About this property

Bunkhouse Cabin The Lazy Buffalo Cache Wichita Mountains Family Reunion Kitchen

Nestled among the foothills of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, the Bunkhouse at The Lazy Buffalo is the perfect gathering place. We carried over the same rustic charm of our Cabins when designing the 2400 square foot space.

Ideal for Family Reunions or Retreats. Features include a large gathering area, 2 themed bunkrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a spacious kitchen with cooking and baking essentials, plus a one of a kind serving bar, an outdoor picnic space with fire pit, a vintage star gazing truck, old fashion games, and outdoor recreation. Sleeps 8.

LIL ABOUT THE BUNKHOUSE
The gorgeous dark stained floors run throughout bringing out the beauty of the space where we used a mixture of vintage bricks and various tones of barn wood on the walls. The tin ceiling is picture worthy.

The LED lighting really brightens up the space and the floors are equipped with ample electrical outlets which is a favorite of our crafting guests. We provide flat screen televisions in both the main area and both bedrooms. A quaint area off to the side has a comfy seating, cowhide rug, vintage iron stove, and an antique coin operated ride on horse. Kids will also enjoy the "I Spy" adventure while hunting for the woodland critters hidden throughout the space. Everyone will want a turn at the arcade style foosball table or beat your buddies playing card games at the poker table.

Cook up a homemade meal in the spacious kitchen complete with oven & stove top, fridge with ice maker, microwave, dishwasher, plus cooking and baking essentials. Whether you are serving up a special meal or kicking back with friends enjoying your favorite beverage, the bar top area named “Jack’s Mule Barn” by our grand-kids is sure to be a popular spot. Don't forget to ring the dinner bell when it's time for all to gather.

Cozy up for the night in one of the two themed bunkrooms which sleep up to 8 guests. Each room has four twin sized beds with climate control and luxurious linens to keep you comfortable, plus their own private bathroom with large walk in glass showers and stylish vessel sinks sit atop vintage dressers.

During your stay, enjoy complimentary Netflix and Wi-Fi or unplug and take in the beauty of our area. Southwest Oklahoma sunsets are truly worth witnessing.

Sip on a cup of coffee to get your morning started right and end your adventurous day gathered at the picnic area while enjoying smells from the charcoal grill. Yummy marshmallow goodness at the fire pit is a memorable way to cap off the evening or choose to relax under the stars in the back of our vintage star gazing truck, located just a short walk from the cabin.

Both kids and adults will love tossing horseshoes and playing old fashion games. Toss Frisbees at the disc golf stations, drop giant checkers to make a Connect 4, create music at our interactive music wall, or team up for some volleyball action. We are always adding new outdoor activities. Don't forget to snap some memories at The Lazy Buffalo photo ops.

LOCATION:
The Bunkhouse at The Lazy Buffalo oozes that down home charm. The Wildlife Refuge, which is just over 2 miles away, preserves 59,000 acres of mixed prairie grass, ancient mountains, lakes, and streams. Herds of bison, longhorn, and elk can be seen roaming free and there's endless recreations opportunities such as fishing, bird watching, mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, and kayaking.

A paved bike lane joins the property and runs throughout the Wildlife Refuge. The Lazy Buffalo is less than a mile from the original Quanah Parker’s Star House and minutes from Lawton Fort Sill and historic Medicine Park so there's plenty to see and do nearby.

Great location and stay

We had a wonderful trip. Everything was as advertised in the posting. The house was well stocked and had everything we needed for a great weekend trip. We came to hike and enjoy the Wichita Mountains, and the location was perfect for going to the park. My kids loved all the quirky touches and space to play.

We needed extra accommodations for family from out of town and The Bunkhouse was great for this need. There was space for the kids and having the kitchen there was so convenient. Everyone enjoyed their stay.

The bunkhouse had something for everyone. It was clean, spacious, and had plenty of activities!

The bunkhouse had something for everyone. It was clean, spacious, and had plenty of activities! We will definitely be returning again. The bunkhouse sleeps 8, but there were only enough towels for 6. The bedrooms were very hot. So be sure to bring a towel with you and a fan for your bedside.

Annual Grands Adventure 2023

Evey year I take my 9 grandchildren on a vacation "no parents" allowed. We chose the Wichita Mountains for this year. The kids and adults absolutely love the Bunkhouse! I would recommend it 💯. The stargazing truck was a favorite and we even saw a shooting star. We will be back to finish exploring the Wichita Mountains!

Camp Retreat

We had a great time and had fun with all the indoor and outdoor games. Kids loved the indoor scavenger hunt, but were upset that they could not find the last butterfly. Space was great, but wish bathrooms had a shelf or 2 to put clean clothes during shower. I don't like having to put on the floor. I have already recommended your place to my co-workers and family. Location was great to the Wildlife Refuge.

