Beautiful, relaxing and so much fun for family!!

We arrived late at night and could not see our surroundings at all, so when we woke up we were pleasantly surprised!! The view from our bedroom was stunning... but then when we went out to the patio which sets itself out overlooking the area and then the ocean, it was perfect. Beautiful blue birds came over to join in our excitement. We saw monkeys around the area several times. Cesar and Jackie were super helpful and we went on an all day adventure, which at first felt expensive, but for all the activitites it included, we felt it was a great deal. We opted for the "private tour" but that just meant private transportation up to the adventure, about 1.5 hours away. We felt it was worth it as our driver Walter was always there ready to help us or hand us a cold beer / water when we needed it! We rented a car for half of the time we were there, walking into Coco beach town was difficult for our family (3 teenagers, and us parents). The pool up by our villa was great. Everything was well maintained. The villa itself was perfect. Very clean and really spacious and nice. The kitchen had everything we needed. We made Pina Coladas in the blender and brought them out to the pool. There was a much larger pool down by the beach as well, but we preferred the one close to our Villa. We snorkeled right on the beach and saw many colorful fish. The sand was a beautiful black color - very unique. We took the suggestion of John and Sandy, the owners and stopped on our way to SJO airport in La Fortuna. Arenal active volcano with many hotsprings. It is worth going to if you are flying into/out of San Jose Airport. All in all, we will be back. Nothing negative to say about our experience in this Villa, and this area of Costa Rica!!

Paradise Still Found!

This was the last leg of our extended stay at Bahia Pez Vela. We hope to return. Beautiful people, beautiful place. And we could not have had a kinder, more attentive owner. Our deepest thanks to Bill Zink, and to the wonderful staff of Bahia Pez Vela and Maracuyà. Our CR family forever. 🌺

More Paradise

We have had an extended stay here at Bahia Pez Vela. We continue to love it. A beautiful and welcoming property, and a villa very well laid out, bright, and comfortable. Add an unbeatable ocean view, and gorgeous sunsets, and you have Paradise indeed.

Beautiful Property

We loved this property! The view was absolutely stunning and we looked forward to the infinity pool after a long day of touring. The home has all the amenities that one could want, the grounds are gorgeous and the owner, John, was very helpful when we had questions. There are a number of restaurants close to the property but one in particular, Father Rooster, is on the property and has very tasty food and drinks. The night we were there we ate outside and listened to the live entertainment. For tour information we spoke with Cesar in the office and he, too, was very polite and helpful. We would 100% recommend this property to anyone.

Great property, great stay, huge thanks to owner

We enjoyed our two weeks stay greatly. Property is in one of the top villas and a bit away and uphill from the beach. Beach is good for snorkeling when tide is high, otherwise you can enjoy sun and the warm ocean Amazing view from the patio. Advantage is almost private pool next door as there is very few people gets there beside immediate neighbors. If you plan to walk to the beach, keep in mind the ascend or use the car. We preferred Father Rooster over Maracuyá restaurant, but try both.

Wonderful, Relaxing Experience

We stayed for a month and enjoyed every sunny day. The views from our patio were terrific and it was a 2 minute walk to the pool with another lovely view of the Pacific. The house was well appointed, all appliances worked, the a/c worked and no powere outages. Having a washer and dryer were pluses. There were two drawbacks for us, the living room furniture was uncomfortable, after sitting on it a period of time, and better reading lights in the bedrooms would be plus. The only English language channels were The Food Network, the Golf Network, CNN and Fox. Spending a month, there, it would have been nice to have had a few more selections, ie, movies. We ate at some great restaurants, Santorini, Father Rooster, Maracuya (located on the Bahia Pez Vela grounds) Tocannos, Che Sirloin and Citron (for brealfast). It was fun walking and shopping along the streets of Playa Del Coco. The Congo is a small shop with some fine handicrafts. It’s near Citron. Jackie and Caesar, in the office, were helpful in planning our rafting trip. Both are very kind and pleasant and can answer your questions. All in all, it was a wonderful vacation. If we were to return, to CR, we would stay at Playa Ocotal again. Carolyn/Ron

