My family (5) flew down from Ohio. We haven't seen each other since summer of 2019, so we wanted to do something special. Great communication leading up to arrival: quick response to questions, sent list of places to eat/shop, gave info about beach passes etc. Check in wasn't until 4p, so we had some fun in the day and arrived tired and ready to unpack and crash at 9pm. Upon entry we immediately noticed that this home had not been cleaned. It was disgusting. There were crumbs on every surface, spilled cereal on the counter, dirty dishes in the sink and dishwasher, trash in random places, leftover food in fridge and pantry, dirty (spoiled milk) towel in washer, ALL beds were messed up and obviously slept in, dirty towels piled on bathroom floor, a dirty handkerchief on a chair, burnt food covering stove top burners, flies all over. It smelled, funky. The outside table had greasy goo on it so we couldn't even use that while we waited FOREVER to get ahold of someone. We seriously thought maybe we had arrived at the wrong house and triple checked the address. We called, emailed, and texted constantly until the media manager called us. She apologized and arranged for a housekeeper to come out. At this time, we also noticed the crock pot I had emailed to confirm would be there, was not. We were told we could purchase one and be reimbursed. We had planned to make a big crock pot meal each morning to be ready in the evening. Now that wasn't going to be possible. We had 5 kids with us (3, 7, 8, 12, 15) and 5 adults (one was 69 yrs old). We decided that by the time someone would thoroughly clean the house, we could be almost back in Houston. Where were we going to wait while the house was cleaned? This and we couldn't unpack until the house had been cleaned. We would be so tired of waiting up to unpack the next day would be ruined. AND we would still need to go out and buy a crock pot or new food. So, at around 10:30p we decided to leave. Our family trip was completely ruined. Our food spoiled. We ended up getting a hotel room in Victoria for the night because we were so tired. Someone (media manager?) immediately (same night) reimbursed the full price paid and texted the next day to ask for the pictures we took, but it's been 5 days and I haven't heard from anyone. I understand it is the cleaning company that messed up, but no one has reached out to us at all! Also, you will NEVER get a hold of anyone at VRBO for any assistance. Book at your own risk!!