Wonderful

This property was such a fun place to stay! It was a perfect place to relax with our soldier for a few hours on family day before he had to go back to Fort Sill for graduation. The beds were very comfortable, everything was clean, our teens loved the I Spy and the vintage phone collection. The collection of things to do and big open space was fantastic.

Christie’s -7th annual girls weekend

As a promise to my sister who passed at the age of 38 from cancer, her sisters, cousins, nieces and close girl friends meet each year to remember her and to celebrate each other. The Lazy Buffalo was the perfect venue this year! Julie and Larry (and Charlie) were very hospitable! They thought of everything and more!!! Water in the fridge and snacks in every room!!!! Need extra paper supplies, they brought them to us! Such a wonderful place! Would be great for a family reunion!!!

This place was great! Would stay again when visiting the area. The place is close to food ,fuel, and restaurants which are within minutes of driving. The medicine park refuge and aquarium are minutes away with restaurants and swimming available. This place is easy to find and access off the main hwy. So if your in the Lawton area with a large or small group and don’t want to have to be locked up in hotel room with no space ,then the outdoor setting of the lazy buffalo should be taken into consideration. Safe travels and enjoy your trip!

Rented this for my 40th girls hiking trip!

We had a wonderful time!! It was clean. Posted accurately. Everyone had their own bed. Plenty of space to play games, chat and just enjoy our visit. Full kitchen was very nice. There's two full bathrooms, one in each room. There was also a half bath off the main room. It was literally a perfect location for a place to stay and go hiking at in the Wichita Mountains. It took us only 8 minutes to get where we wanted to start. Lawton was only 20 minutes away for restaurants. There is a Walmart within 20 minutes, if needed. Cute, fun, reasonably priced. We will be back, thanks again!!

About the host

Host profile image
We have lived in Southwest Oklahoma for over 60 years and love our hometown of Cache. The Wichita Mountains are right in our backyard, and we get to enjoy their beauty every day.

In 2019, The Lazy Buffalo opened with 5 vacation rental Cabins. These Cabins were designed to capture the essence of the Wichita Mountains and the history of our hometown. In 2021, the Venue with Bunkhouse opened, and we carried over the same western vibe when designing the 2400 square foot space. Throughout 2022 and 2023, we opened 6 more Cabins and in late 2023 our first set of pet friendly Cabins opened.

Conveniently connected by sidewalks, it's just a short stroll being the bunkhouse, our Cabins, and 24 hour guest laundry. All together, we can accommodate up to 49 guests among the 13 Cabins and Bunkhouse.

We are blessed to be family owned and managed. Our favorite thing about hosting is seeing multi-generation Families gathered around sharing quality time together. Should you need anything during your stay, our home is only 2 blocks from the Cabins. We hope you make wonderful memories while being our guest at The Lazy Buffalo.

Why they chose this property

Southwest Oklahoma is rich with History and offers endless things to do and discover.

CACHE - our hometown
Dine in at a local cafe or order fast food to enjoy at our outdoor pavilion. Wahlburgers, the first one on Oklahoma is located just across the highway inside the casino. This burger restaurant is family friendly.

The Cache City Park has a Pickleball Court with lights. Kids will enjoy the splash pad (open Summer) & playground equipment. The park features a paved trail and has kids bikes available for use.

For those that like to hit the slots, the Comanche Cache Casino is now open and has over 300 games. Casino is ages 18 and up and is non-smoking.

For history enthusiasts, Quanah Parker’s Star House is nearby. The two story home is known for its distinctive wraparound porch with large white stars adoring the roof. Many tales of the famous outlaws Belle Starr and Jesse James were rumored to have roamed our area. Will you be the one to find their hidden loot?

WICHITA MOUNTAINS WILDLIFE REFUGE – 3 miles
The Wildlife refuge spans 59000 acres and home to free range buffalo, longhorn cattle, and other species. Stop at the Visitor Center for a wealth of information on all the Refuge attractions including the Holy City, Quanah Parker Lake, parallel forest, forty-foot hole, and Charon’s garden trail.

MEERS & MEDICINE PARK – less than 15 miles
Take a scenic drive to Meers, a town known for its gold rush days. America’s cobblestone community, Medicine Park, is just past Mount Scott.

LAWTON - 10 to 20 minutes
Lawton is a bigger city and has activities such as casinos, iMax Movie Theater, shopping, and restaurants. Walmart, Academy, and Target are a short drive up the highway.

FORT SILL – 20 minutes
Fort Sill is the last remaining active military post that was built during the Indian war and is home to the US Army's Field Artillery. The prominent Native American leader of the Chiricahua Apache, Geronimo, is buried at the Fort Sill Cemetery.

What makes this property unique

LOCATION! only 2.7 miles to the entrance of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Since we are right on the highway, it is a quick drive to Fort Sill and Lawton, Oklahoma.

UNIQUE! Our Cabins and Bunkhouse are each individually themed to capture the essence of the Wichita Mountains and the history of our hometown.

MEMORABLE! old fashion games, star gazing truck, fire pit, photo ops, wild west adventure
