We absolutely loved our stay at the Walden. We found it cozy and comfortable. The Christmas decorations really made it feel like home. I wasn't super crazy about the steep driveway and drive up but hey it's the mountains. After a few trips I became a pro. and
This place was amazing! The house was perfect, exactly as described. Great location, and feels very secluded while not being too far from Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. The hosts were lightning fast to communicate and answer any questions we had. I would definitely book this place again.
It is secluded with a beautiful view just like you want in a Smoky Mountain vacation.
The hosts are fantastic with communication.
However, I think the owners of the cabin need to find a different cleaning/maintenance company for their cabin. My mom and I picked up over 30 screws, nails, and staples from the driveway where they had had work done to the cabin prior to our arrival. This may not seem like a very big deal, but it is a very secluded cabin with a steep driveway. A flat tire would have been a nightmare.
The bleach floater in the hot tub was empty, and had orangeish brown gunk in it. There was trash left on the deck.
We pitched the dirty sock in the downstairs bedroom that was left by the previous guests.
The extra towels in the bathroom were kept in the bathroom sink cabinet and were literally touching and laid next to the toilet bowl plunger. Gross. Obviously, we re-washed and used the same towels while we were there.
Beautiful cabin. Wonderful hosts who’ve just made the wrong choice with their maintenance and cleaning company in my opinion.
My husband and I (and our two Labradors) loved our stay at the Walden. The cabin is in a great/secluded location. Nice open concept with comfortable amenities. Internet was very good (should anyone need to stay connected). Great community with the owners. You can tell they take a lot of pride in their cabin! Can’t wait to stay again.
The home was very nice in a great location with a gated community safe for kids
Owner of home was very good with communication throughout our stay even had someone come by and clean the leaves off the driveway to make it easier to commute
We stayed 9 days and 8 nights and will definitely stay here next year if available
Also pet friendly which is good
Thanks
The listed details were very accurate and we had a great time.. excellent communication with property owners during our stay…. Only negative which is no fault of property owner is nature didn’t provide any bears from the patio view:). I would definitely recommend and prepare for the steep driveway. Very manageable
We stayed here for a week. Really nice place in a very secluded nice area. The only thing I will say is that the hot tub had a funny smell and the bleach floater was empty. I’m guessing since it was July nobody really uses it. Other than that we enjoyed our stay.
The hosts have excellent communication and are very responsive. The cabin is truly private. No other cabins within sight. All you see are trees and some of the road through some thick trees. (No vista view)
I sent up a quadcopter drone and all I could see was solid trees and a few other structures at a distance. The cabin itself was not visible through the forest canopy unless you looked really close and knew exactly where it was.
The upstairs loft/room and bath is the “nice” spot with the larger bathroom. The downstairs room is more private with a door that closes and if you close the window blinds it gets nice and dark so you can have a nap and lose all track of time.
The bed frames are very nice and the mattresses are the perfect firmness with cozy comfort.
You can use the TV Roku to sign into your favorite streaming services and the system will automatically purge your private information upon checkout.
Kitchen has full size fridge and oven. Nice sink with a fancy faucet. There is also a small dish washer.
Due to the forest canopy, don’t bring your telescope. (I left mine at home after communicating with hosts)
Fireflies come out just after dark. I was able to get some nice long exposure pics of them flying around. (iOS app called NightCap and a tripod to hold iPhone)
If you are going hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains, I recommend getting up at 6:00 AM for arrival at trail head at about 8:00 - 8:30 AM. If you go later you won’t find parking.
Very nice, clean, well furnished and private home that had everything we needed.
Hosts were very attentive, although during our stay we had everything we needed. Development was gated and felt very safe.
We had a great time!
We stayed at the Walden or a family getaway/attended a family wedding. It was a beautiful cabin and everything the description described. Tara was a wonderful host and answered all of our questions. We had a very late check-in due to traffic, and everything went smoothly when we got there. We even brought our dog with us, and there were even blankets and dog bowls. We had a wonderful time.
We (4 adults and 3 dogs) stayed 4 nights. This host had one of the most reasonable pet fees, for multiple dogs, that I found in my searches. It took 15-20 minutes to get to the parkway that runs through Pigeon Forge. The property was as advertised. The cabin is clean and nicely decorated. We didn't use the hottub, but it looked very clean. If you take pets, there isn't much room for bathroom breaks which wasn't unexpected given we were on the side of a mountain. Linens were nice and plenty of towels were provided. The host was very responsive to messages through the app. Definitely download directions prior to going, cell phone signals drop out well before entering the Shagbark community. We did not use any of the community ammenities but they looked nice and well kept. Not a review of the cabin, but on the fridge is a magnet for PawPaw's Catfish Kitchen. If you like New Orleans inspired food, I cannot recommend it enough. By far the best meal of our trip. Overall this was a great place to stay!
My husband and I love to travel with our 3 fur kids! The Walden was very accommodating and we all had a great time. We would definitely recommend and hope to be back next year!
We loved there were wireless chargers in each room, that wasn’t noted but an added bonus!
Many others noted in their review there were not any grassy areas for your dogs to “go”. This is true but you are in the mountains, what do you expect! Our dogs were fine walking up and down the driveway and doing their business to the side of the road. I would recommend brining a flashlight, helps when they need to go out late.
This cabin is absolutely amazing! Private location, super comfortable beds, oversized fluffy towels (embroidered with the cabin’s name!), extra throw blankets, and even pet specific blankets, too - the hosts have nailed all the small details that are usually overlooked in vacation rentals. We loved staying here and so did the dog!
Overall we were very happy with our stay, albeit a few cons. There were a few steep inclines driving to the cabin but that was to be expected, however I would recommend arriving before dark in order to navigate the roads easier. We also brought our 16lb dog and he is picky about where he does his business and there really isn’t any grass for him to use, so it took some time for him to figure it out. I was aware the the cabin was no smoking but I thought I would be able to sit on the deck and smoke a cigar. Both inside and outside are non smoking. In addition the chairs on the deck need to be cleaned before you can sit outside and it wasn’t worth my time to do it. Water pressure and quality of towels were great. Unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to use the hot tub but it looked nice but again deck needed to be cleaned.
Was a nice cabin in the mountain. Glad to be able to bring my dogs it was our first trip with them. Was kinda hard to take them potty outside because there’s no grass but it is a mountain so not sure why I thought it would lol. Didn’t have any issues with our stay and we did see a bear standing at the deck. Our portable cooler was on the porch and a raccoon came to steal it twice! Lol we are used to them so wasn’t a big deal but my husband had to go wrestle the cooler back. As far as location it is pretty secluded and not too far to the community pool which is nice but was a bit farther than expected to the city attractions.. no problem with traffic or anything though so that’s nice. I was pleasantly surprised that the hosts had more supplies than a typical rental which was a bonus! Lots of games, plenty of paper products, some salt and pepper, and extra blankets. Pool table could use some updated sticks with tips but I would imagine not everyone takes good care of the items so just having them is a gift. Hot tub was clean and nice. So overall I would recommend and we enjoyed our stay. Thank you
It was amazing! Everything was perfect!
Such a beautiful property and great host! I highly recommend this rental and we’ll be back very soon! Thank you! 😀
