About this property

Sunset on the Ottawa "Cottage"- shallow, silky sandy beach w/ 78-84 F warm water

Welcome to soft sand, groomed beach, warm water (temp 27deg C or 81.6 deg F June 8/21) and spectacular sunsets on the mighty Ottawa River. Step out of the front door unto the shallow entry beach! We recommend water shoes for the odd clam. Our 4 season cottage has 4 bedrooms and 2 pullout couches. The bedding and pillows are provided. It has 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen with dishwasher, fireplace, high speed internet, TV, Netflix, Roku, DVD player, fire pit (we supply the wood), a large screened in porch covering 2 sides of the house, and a washer and dryer. Two kayaks, 2 standup paddle boards, 2 canoes, a windsurfer, HUGE floating mat, multiple flutter boards, and 2 boogie boards are also included. We are located 12 minutes from Food Basics, Canadian Tire, Walmart, Home Depot, Tim Hortons, LCBO, and The Beer Store.

There are plenty of things to do in "the valley". World class kayaking is just 10 minutes up the river! Go zip lining at Logos Land Resort or try whitewater rafting or kayaking. On a slower day visit the Bonnechere caves in Eganville. Trails for hiking, biking and ATVing are only minutes away from our cottage.

We are also open in the winter months. Manicured trails are close by to cross-country ski, snowshoe or skate. The OFSC and OFATV trails are only minutes away. The ATV/snowmobile bridge to Quebec is 10 minutes away. We have plenty of room to park your snowmobile/ATV trailers and ride the trails.

We have everything you need for an amazing holiday!

Beautiful Sunsets

The kids and our dogs loved playing in the warm shallow water. Also loved going rafting nearby and that the town was close by…all in all a great family getaway.

Well-appointed family cottage

We stayed for two weeks at this comfortable and well-stocked cottage. Kevin and Laurie were great hosts who provided support and information while giving us privacy and respect. The cottage is located in a row of other vacation homes - the beach is shared. Usually everyone was respectful, but there were instances of loud "dune buggies" racing up and down the full length of the beach. Otherwise it is was a peaceful and pleasant experience.

Nice New Year 2022

I loved the quiet and peaceful location with the iced river shore where we walked and played with my dog. He loved the place I can tell for his smile. The sunset and fires were a nice warm hug for this challenges times where being around with your family and nature gave us exactly what we needed...

Wonderful weekend vacation

We stayed for 3 nights in October. Communicating with our host was easy and we had prompt responses both before we left and during our stay. The cottage was very clean with many bedrooms for privacy and relaxation. Open concept living room and kitchen was perfect for our two families to cook and be together. The cottage is well equipped with kitchen supplies. The screened in porch was lovely at night for playing board games, and we had dinner on the porch one night. We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and going for walks. Plenty of couches, chairs and places to read, unwind and relax. Would book again.

Mostly as advertised

Note upstairs bathroom is sink and toilet, and downstairs bathroom is shower, sink and toilet. But privacy in shower and toilet is only via curtain from a passageway from L.R. to the downstairs bedrooms. A door would be much more appropriate.

Gorgeous summer sunsets

The cottage was a great set up for two families. The kitchen was very well stocked and we enjoyed BBQing. The hosts had a giant floating water mat that provided hours of fun. The water was the perfect depth for our youngest. Our oldest was wishing for deeper swimming water, but enjoyed the swimming mat a lot. I loved kayaking on the still water in the sunset. Having Pembroke nearby is very handy. We had a super time and a much needed gateway!

The Cottage Experience

Kevin and Laurie are new owners and amazing hosts of this property. They continue to update and upgrade this cottage which has lots of potential. We found that it had all of the comforts we needed, including excellent wifi for the teenagers! The beach is sandy, wide and shallow, water shoes are a must but the water is as warm as described. The kids loved the lilypad, kayak and SUP. The cottage also has a large fire pit which was perfect for family gatherings. The sunsets are beautiful and the stargazing is fantastic. Overall, we really enjoyed our week.

Great family getaway!

Our family of 5 (kids are 8, 10 and 15) had a great time at this cottage. Laurie and Kevin were perfect hosts - very quick to respond and react to all of our questions. The cottage has lots of space with a huge sectional coach in the living room that fit the whole family. The internet was very reliable which allowed for a few relaxing movie nights after a gorgeous sunset and a campfire. It was also very well stocked with kitchen tools, board games, puzzles and fire wood. The quiet, calm water is very shallow but perfect for water toys - paddle boards, kayaks, floating water mat, canoe...all tons of fun (we brought some toys and used what was supplied by the hosts). The space between the cottage and the waterfront was not really a 'beach' during our visit. It could have been from the unusually wet season but this area was more mud than beach. It didn't bother us, we just anchored the water mat to a buoy and used it as a floating dock with the water toys. It would not be ideal for families with toddlers but for those with kids who are past the sand castle stage it was great. Water shoes are strongly recommended due to clam shells. We were able to do many off site activities - Hugli's Blueberry Ranch, outdoor movie night in Pembroke, Bonnechere caves, Petawawa (all 15 to 40 minutes away) and Ottawa (1.5 hrs). Overall a great property and a wonderful family vacation. Thanks Laurie and Kevin!!

Beautiful place

Nice place, plenty of room, and some nice extras (games, water toys). The screened in porch is great. The owners are close by and helpful. We left after just a few days as our son was quite injured stepping on a mussel. Needed stitches, on crutches. It’s a long walk to get to where it’s deep enough to swim, and there are sharp mussels. If we had worn water shoes, it would’ve been a better holiday.

Great Family Getaway

Overall great stay! Laurie and Kevin are great hosts and have added a few extra touches to make sure the kids feel special and have a great time (books, games, lifejackets, etc...). Neighbours are friendly. Property is old but new to Laurie and Kevin and still requires a lot of work but they seem dedicated to getting it up to a higher standard. We were their first guests since purchasing the property. NOT recommended for those with pet allergies, particularly cats but otherwise cozy, comfortable and has all the basics for a great family getaway. Highlights of the trip: goose migration (quite literally hundreds/if not thousands of geese coming and going), day trip to Barron Canyon in Algonquin Park and playing in the mud! April was a great time to visit no bugs, bonfires and close enough to Pembroke for anything you may have missed. Great screened in porch. Thank you for letting us stay and get a change of scenery! : )

About the host

Hosted by Kevin & Laurie Bowman

Host profile image
Hi, we are Laurie and Kevin Bowman. I am a newly retired RN. I worked for 37 years in NICU in London Ontario and I so miss the babies! My husband, Kevin, worked as a professional event photographer, but now works part time blowing in spray foam insulation. We have 2 sons who are presently in college. We are "valley friendly" people and just want to make your holiday great!

Why they chose this property

This property is right on the BEACH! The water is shallow and warm with NO undertow to worry about, perfect for young families. The area is very QUIET. The cottage is on a private road so there is very little traffic. Also the water is between rapids upriver and downriver therefore next to no boat traffic. On a busy summer weekend there might be 8 people on the beach and you might see a pontoon boat go by! It's very peaceful. We supply the wood for the campfire and propane for the BBQ.

What makes this property unique

We have lots of toys! We have 2 standup paddle boards, 2 kayaks, 2 canoes, 2 boogie boards, a windsurfer, a HUGE floating mat and multiple floating boards. The cottage has games, puzzles and books for the whole family to enjoy.
