WOW! Lake and Mountain Views in a WOW! True Timber Frame House

Note: property was long-term rented, now coming to a close. Get your reservation in before availability evaporates!!!

Backcountry 4-season adventure paradise! Located near the end of the pavement of Hwy 129, this area is literally completely surrounded by national forest and functions essentially as a box canyon with extensive back country access. The beautiful house is intricately constructed of beetle kill pine timber and is a short stroll (or cross-country ski) to Steamboat Lake State Park for fishing, water sports, etc. and is also very close to Pearl and Hahn’s Peak lakes, Mt. Zirkel Wilderness Area and numerous other adventure wonderlands. This property is near the end of a paved highway that terminates into and is surrounded by countless acres of mesmerizing national forest. Tons of cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, biking, equestrian, fishing, hunting, ATV/UTV, and other amazing adventure are just out your door. The beauty of this area is truly mind-bending and may just leave a durable visual and emotional imprint upon you.

Working remotely? You’ve found the perfect spot (if you can peel your eyes away from the view!), with 250Mb (up/down) fiber internet on a wireless network throughout all 3 levels of the house. Or just relax and take in the panoramic mountains surrounding this wonderfully-built home.

One More Step house is in historic Hahn’s Peak Village, a very pleasant small community about 30 minutes north of the town of Steamboat Springs. Roads and gently-sloped driveway are well-maintained year-round, but it snows a lot in the winter so an appropriate vehicle is recommended.

The house Is about 2,150 sq ft, 3 levels, and sleeps 6 in 3 queens, each its own room. A queen sleeper couch for the TV room is also on order. The layout is a 2-car carport, mud room, and TV room downstairs, master/kitchen/dining/living on main level, sitting area with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. Both main level and upstairs have washer/dryer for convenience. New owners are committed to making your stay wonderful and are in the process of updating furniture/artwork, as you might pick out by carefully reviewing the photos. Essentially all the furniture through the house has recently or will shortly be replaced with custom artisan creations. As an example, notice before/after pics of living room. Recent renovations have beautified and added utility to the mud room, updated kitchen counters, improved pantry utility, etc. By county regulation, 30-night minimum stay is required.

We look forward to you having a wonderful stay!

Snowmobile vacation

Our stay was nothing short of great! The area was the greatest for everything winter you could ever imagine. My crew and I enjoyed the whole month of January and would defiantly go back to do it again. The space is listed perfectly and shows exactly what you will be getting from all the pictures. Yes the kitchen is small but it has everything you could ever need to cook anything and everything. Be carful of the driveway after some warm days and cold night as it can be slippery but asides from that there is nothing to say other than positive things about our stay!

Wonderful home great hosts

We stayed over a month mainly to snowmobile, trail is right down the road very easy to access. House is great only thing that would be better is if they had a TV on the main floor in the living area to use while cooking relaxing to watch holiday movies with the family. When you are there for a long stay of a month plus its nice to catch the local news weather etc. I can see if you are there for 3 nights no big deal not to have a TV. They have a TV downstairs. If you are bringing your sled trailer the driveway is pretty steep to park any length of trailer ours is real long we got it in the driveway but not safe to unhook and drop there at the house. Go see the great folks at Steamboat Lake Outpost they can get you some parking for the trailer. Be sure to respect the neighbors and ride in and out on your sleds very slow so you do not disturb anyone. Wifi is excellent you can stream and work remote zero issues. The person they contract to do snow removal does a perfect job he is there multiple times a day blowing the driveway clear. All in all great stay.

Phenomenal! The location cannot be beat.