Beautiful property with outstanding views

This property exceeded our expectations. The pictures don’t do the villa justice. We loved waking up as the sun rose and drinking our Costa Rican coffee outside on the patio. My boys, 8 and 11 loved the beach. We went deep sea fishing and caught huge Mahi Mahi, black tuna, and needle fish. We also went on a river boat tour in the dry tropical forest. The guide was fantastic. We saw crocodiles, a monkey, iguanas, and many species of birds. On the way to the river boat tour, our guide pointed out cantaloupe fields and even pulled to the side of the rode so we could see oz pulling sand from the river. The traditional lunch we had after the tour was great too. John was extremely kind and easy to communicate with. He was always available for questions and even put up Christmas stockings for each member of our family. Overall, this was a trip my family will remember forever.

Costa Rica vacation

We recently traveled to Costa Rica and had a wonderful vacation. We rented this villa and it was the perfect property. The owner and property proved to be an outstanding choice. The property has on site staff that assisted with all of our questions and outings. The villa has a fantastic view atop a hill overlooking the ocean. There are two pool areas as well as a private beach. The location was near town and close to several great activities. You will need to rent a car as it will make it easier to get around. Also, the owner was more than helpful when our flights were delayed helping us make arrangements on a weekend to shift our arrival time. You won’t be disappointed with this choice.

Wonderful property at a quaint, friendly resort.

If you’re looking for a well appointed, comfortable property in a great location with great service, then book this property. The view is amazing. John was very helpful and responsive before and after we arrived. Plenty of room for our family of 6. There’s an infinity pool shared with 5 or so other units just around the corner from the Villa. We also enjoyed the resort pool and restaurant. Really friendly staff, excellent food and great service. You can walk to the resort pool down the hill if you don’t mind the climb back up, but we ended up driving the 2 minutes and parking by the pool. Cesar is fantastic and will help you plan any excursion or activity. If you rent jet skis, they’ll bring them right to the resort’s amazing black sand beach. The ATV tour with Carlos was fantasic as was the Guachipelin Adventure Combo. Coco is a 10 minute drive or so. Lots of great restaurants, bakeries and shopping. Can’t beat the location of the property. Really close to some secluded beaches like Playa Penca. Boogie boarding was fun at Tamarindo. Try and catch a sunset at Flamingo beach. We found Father Rooster restaurant our last night. I wish we would have found it sooner. Super friendly staff, great food and drinks right on the beach, 5 minutes from the property. Overall, can’t say enough good things about John, the house, the resort and Costa Rica.

Beautiful view and very comfortable property.

We spent a week in John and Sandy's wonderful villa. The pool is steps away and the villa is spacious and well appointed. John is a very responsive owner; when the coffee maker didn't work, he had a new one delivered within hours. We highly recommend this property.

Spacious and Well Equipped

The villa was wonderful. We had five adults and there was plenty of room. The view is spactacular and the infinity pool was a perfect spot to start or finish up a day. The pool is very close to the villa - a few steps away - we brought our lunch out there and ate it at the tables provided. The walk down to the beach and restaurant is very steep - we got lazy and drove back and forth about half the time. We were very glad that we rented a car to get into town and to go on outings. We did three tour packages - snorkeling, the river/wildlife excursion, and a half day fishing trip. We enjoyed all three - Cesar booked them, he and Jackie are very helpful. I wish we had booked the fishing trip at the beginning - because we brought the fish back and cooked it up (thanks to the very well equipped kitchen) - but then we left the next day with leftovers uneaten. John and Sandy were very easy to communicate with - they answered all of our questions- and took care of thoughful touches like putting up christmas lights. We only had one meal at the restaurant at the bottom of the hill - preffering to drive into the town and check out different local places. Two reccomendations of places to visit: - the monkey farm - which is a short drive or a long walk - and a very interesting spot - and the Lookout restaurant - food was pretty good and view was amazing - great for sunset pictures! Thanks John and Sandy for sharing your villa with us! - Gini

