Beautiful Contemporary Modern River Retreat on 1.5 acres - surrounded by park land on the original San Antonio River & walking distance to the World Heritage Site San Antonio Mission San Jose.
Enjoy a unique getaway at this secluded and peaceful San Antonio property. Situated in the heart of the Mission district and on one and a half tree shaded acres, this contemporary show place has all of the amenities including three 65" TVs, two king, 1 queen & 1 single bed.
Relax by the full size swimming pool in the Texas sunshine under the shade of a giant 300 year old pecan tree (even in the winter as the pool is heated). Tour the World Heritage Site San Antonio Missions from the property by foot, bicycle or car and enjoy local restaurants at one of America's favorite vacation destinations.
The home is the architecturally designed "dream home" of a local real estate developer. We purchased the property in 2002. After extensive interior remodeling, Casa Mission Rio is now a modern showplace. We did extensive refurbishment in late 2019. Our son rented the property the past 2 years & it is now back on the market.
Many of our guests say they find the property so peaceful & enjoyable that they just stay "home" for much of their visit to San Antonio.
The property & Mission San Jose are 5 miles south of downtown & the Alamo. The area is called Southtown & is where the arts district is & many great new restaurants have been locating.

Easy drive to downtown sights and sounds. Everything you need is a short drive away. Highly recommend bicycles to take advantage of the excellent network of cycling trails at your doorstep. The house, pool and property are lovely and well maintained. Communication with Eric was easy and he responded quickly to any questions we had.
Our family of 7 stayed here for approximately 1 month while relocating to the San Antonio area. The house is located in the beautiful mission district and is private and secluded. Upon arrival, tge house was immaculate and I am very picky. The pool and game room provided lots of fun for our 3 teenage boys. Eric is a great communicator and was great to work with before, during and after our stay. We use VRBO properties 2 to 3 times per year and this was one of our best VRBO experiences ever. I highly recommend this beautiful house.
We arrived at the property late and Eric was very reachable throughout our stay. Since we checked in late, we weren't able to appreciate the property until the very next day. This was a pleasant stay in a very convenient location in S.A.! Everything we looked for was within a short driving distance including downtown which was, at times, 10 min away! The property is very well maintained. Eric and the groundskeeper Henry, made our stay wonderfully welcoming! We needed a place where we can stay for a month to get some work done, enjoy our family, get to know the city, and bring our doggo Blue. We loved the layout of the property as it is located in a very secluded and private road. Everything we needed to enjoy our stay was available such as, silverware, glasses, tp, washer & dryer, vacuum, mop, broom, gas grill, and so much more. We will definitely considering staying here again as it was exactly what we were looking for in a property and experience with everyone involved!
Rented the home after relocating to San Antonio and our house remodel was not completed yet. After staying in a hotel for a week, rented this property. Beautiful grounds and plenty of space for the dogs to run around. Beautifully landscaped and every one we met including groundskeeper and neighbors were very nice. Henry, the landscaper/maintenance man was very hospitable and always greeted us with a smile and was always willing to make sure we were ok. Host was very accommodating as well. Didn’t use the heated pool but, Would stay here again if the need arrives.
We stayed in this home from end of May through end of August. The owner has thought of so many special touches (like magnifying mirrors in all bathrooms, martini and wine glasses and other amenities). The artwork is a unique touch and was the inspiration for many dinner conversations. The home is located in the middle of the missions national historic district and on the Riverwalk. We enjoyed many many beautiful walks on the river and through the missions. This home is move in ready with everything you will need and the pool is such a treat! Many thanks to Eric and his staff for making our transition to Texas such a beautiful experience.
Beautiful home, fantastic art, sprawling grounds, fantastic pool. It is impossible not to relax as you listen to the birds and unwind poolside in this hidden gem, close to enough to everything but tucked away in a private oasis. The owners are a delight and the home was the perfect landing pad as we waited to finalize a sale and close escrow on a new house in the city. We stayed here for 7 weeks and it provides ample comfort for live and work needs. Best VRBO experience we've ever had.
We rented this home to get a change of scenery during the pandemic, and it was nothing short of amazing. The property is absolutely beautiful - serene, peaceful, and quiet, yet only a very short bike ride or walk away from the River Walk and San Jose Mission - and the other missions are easily accessible via bike on the River Walk. Our kids swam every day during our Nov/Dec stay in the heated pool, rode bikes, and played in the huge backyard next to the Old San Antonio River. We saw all kinds of birds including swans and an owl in the woods while sitting by the pool. We also ate fresh pecans from the pecan trees all over the property every day:) The owners were extremely responsive and helpful, and the house was immaculate and clean. The garage rec room and apartment were perfect for having a quiet place to work and call in to meetings. We usually are ready to go home by the end of a vacation, but not this time! We didn't want to leave. Highly, highly recommend!
This house is amazing! We spent a great summer by the pool and in the backyard. Would come again!
Casa Mission is a great property- perfect for working from home but also enjoying summer with the pool and backyard. The office and room in the garage/addition is great. The house was clean, the beds very comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook and bake. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for an oasis in San Antonio. Having close access to the river and the Mission bike trail was definitely a plus!

