What was not to love about this place? From comfortable beds, to great location (close to hiking, beaches, cool independent stores), to the awesome antiques throughout the house, to the amazing art on the walls. It was a wonderful place to hang out with friends. I felt like I was staying in a historic museum.
Lovely old house with interesting art and antiques. Lovely location with a beautiful patio garden. The house had everything we needed for 9 people. Cozy sitting rooms. Very responsive owner.
This is one of the most beautiful homes I have stayed in! I wanted to stay longer. Beauty inside and out. Karen was amazing. We will definitely be back! ♥️ Thank you!
Our family had such a wonderful stay at the Duncan House celebrating my parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary. We were all impressed by how beautiful and historic the home was. The kitchen had everything we needed and there was plenty of space for everyone to both gather and spread out. We enjoyed the views, the hot tub, the nearby river and ocean, and spending time among big trees. Our host was excellent as well with great communication. And how awesome that we could bring our dog too! 10/10 would stay again!
We were attending a family reunion at the Casini Ranch campground. My wife and I and some other family members prefer to camp in something nicer than a tent. This place was absolutely perfect for us. We were able to use the hot tub and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and it was close to our reunion. We went down to Shell beach, Gold coast Coffee and walked downtown while there. Very quaint and comfortable. Would definitely stay again if in the neighborhood.
I have stayed at a lot of vacation rentals and the Duncan House exceeded expectations on every level. The kitchen and bathrooms were stocked with all necessities. All the beds were comfortable and cozy. The entire home from floor to ceiling is beautifully furnished and decorated. The grounds are immaculate. Every square inch of the property has been lovingly cared for.
I look forward to coming back!
This house is amazing. The historic nature of the home made us think of all that has happened in this area and the people who have lived here. The house is so comfortable with many extras. Each bedroom and bath is beautifully appointed. They've really tried to think of everything a guest might need. We even got to enjoy breakfast while watching the cattle grazing in the meadow next door. Easy access to the shops and bakery at Duncan's Mills was a plus and also the short drive to the coast. We'd love to come again!
Great location, beautiful property, lots of unique details. The furniture, lamps and artwork are really fun to discover throughout your stay. The whole family really enjoyed our time at the house. Plenty of room for 8 people. Everyone slept great in the beds!
Local girls getaway. I had never even heard of Duncan's Mills and it is lovely. Beautiful in itself and close to beautiful things. The house was so much fun. Lovingly restored, super comfortable, aesthetically fantastic. Good instructions book, which is always super appreciated. We did have reason to call the owner once about hot water in one of the bathrooms and she couldn't have responded any quicker. It wouldn't have been a big deal as there are two bathrooms, but one of our guests had recent knee surgery and was trying to avoid stairs. All in all, it really is a fun place to stay. Not everyday you get to live in a true and beautiful victorian.
This historic home is in a wonderful location to access both the Russian River Valley and the coast. Walk to charming Duncan Mills or a short drive to Guerneville or Jenner.
This place is fantastic! We stayed a weekend with 3 couples and 3 kids. The house is so beautiful and well appointed. Hot tub was clean. Beds were comfy. So easy to walk into Duncans Mills for a glass of wine. We will certainly return for a getaway weekend with friends. Thank you Karen!
The Duncan House could not have been more perfect for our family. The location is great, and is just a short walk to the cute village of Duncans Mills. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need (and about 6 ways to make coffee!). The beds are extremely comfortable and the bathrooms are roomy. We enjoyed the outdoors and spent most of our time on the deck. In fact, we ended up just staying at the house most of the time rather than venturing out. An added plus was hearing the great music being played at the rodeo grounds.
This is a truly exceptional, historic place to stay. Each room is special with art and antiques. The grounds and views are stunning. Extremely well stocked kitchen with all the items you need for making home cooked meals.
Can't recommend highly enough.
I booked this so we (2 adults, a 21 year old, and 14) could get near the coast - even in the winter- from living near Sacramento. We could bring our dog which was important to us. Plenty of bedroom and sitting space, good kitchen , hot tub and a lot of character made this a great place. Yes , as other reviews state, Internet is weak, so not a heavy work from home, or stream place or a place to watch live TV- it won’t happen. If you need that , don't book here. House floors are cold so bring house slippers. Rooms have good hvac systems. It’s over 150 years old and better than many places 30 years old. Upper master is quant and great with many amenities. if your under 5’10, you will love it. I am 6’4” so I struggled in bathroom and hit my head a few times walking around. I like having a bathroom suite so I chose that over headroom :). Town is nice. Great little country store. Went to goat beach which was amazing.
We will return.
We loved everything about out 3-night stay in this lovely, historic Duncans Mills home! We hiked, we kayaked, we explored the Russian River roadways, and the charming shopping village. This 1880's home was the perfect spot for our two families (with teen boys): wi-fi worked great, kitchen was beyond well-appointed, and the parlor room was perfect for playing card games in front of a fire. We'll be back!
Stayed here with friends, their children and a set of dogs...it was perfect. Quiet house, lots of land and set back from the street. We all had places to be alone and also enjoyed the welcoming communal areas, especially the kitchen. Highly recommend!
We’ve stayed here two years in a row and hope to come back again and again. The owner, Karen, is very friendly and helpful, and the house itself is uniquely beautiful and had everything we needed for our week long stay. Within walking distance to the shops and restaurants of duncan mills and just a few minutes from jenner, occidental, northwood golf course, the river… our family loves this place.
We had a weekend away with girlfriends in Duncans Mills - the house was perfect. Everything about it felt inviting, the hot tub was a nice touch for the afternoon, the kitchen was well stocked, the location was secluded and yet close to things. Loved waking up to the sound of cows!
Incredibly charming house. Meticulously decorated in an antique style, well stocked kitchen (eg hand beater for baking, good knives, baking sheets, etc), beautiful bedrooms & bathrooms, good seating area for conversation & games. It’s a <5 min walk to the adorable, tiny town of Duncan Mills. Do bring warm clothes — the house is very chilly at night! Really lovely stay!
