciated the quick replies from India and recommend the house.

Vermont 2023

Beautiful area although a bit isolated. I found it relatively easy to go to one of the larger grocery stores nearby although the round trip was probably greater than 1 hour. The house had plenty of room for the 10 people of our party. Bedrooms and bathrooms were all good. my main concern was the step down from the dining room to the outside patio. There needs to be a formalized step rather than the large unstable rock that was there. Assuming there is a property manager who oversees cleaning etc. I would ask that they check the lighting as here were several lights that were not functioning. The middle support leg on the dining room table was loose and would angle sideways if kicked by someone sitting at the table. These are minor issues but do need to be addressed. Overall we were happy with the house and would use it again especially if we had a large party.

Lovely Getaway!

We had a fantastic stay at Town’s End. The house is so unique, with artwork and touches that are so appreciated. The beds are firm but comfortable, and there is so much space both inside and out. India is a fantastic communicator and we hope to come back some day!

Spectacular rural location and spacious, spotless house!

Husband and I stayed at this property for 4 nights and friends and family (a total of 10) came and went during that time. Everyone was impressed with the large, spacious house. Kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, dishes and utensils. 3 bathrooms had lots of towels and there were extra blankets and quilts in the closets. I communicated with the host, India, during the months from when we booked throughout our stay. I have never dealt with a more responsive, helpful host. She made sure we had precise directions to the property which was important. It is very rural, up in the hills of Tunbridge. As native Vermonters it was heaven on earth to us. Five vehicles came and went during our stay and all found the way without getting lost. Surprisingly, Waze worked off and on up in the hills. We also had very good Wi-Fi throughout the house even with the multiple devices we had connected. The outside property has beautiful grounds to explore, a fire pit, a picnic table and lawn chairs. Gorgeous views off to the west where we watched the sunset each night while sitting out on the lawn with everyone’s favorite snacks and beverages. We saw deer, turkeys, heard owls hooting and enjoyed the serenity of this property. Thank you, India!

Great secluded getaway

Owner was great with communications. We only stayed a short time. House layout worked great for us. Supplies especially for the kitchen and cleaning were great. Wish we had more time to spend on this quiet property but we got a bonfire in and the house accommodated our group of 8 or 9 really well. Really relaxing stay and exactly what we thought we signed up for.

Our Vermont Stay

Town's End home is a beautiful home with spectacular views for miles. The interesting multi level house is indeed at the end of a long country road. It was just what we needed, a very private refuge with lots of quiet. The kitchen was very well equipped and we put it use and the dining area was comfortable for a meal as well as to hang out and discuss our plans for each day. Also on the first floor are a large living room, bedroom and bath, then up a half flight of stairs the master bedroom with private bath, and up another half flight are three small bedrooms, one set up also as a little library, plus a large office space and another bathroom. The yard is large and nicely landscaped, including a stone deck off the dining room, and picnic table with a fire pit on the large front lawn. We thank India and her family for making this amazing place available.

Nice getaway for both humans and K9

A Naturalists delight! Great foraging location and safe for dogs to run off lead. Because we were not familiar with the mountain we purchased GPS trackers and attached to dog collars. Obvious black bear in the area (saw one plus many recent droppings up hill behind house). Mattresses are firm. Recommend foam topper if you require some cushion. Owner was easy to contact. She supplied us with a list of local grocery stores and recommends shopping ahead of time. I fully agree. Shopping is a 20-30 minute drive. Also, good idea to download map when relying on GPS as cell service is spotty.

Just as described!

India thought of everything when it comes to a well stocked house! Coffee to spices and paper towels etc! Plenty of room for everyone. Lovely house in the woods of Vermont. The grounds were well cared for with seating in the back and a firepit area in the front. Well equipped kitchen and nice dinning room table to fit a bunch. Wonderful communication from India. This is Vermont....so shop for your groceries before you go there. Looking forward to our next opportunity to rent this lovely home.