My family and I had the good fortune to stay at this incredible house. It was very clean and comfortable. The grand feature is the family room that provides a panoramic view of the valley, Steamboat Lake and the encircling mountains. The picturesque backdrop is so incredible you would have to see to believe. We enjoyed many outdoor activities – hiking, biking, horseback riding, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding. Steamboat Lake has a swimming area for the kids with a sand beach. There are two excellent restaurants, one walking distance. There are ice cream shops and a great pizza place open on the weekends. Gas is available a few minutes away. When we finally made the trip into Steamboat we enjoyed the rodeo, Alpine slide, putt putt golf and shopping. The fourth of July was more than memorable. There was a parade followed by an Arts and Craft Fair, tours of the historic buildings and then an ice cream social. That evening there was a fireworks display from an island in Steamboat lake. Cars lined the roadways in every direction. The best seat in the house was from the front-porch balcony of our rental. We were directly across from the launching point and elevated enough for us to have a completely unobstructed view of the entire extravaganza. Our trip was delightful, restorative and comfortable. The neighbors were terrific. Thank you so much Erik and Elissa for being such wonderful hosts! We love your home and are already on planning a return visit.

Best Place to stay in North Routt

Elissa & Erik are the most hospitable and accommodating hosts that anyone could hope for. They made our stay enjoyable and accommodated our every need. As stunning as the architecture is the sunsets are what make the house so memorable. Almost as good as the sunsets is the access to everything North Routt has to offer. You can walk out the door and walk down to Steamboat Lake, or head east and access the National Forest from multiple trail heads a few blocks away. When we weren't enjoying the outdoors the blazing faster fiber optic internet make working a breeze.

The most special place!

This is the best VRBO we have ever stayed at. It was extremely clean, well appointed (essentials were there, also had everything and more you would need to cook). Erik was an amazing host. He was super communicative and even looked up recycling options for us. The WiFi was also super fast. Then the view and the architecture were just so amazing. The pictures don’t do it justice. The view of the mountains is so gorgeous. Not mentioned, you get a sunset over them each night. Hahn’s peak is such a unique little neighborhood if you are looking to get away and relax. We enjoyed hiking and trail runs on the roads behind. We had the most special stay and hope to come back!

About the host

Hosted by Elissa And Erik

Host profile image
Elissa and Erik met in Hawaii about a decade ago, where we live with our toddler named Silas (who has a baby brother due in April!). Elissa grew up in Fort Collins, where her parents still live. Elissa’s parents introduced us to this area some years ago and we were immediately smitten. Her sister also fell in love and recently bought a house in the village. We knew we had to set down roots, and then this dreamy house came on the market. It was destiny.

Ideally, we would like to visit seasonally. Travel from Hawaii with children in these times can be challenging, but we look forward to an improving future. Elissa’s sister will be living in the village full time through the winter. Their father has thus far been unable to resist the charm of the area, and will probably also join, with mom making frequent visits.

We supremely enjoy our time here and would like to invite you to come do the same. But be advised, it may get into your blood as well.

Why they chose this property

This house is amazingly constructed. Huge, locally-sourced beetle kill timber posts and beams abound. The great room area is finished largely with wooden pegs (rather than metal connectors), in an amazing display of craftsmanship. Ceilings soar around you, creating the feel of your own personal ski resort. Don’t throw stones, because glass is everywhere. With gorgeous wood to frame the views, the mountainscapes will captivate you from sunup until sundown (or at least until you disappear into it for your daily adventure 😁). There are much pricier nearby options, as well as smaller places without nearly the level of finish. This lovely home strikes a very sweet spot in between.

As for adventure, this area is a standout! If there is a sport you like to do in the mountains, most likely you can do it in a remarkable way very nearby. Like to hike or mountain bike? Better book for the whole summer, because you’re not gonna want to leave. Fishing your thing? Get your reservation in early. Hunting? Grab the season. Snowmobiling, cross-country skiing? Tons of groomers and virgin pow. Back-country skiing/other powder sports? Jackpot! Even if you want to ski/snowboard Steamboat Resort, that’s not out of the question. It’s about 40 scenic minutes. You may not be doing it day after day, but it’s certainly doable with some frequency, especially if you are comfortable driving in the winter. The roads are well-maintained, with frequent plows, but it is still winter in the mountains. Also be sure to check out Hahn’s Peak Roadhouse, 3/4 mile away with ATV/Razor rentals, horseback rides, snowmobile rentals, and much more.