Amazing, Relaxing, and Absolutely Perfect

We decided to take a last minute vacation to Costa Rica. I absolutely fell in love with this property. I noticed that it was not available during the week that we wanted to go. I reached out to John and he rearranged his schedule for us. I could not believe that someone would be so kind and rearrange their life for us. John was very accommodating and extremely kind. He made us feel at ease. This property is absolutely perfect!!! It is in the perfect location. All the houses are separated. We had our privacy and I felt secure because they have staff at the entrance gate at all times. There was an infinity pool steps away from the property. We spent almost every night in the pool watching the most amazing sunsets. There is another pool just down a small hill. That pool was great also. Our kids had a great time swimming while we ate at the restaurant, Picante. The restaurant has an open concept and we sat close to the pool to watch our children play. The food is delicious at Picante. We had most of our meals here. The staff at the restaurant were extremely kind and accommodating. They always had our best interest at heart and we felt like family before we left. I highly recommend this property. Everything was perfect. The entire house was fully furnished and had everything that we needed. We lacked for nothing. The master bedroom has a beautiful balcony and we watched the sun rise over the Pacific Ocean. It was Heaven! We heard the howler monkeys many afternoons and we could hear many birds singing. It was such a cool experience. There is black sand beach steps from the property. It is beautiful! The downtown area was great and we felt very safe. Everyone in Costa Rica is very kind. We went shopping and ate at many of the local restaurants. We took the river tour and saw lots of crocodiles, iguanas, birds, and monkeys. We took a rain forest tour. It was very educational and beautiful. We highly recommend Wilsons Ranch! It was one of the highlights of our trip. We rode the horses through the country side and through the rain forest. We hooked the horses up, hiked through the rain forest, and swam in the most beautiful hidden turquoise river. We went fishing and caught over 50 fish (not kidding), we went snorkeling, we went to Tamarindo and swam in the warmest water, and we went to Diamante. We had the time of our lives. Rent a car!!! You can't go wrong with this Villa! It was a taste of heaven. Thank you, John for everything!!! The Millers

Everything We Hoped For

Simply a fantastic week! A beautiful hilltop view of Ocatal Beach, our first morning we eased into the day by sitting on the patio overlooking the ocean, enjoying our Costa Rican coffee and meeting our new monkey friends...and it only got better from there. Bahia Pez Vela is a terrific spot. Great views, multiple swimming pools, a quick walk down to the beach, nearby restaurants, easy access to the nearest town Cocoa Beach and the Liberia International Airport. John and Sandy are wonderful hosts and had everything prepared as promised for our stay. We had six adults in the villa and had more than enough room to have a cocktail, cook some dinner, have another cocktail...and relax. The villa was well appointed, had all necessary supplies like coffee maker, pots & pans, grill, towels, etc. It's exactly as you see in the pictures and is your own slice of paradise (for a week or so.) Cesar and the staff at Bahia Pez Vela were also very helpful in lining up tours, excursions and taxis. I highly recommend Costa Rica and John & Sandy's villa. If I could rate it 5 Stars + I would!

Family Adventure . . . Pura Vida!