Charming and Private Retreat
My family and I just spent six days at this property. We loved it! The property is very private--it's at the end of a dead end street and you can't see any neighbors. The pool is large and surrounded by a paver patio; there is a small lanai-type area with a gas grill just off the kitchen and next to the pool. The contemporary-style house has four bedrooms including a beautiful master suite with a great master bathroom. One of the garage bays is a game room with a TV and a ping-pong table; there is also a small studio apartment attached to the garage. The property is close to the river walk/mission trail area (Mission San Jose is easily within walking distance). We walked along the river one day, went for an early morning run along the river another day, and kayaked the river on a third day! The property is less than six miles from the Alamo so it is easy to get to downtown. There is a washer/dryer and a dish washer, so it is easy to live in the house as if you are home. Overall, we loved our stay and greatly appreciate the owner for putting together such an enjoyable rental property. It's features and location are amazing.

Relaxing place to come home to!
We stayed in this wonderful home for 5 weeks while I had a temporary work project in San Antonio. I brought my wife and 2 adult daughters and a co-worker used the private suite located across from the carport.
The master suite was fantastic with a comfortable king sized bed, large walk in closet, separate toilet, large shower with many shower heads, deep soaking tub, double sinks, office desk, tv and large bright windows. My daughters enjoyed their decent sized rooms with desks. They had plenty of room in their shared double sink, separate toilet bathroom. The laundry room is large, plenty of room for folding. The washer and dryer were small apartment size, but worked well.
The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of dishes, etc..and has a blender and vegetable steamer. And it has large unique refrigerator/freezer drawers. We paid extra to heat the pool and it was well worth it in February.
The home is very bright with many large windows. The grounds are completely private and the neighbours are quiet. The neighbourhood is safe and lovely with homes with acreages. We bought a couple of bikes on Craigslist and donated them when we left. Due to our 5 week visit, this was much cheaper than renting from a bike shop or using the city's bike share program (which was a 15 minute walk away). The Bike trails on the river are excellent and the Missions were all under a 30 minute bike ride away.
The host was a great communicator and responded immediately to all of our questions or concerns.
The only negative to this location is the traffic noise from SE Military Drive. You can barely hear the noise when inside. But can be quite loud during evening rush hour by the pool. We rectified this by playing music or using headphones when lounging outside. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this home.

A perfect place for a family vacation.
There is so much to love about this vacation house. First off the location is great...close to downtown and everything you would need but felt so private as well. We used the pool everyday and the beds were very comfortable. Don't look any further if you want an awesome house in San Antonio. Eric was so great to deal with.

Fantastic
The house was in great shape and very clean. Don't be afraid to rent this one. Our family had a lot of fun and wonderful memory's staying in the house together. We would diffently stay here again if we were going to San Antonio. Eric was very attentive and called to make sure we found our way okay and see if we needed anything. Thanks Eric. The only change I would make is to put a privacy door on the master bedroom. Some people may like this but it wasn't for me.

A contemporary oasis on a large, unexpected, impeccable piece of property.
We loved our stay. The house is terrific, and the property couldn't be more impressive. Stunning lawn, plenty of shade so everyone can be outside all day long, and a great pool. It's only 15 minutes or so into downtown, which was incredibly convenient, and yet we felt as though we were someplace remote when we were at the house. I highly, highly recommend this property.

The perfect retreat!!
My family stayed at this home and we were very comfortable & secure. Everything was great the home was exactly as described! The home owner was very thorough in explaining how everything worked in the house instructions. We fully enjoyed the pool every day after visiting the sites in and around San Antonio. The home was perfect as a home base to day trip in the hill country then come back to the pool and house. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to visit San Antonio and/or the hill country.