Wonderful spacious retreat for family group

We're a family group of three adults and two teenagers who spent two weeks in this lovely, quiet house in July 2021. It's BIG -- during our stay the loft, basement and a storage room or two were locked or off-limits, and even so we had very ample room to spread out and enjoy ourselves, and even to host an overnight guest in the "secret" fifth bedroom. As in all vacation houses the kitchen was stocked with many useful implements while lacking a few others; still, we cooked all manner of food and enjoyed eating both indoors and out. One special feature is the "music room," a part of the central large open area that's equipped with the richest-sounding upright piano ever; one of us is a gifted piano player, and the acoustics are dazzlingly good. Interactions with the owner were smooth and prompt. There are some quirks to the house, like the instructions to freeze one's compost: over two weeks we completely filled up the freezer that way. We also had a couple of very minor mechanical issues come up (chirping smoke alarms, battery replacements) that we just chose to address ourselves rather than waiting for the uncertain prospect of handyman help. The house really is rather remote. We also never got the satellite TV to work for us, but then we hadn't come to Vermont to watch TV! Wireless Internet was good, though awkwardly the lovely office room on the second floor is located farthest from the router and occasionally struggled with data-intensive tasks like video calls. But the rest of the house has a consistant signal. Endless walking trails lead in all directions from the house and from nearby dirt roads; there's an intriguing garden of sorts; and just generally so much individual character to the house. We loved the unusual family book collection with a number of rather unusual children's books from 70-100 years ago. all in all: Highly recommended.

Ideal family vacation house

Our family has just completed a delightful 10-day stay at Townsend. It was perfect for a big family reunion, after the isolation of Covid. This beautiful house is large, (5 bedrooms plus a pull-out couch, 3 bathrooms), immaculate, comfortable, and extremely well-stocked with supplies. There were several linen closets filled with towels and sheets, pantries with paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies and tools. The kitchen cabinets held dishes and silverware for 16, all sizes of pots, pans, mixing bowls, cooking utensils, as well as spices, sugar, and cooking oil, among other staples. The large refrigerator/freezer was more than adequate, and the new washer/dryer did an excellent job of laundering clothes and linens. Multiple drawers contained scissors, tape, pencils, sticky note pads, and other miscellaneous supplies that our grandchildren put to good use. There was a closet with jackets and umbrellas for guest use. The garage had portable lawn chairs and water “noodles” to use for swimming. The indoor dining table could seat as many as 10 people, and there were assorted outdoor picnic tables along with a fire pit. There were extensive well-mowed grounds where the children played, and hiking paths in the woods. It was a pleasure to deal with the owner, India. She was pleasant, helpful, and immediately responsive to any communications. We would highly recommend this house, and would welcome the opportunity to stay there again.

About the host

Growing up in Washington, DC, I spent many summers in gorgeous Vermont. Being able to escape to the lovely mountains, tranquil fields and lush woods of our country home was vital to me and my family. Town's End has always been such a special, unique, and magical place, unspoiled and nurturing to the city dweller. I wanted to share this gem with you.

Why they chose this property

Town's End is located in a gorgeous and friendly Vermont town, where people value a healthy lifestyle and are supportive of small businesses like local organic farms. Especially within the past 5 years or so, the town and neighborhood has had an influx of people who wanted to escape places such as NYC and contribute to the town in unique and refreshing ways. Our property is on a private road named after our family. We bought the acreage in the 1970's after other relatives had moved to escape the chaos of city life. The neighborhood is comprised of a few houses connected by well maintained dirt roads that are essentially scenic walking trails.

What makes this property unique

Being surrounded by unspoiled nature, while staying in a very spacious house that provides you with everything you need, will rejuvenate your spirit. In terms of the house's aesthetic, I wanted to combine the simplicity of nature with the rich and sophisticated history of our family's travels. I am assured you will find peace here, and feel invigorated by the spectacular setting,