Bahia Pez Vela is a quiet, peaceful resort of 40 villas with its own beach area and amazing restaurant Picante. John and Sandy’s villa is beautifully decorated and comfortable. Plenty spacious for our group. The kitchen is well appointed with anything you could need. It was also nice to have a laundry and a safe to store valuables. The Villa had a good supply of towels both for showering and for the beach. Did I mention the view? Stunning! It was very nice to have the pool up on the ridge by the house. There was no one there and we had it all to our self. As we are all very “connected” the wifi in the house worked great. We flew into Libera Airport. Have Cesar arrange a shuttle to pick you up especially if arriving after dark. The villa is only about 30 minutes (4 adults 4 kids $70) from the airport but the roads are a little tricky the first time in the dark between Coco Beach and the villa. You will need a car. Cesar can arrange this for drop off the next morning which was great. (8 passenger van worked great for our group – week rental with taxes and filled with gas ~$700). The villa is at the top of a steep ridge. This makes for an amazing view, excellent workout, and tests the skills of a manual transmission driver of an 8 passenger van! We really enjoyed the beach and the pool area by the beach. We ate many meals at Picante. They were extremely accommodating. Loved their frozen mojito, also try the traditional Casada. We had the place to ourselves many times as we arrived right at the end of the busy season. Their prices were reasonable and the food was great. We had Cesar arrange a fishing trip for our group. They picked us up and dropped us back at the beach. Although we didn’t catch a Rooster fish as my son hoped we caught enough red snapper for our whole group to have dinner. Picante prepared it for us traditionally and made salad, rice and plantains – all so delicious. Back to the beach. The beach is a black sand beach. Some people didn’t like this. We found no issue with the black sand. It was not any hotter and there were places to rinse by the pool. There is good snorkeling on both sides of the cove. It was really fun to hike at the beach. Go to the right and you can hike all the way to Father Roosters as long as the tide was not high. Fun adventure! Pura Vida!

It is beautiful and truly a little slice of heaven

John and Sandy's villa was the perfect place from which to explore all that Guanacaste has to offer. The villa is beautifully appointed and stocked with everything you will need to make your stay comfortable and most of all, very special. The location is superb! We sat on the veranda at the edge of the property in the early morning watching the sunrise over the hills, listening to the birds and the sounds of the howler monkeys in the trees below the property. Sitting on the same veranda at night, after a cooling dip and cocktail by the infinity pool, we saw several shooting stars in the star filled night sky and enjoyed a glass of wine with some vacationing neighbors. We had breakfast sitting under the shade of the patio close to the villa, enjoying Costa Rican coffee and pastries from the local bakery in the morning and wonderful evening meals at Picante restaurant and Father Roosters. The black sand beach was beautiful and the warm water with perfect waves were only bested by the great snorkeling! The colorful fish were spectacular! Not only has the resort itself so much to offer, the surrounding area is a area of natural beauty a hive of fun filled activities. On New Years eve, we took a sailing trip to one of the little nearby bays to snorkel, take in the sunset, which was spectacular, followed by a delicious buffet dinner at Picante after which we danced the evening away with so many fun people and watched the fireworks displays. We visited Rincon de la Vieja and Palo Verde National Parks where we enjoyed so many fun activities; zip lining, horseback riding, water tubing, which was the BEST, bathed in the nearby thermal springs and saw so many wonderful animals...crocodiles, iguanas, lizards, and monkeys on a river boat trip. We visited the local monkey farm where my daughter cuddled the cutest little baby howler monkey. We had simply the best vacation ever and I cannot say enough for how helpful John and Sandy were with helping us with logistics and information. It is clear that they love their Costa Rican home and are glad and proud to share it with those of us who have been fortunate enough to have found this little gem. It is beautiful and truly a little slice of heaven!

Fabulous Villa with stunning views.

