About this property
Loire Valley year-round country loft near Chinon
Standing between the historical town of Chinon and the “Ideal City” of Richelieu — built in the 17th century at the order of the notorious Cardinal Richelieu (1585–1642) —, Château de Belebat offers you the perfect nest to host your next Loire Valley Adventure.
Built in 1626, this small barn was mainly used to store hay and grain to feed the animals, but it was within its stone walls the stableman also found his bed at the end of the long day.
Almost 400 years later, after a complete renovation, Le Barn — as we call it — house, once again, a bed to envelope someone’s dreams. Not quite the stableman’s coop, the 17th century den has now been transformed into a modern country loft with hot water, underfloor heating and a fully outfitted kitchen — where a breakfast basket will be waiting for you. The living room has plenty of feather-filled cushions, to sink you into comfort and into the mood to tackle that book you’ve been longing to finish, or put some music on and be transported by that pulse that gets you going or, simply, enjoy a movie break in front of a roaring fire — we all love a bit of screen-time after a long touring day.
Up the stone stairs, tucked away next to the dressing room, a welcoming shower-room will get you ready to dive into the indulgent double bed that will gently snug you in to dreamland.
Right outside your front door, under the fresh canopy of an old lime tree, there is a little table and chairs set up for you to relax, enjoy a mid afternoon apero or a nice laidback breakfast.
There is a small barbecue for you to use there as well.
Belebat is a small country estate facing a major restoration journey. You are welcome, however, to feel at home and make the most of the grounds. Stroll down the park around the chateau, enjoy nature’s soothing magic and take a picnic in the forest or grab a bike and venture down the amazing bike path right outside our heavy gates.
Belebat is our family home. We live with our three little boys in one of the houses on the property. Therefore, you will be welcome and looked after by us. There will always be one of us available throughout your stay, in case you have any questions or need help.
Pet Policy - we love our pets and your pets are more than welcome to join you while you stay with us. We ask you to please clean up after them, both inside and outside. There is a 35€ additional fee for pets, which we will collect after you have completed the booking process.
Within one hour drive from your home in the Loire Valley, you can explore most of what the “Garden of France” has to offer. Two wonderful zoos, an incredible wealth of world class vineyards, outdoor family fun like canoeing in front of castles and medieval villages, trekking through the forest or cycling — one of the cycle paths being right outside the stone walls of Belebat — and, of course, castles, castles and more castles — this UNESCO heritage site will exceed your most outrageous expectations.
There is a brand new bike path directly outside the chateau's gates and you are more than welcome to borrow our bicycles for a leisurely ride to Chamigny-sur-Veude to the bolangerie or a more grand adventure to the nearby villages of Richelieu or Chinon. However, it is best to have a car to enjoy the Loire Valley and all its treasures.