The perfect house !
Casa Mission Rio is a magnificent property with everything that the traveler might need. We used it for business / pleasure purposes and the house was the ideal place to retreat after a busy day of work. The house is very spacious, equipt to meet all needs while furnitured and detailed with a warm contemporary touch. Because of the house layout, most of the rooms connect to the beautiful yard and pool area with easy access. The attention to details permiates throughout the entire property. The property grounds are highly manicured, where a beautiful pool, surrounded by an open lawn and a tree house are a few of the many amenities that can be enjoyed. The property is secluded enough to shield it from noise and neighbors, perfect for privacy and relaxation; while minutes away from neighboring historical Missions and the San Antonio downtown where there is plenty of action. The owners are beyond gracious and were so helpful throughout our stay. Casa Mission rocks!

Fantastic and memorable!
This is a beautiful property which we enjoyed for a month! Tucked away in a quiet little corner, you're 15 minutes away from downtown and a less than an hour away from any of the major theme parks. The main house has a very modern flair and great art work throughout the rooms. Appliances are well maintained and like new!
We mostly did a lot of hiking and other outdoor activities, as well as biked the river walk/trail and visited the Mission Trail (the San Jose mission is a 15 minute walk away!). After being out for most of the day, it was a pleasure to get back to the house and take a dip in the pool and BBQ! On the few days when we felt lazy, we'd set up in the game room and watch movies and play table tennis. We had an awesome 4th of July here!
The back yard is large enough to camp out, if you want, and the tree fort is a kid's dream -come-true. We had a few lunches up there among the gently rustling branches of the majestic pecan tree. Oh, and speaking of pecan trees, the pool is shaded by its own gigantic pecan tree, so you can soak in the pool the whole day and not worry about sunburn!
There's a guest room (I referred to it as the pool house, it has its own kitchenette with a stove, fridge, microwave, and its own bathroom) attached to the carport/garage that was great for my parents, who visited us on the weekends.
The property owners and neighbors were friendly and helpful. If you need anything during your stay they are more than happy to help you! We'll make sure and try to stay here again whenever we get the chance!

Quiet, Peaceful Retreat great for Families or just getting away.
My family rented the house for a week away in San Antonio and could not have been more delighted with the property. The yard is large and inviting and fun for kids and adults alike. The back yard is literally big enough for a baseball field! Breakfast in the tree house and swimming in the afternoons made for a memorable trip. The house is very convenient to all parts of San Antonio. The missions are walking distance. The owners were easy to work with and helpful. The house is really great and has everything you need. The game room is a hit too! We have been to San Antonio on many occassions and this trip was tops because of the house. Beats the multiple hotel rooms any day of the week!

Tucked Away Gem
My family and I (6 adults and 2 small children) stayed in this home for a week while celebrating my brother's graduation from basic training. Although it was a 20min drive to Lackland, it was worth it!! My brother was grateful that we didn't spend his time off base in a hotel room, but that we had a home to relax in. San Antonio is pretty easy to get around so we were able to enjoy it's amenities, but this beautiful clean and well-maintained home tucked away in the San Juan Mission allowed us to enjoy our family time together in solitude.
The home is very close to bike trails and playgrounds, so we were able to take runs and play with the kids. San Antonio is working on a gorgeous bike trail that follows the river all the way through the city, and at this home you are only minutes off the trail!
It comes highly recommended as the owners had great open communication before and during our stay making our visit relaxing. It's a beautiful home and property with an open concept that allowed us to swim every morning and afternoon and had a beautiful kitchen with all that is needed to cook and eat in.
One thing we thought interesting is that the master bedroom has no doors. It is at the end of the L-shaped home, but doesn't have a door. It seemed odd the first day, but despite all the people (and toddler) in the house, it was still a quiet retreat for those using it. This didn't pose a problem, just something that caught us off guard.
Other perks: Free Wi-Fi, bath and beach towels, hair dryers, and laundry

Great sanctuary while visiting the area
We (self, spouse, kids and grandkids) stayed at this wonderful home while visiting the San Antonio area in April. Everything was as or better than described and shown in the photos. Eric was a very pleasant and accomodating host, and readily available to answer any questions we had. The home itself is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac and the pool was fantastic to come home to every afternoon after visits to the Riverwalk, Zoo, Missions, Museums, etc. The one-level layout allowed the grandkids to play without concern, and the kitchen was the centering point as we ate in most evenings given our crew. In addition having the extra room next to the garage allowed the youngest baby to have his own space for early bedtimes and naps. I'd recommend this home to anyone visiting the San Antonio area.