As a family of five we all agreed that this was the best vacation (Christmas) ever. John and Sandy's 3 bedroom villa is truly amazing. From its perch at the top of a mountain, we had a panoramic view of the ocean, access to the shared infinity pool for the "upper level" villas, beautiful sunsets, the sounds of waves crashing on the beach below, and our favorite, the local howler monkeys who shared coffee in the morning with us from their perch in the tree in front of the villa's private deck area. The villa had everything we could need, it was beautifully decorated, spacious, had a well equipped kitchen, laundry room, and was very clean. The owners, John and Sandy even had a little surprise waiting for us upon arrival. Three christmas stocking were hung with our daughters names, and a bottle of champagne with glasses was awaiting our arrival. Everything was perfect.....thank you John and Sandy!! I would recommend a car to get around. We like to explore and loved venturing out on day trips to the local volcanoes, zip lining, beach combing, and hiking to several waterfalls. Cesar arranged out car rental before our arrival and was very helpful in scheduling and guiding our other adventures. We did a snorkeling trip right from our private beach at the villa. Thank you Cesar! The resort restaurant is Picante, it was very good but we also wanted to sample the local town fare in Playa Del Coco so having a care was very helpful. We enjoyed an little place called La Coq, fresh hummus, tomato feta salad, gyros etc. for a lite dinner/lunch and right next door is a gelato place. We were sad to see our vacation come to an end. We all agreed that Sandy and John were fantastic to work with, great communication via email, and phone, and we would recommend their villa without hesitation! You will not be disappointed!! In fact, we are hoping to get back to Costa Rica again in the fall and will definitely be contacting John and Sandy once again.

THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR!

This rental offers the full package: upscale home beautifully decorated, large well-equipped kitchen, 3 spacious bedrooms. Quiet resort has back yard with flowering shrubs and amazing views of Pacific Ocean and lush rolling hills from large windows, 2 patios and 1 balcony. Owners John and Sandy are genuine honest folks, friendly and accommodating. Cesar, concierge, was wonderful at arrangements, eg driver to meet us at airport (great idea!), and Adobe car rental delivered Santa Fe 4x4 next morning, as well as several tours. Location is great, 10 min to Coco Beach, a cute little resort town day and night with friendly people. Felt safe in entire area. As a Canadian and past travel /cruise consultant we have travelled Europe, Asia, USA and many tropical islands. As a first experience with VRBO / home away.com, we were curious and cautious, but look forward to many more vacations just like this!! If this description appeals, just book it - you won't regret it! Laurie and Bob, BC, Canada

The perfect vacation experience

This is the perfect vacation getaway. Villa 36 is situated on top of a hill overlooking the beautiful Papagayo bay. We have stayed at Bahia Pez Vela before and can't wait to return. This villa is by far the best maintained and equipped villa at Bahia Pez Vela. It has many upgrades that are not found in the other villa's and is situated with the best view of the area. Every kitchen item we needed was there which made cooking many of our meals very easy. There was also a small grill which was perfect for steak, fish and chicken. John and Sandy are the most gracious hosts. They checked in to make sure everything was as expected and were there to answer our questions before hand. Caesar was always available in the office to help with our every need. He helped us before we arrived by making reservations for a car and booked our many excursions we took while there. Each morning we enjoyed our Costa Rica coffee on the patio and enjoy the Macaws coming in to join us for breakfast. We were able to see a couple of whales playing in the bay and spent a lot of time just enjoying one of the most fantastic and amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. We spent several days just exploring the surrounding area and enjoying the local culture. We took trips to Tamarindo, Arenal, Play Hermosa, Playa Panama, and Liberia where we found some beautiful waterfalls. All in all this was the perfect quiet vacation we needed, in the perfect location, with the perfect hosts. Thanks John and Sandy.

Amazing Villa with phenomenal views

This villa truly exceeded our already high expectations and I completely agree with the reviews that say the pictures and descriptions don't do it justice. It was immaculately kept with all the amenities we needed. Each of the bedrooms is spacious, with two of them having a beautiful view of the ocean. John and Sandy were extremely helpful before we arrived, via email and even getting on the phone with us a couple times to answer multiple questions that we had. The folks in reception, especially Cesar, were also very helpful, making reservations for scuba diving/snorkeling, as well restaurant suggestions and reservations. The Villa is so beautifully decorated and we made full use of the two backyard patios. Not every house has this, and we really lucked out. We used the patio closer to the house during the day to stay in the shade and then sat out on the other patio at nights. The amount of stars you can see was unbelievable. My brother and I had never seen shooting stars before this trip and I saw 10, he saw 13. In the mornings, before the sun is in full force, it's also a great place to sit and see birds (hummingbirds, parakeets, white-throated magpie jays) as well as howler monkeys. The one thing I didn't love were the few raccoons that would sometimes make their rounds at night, but John and Sandy assured us that they are harmless and not rabid. They didn't bother us once we shooed them away a few times. It's very easy to get a taxi to and from Playa del Cocos and we would not recommend renting a car. The Bahia Pez Vela beach is nice, but the water was a little too rough and we much preferred the beach at Playa del Cocos. It's only about a 10 min ride and there are good restaurants and grocery stores. Try Claudio y Gloria. Delicious Paella! Also, if you can get advance reservations, I highly recommend Mario's Cuisine in Playa Hermosa. One note on Picante: highly unreliable. We were supposed to go to Christmas dinner there (Cesar had made reservations), but the chef decided to go home early. We were very upset, but luckily, we had bought groceries before arriving at the villa that evening and were able to pull together a meal for that night. We were also supposed to go there for dinner NY Eve, but canceled to avoid any last minute issues. The whole family agreed that this is one of the best vacations we've ever had, thanks to the villa, the views, the beaches, the weather, the food, and the amazing people.

A piece of Paradise

This was our first visit to Costa Rica and we can't wait to return. John and Sandy make you feel right at home. They have a beautiful Villa in a wonderful location. We just could not believe our eyes when we opened the door for the first time. The Villa was gorgeous and the views were fantastic. There are so many things to do that you could spend a month and still not finish them all. John and Sandy are very gracious and helpful. They aided us in setting up our excursions with helpful suggestions. The Staff, especially Cesar, could not have been more helpful. Everything we needed was located very close. There are restaurants, shops, market, and beaches to explore all within a short drive. That is if you don't get lost on the beautiful grounds of the Villa. There are multiple pools, a restaurant on site, and your own black sand beach. Absolutely Awesome. We would recommend this to everyone.

Perfection!!

A picture is worth a thousand words, but these pics don't even begin to do this property justice. The view is beyond gorgeous, the location is convenient to anything you want to do in Costa Rica (most everything coast to coast is within 3 hourss -obviously there are beautiful sites just minutes away too). The owners John and Sandy have created more of an oasis than a getaway. The rental is so well appointed and taken care of, you'll wonder if anyone else has ever stayed there. Really. It's pristine. Sandy and John were also very savy tour guides. You can tell they love the area, and have road tested pretty much anything you would want to see or do. Cannot say enough about the wonderful restaurant just down the hill. We stayed in Costa Rica for 8 days, traveled to several different cities, and ate out almost every lunch and dinner - the restaurant in this community was one tops on the list, and the folks here are so welcoming, you'll feel like family. The view from the villa is beautiful by day of course, but my favorite moments were spent on the deck after dark - the stars were so clear, bright and numerous, it was like a planetarium - but with wine! I would highly recommend this property - you won't be disappointed, and if you're like me, you'll be very sad to leave it behind.

Awesome Spring Break in Costa Rica

We just returned from our family vacation in Costa Rica and we agreed it was a '10' experience! Where do I begin ... Cesar was extremely helpful with planning our excursions which included horse back riding, swimming at the waterfall, zip line, whitewater tubing, relaxing in the hot springs or snorkeling. My favorite was the massage on the beach. We also met many folks staying at the resort including owner's -Janice and Aden. In fact they invited us one evening to watch the sunset from their villa (#30). The sunset was spectacular. Dinners at Picante were delicious and Danny and he guys were quite the entertainers. Our villa was immaculate with lovely personal touches and well equipped. Really appreciated all the personal touches to make our stay so comfortable - including a basket full of wine, chips and salsa from the owner's - John and Sandy. John and Sandy were so eager to help us with where to go for groceries, restaurants, day trips, etc. Always felt safe as the resort is a gated community with security employees. I plan to let all my friends, neighbors and relatives know about Bahia Pez Vela - it's paradise!
