One of seven log cabins on Otter Lake in Michigan's western Upper Peninsula.
Come relax and take in the quiet beauty of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Our seven log cabins overlook Otter Lake, a 900-acre sport fishing, paddling and boating paradise. Built by Finnish settlers in the 1930s, the cabins offer full kitchens and baths, cozy comforts and traditional Scandinavian décor. Cabin #2 sleeps four and offers a cozy floorplan and lake views.
Features include:
1) One separate bedroom with double bed and a comfortable queen futon in the main living area
2) Traditional Finnish log construction
3) Fieldstone fireplace (non-working)
4) Separate kitchen
5) Open living/dining area
6) Large deck overlooking the lake
7) Full bath with shower
8) Front and rear entrances
9) Reserved parking next to cabin
The cabin also includes a 12-foot aluminum boat for your use. Canoes, kayaks and paddleboards are also available. More than 300 feet of shoreline, two docks and acres to explore!
House Rules:
-No children are permitted to take a boat out unless accompanied by an adult. The boat operator is responsible for any damage, accident or casualty.
-No cleaning of fish in the cabin. There is a fish cleaning table with water, lights and waste pails behind the cabins.
-Absolutely no burning of the fireplaces. They are not operable.
-Dogs are allowed, up to 2 pets per cabin. There are additional pet fees (see add-ons).

September getaway

Great quiet setting, close to lots of beaches, trails, and Houghton. Our dog loved the large area to walk and play. Beautiful lake, would definitely come back!

Serenity achieved!

This is our second stay here and just like the first time, it was excellent! The peace & quiet cannot be emphasized enough, which is why we choose Christine's property for our vacation destination. The cabins are located on Otter Lake. A boat, kayaks, canoes are all provided for you to enjoy the lake along with all gear needed for water safety.

A very special place

This is a very special place for those wanting to get a feel for the beauty of the Otter River country and northern UP of Michigan. Christine is a wonderful, gracious host. A great place to stay and to use as place to explore the surrounding area.

The Perfect Cabin Getaway with sauna

The sauna was excellent! We used the sauna every day. The place is quiet and relaxing. The cottages are clean and enjoyable. The owner was terrific and always available. We highly recommend this place for a week/weekend getaway. Thank you Christine for letting us enjoy the week at your cabin!

Beautiful spot on a gorgeous lake

Christine greeted us with a complimentary quart of raspberries from her garden, gave us a brief history of the vintage cabins, resort. Our only regrets were not spending more time at the property and on the lake. We'll certainly be back.

The Perfect Cabin Getaway

This cabin was PERFECT for a long weekend getaway. It had everything we were looking for, from a beautiful wooded view to a perfect lake view. It was very peaceful and quiet. We took advantage of the boats offered and went fishing. We caught 5 catfish that we later baked that night. Let me just tell you that those were the best fish I’ve ever ate. My little boy also loved the cabin and everything it had to offer. Everything is legit and as the website described but times 10. Thank you Christine for letting us enjoy the weekend holiday at your cabin!

Still beautiful after 30 years!

My family and I spent a week at Mannien’s over 30 years ago. My sister and I were really excited to revisit this area. I was happy to see it was just as lovely and peaceful as I remembered! Christine and family are doing a wonderful job and I highly recommend these wonderful little cabins!

Beautiful place right in the center of the fall colors

The cabins are covered by trees we couldn't even see them on google map. Very cute, clean and cozy cabin, well equipped with all living supplies. Forest, lawn, lake, fishing, hiking, boating, or just rest on the front porch, all relaxing and comfortable. We also visited a few tour sites in a hour driving distances. Plus, the owner is very nice and helpful. This was the dream vacation. We'll reserve early and come back again next year.

Fall on the Lake

we had a long weekend get away. The cabins were quaint, clean and cozy. Christine was a wonderful host. We enjoyed campfires by the lake and the relaxing sauna. The Fall colors were beautiful!

Great Cabins with Sauna!

The cabin was lovely. Adorable vintage kitchen countertop with plenty of cooking supplies ( bring your own cooking oil ). The sauna was excellent! And the property was secluded, clean & quiet. We enjoyed the boats and badminton.

Like coming home again

We stayed here all through the ‘80’s. Owner has refreshed furnishings while retaining the quaintness. Perfect for families, fishermen. Highly recommend!

Annual family gathering

Been in this cabin many times in the last 60+ years. That was just my husband and I. However, Cabin 1 is the gathering place and my sister's family stays there but this year just her as COVID concerns kept others home in Indiana. My brother & sister-in-law were in Cabin 4, their daughter and family in Cabin 3 and my sister's daughter and family in cabin 7. The 2 sons-in-law were working online much of weekday mornings so the nieces, their children and dogs were frequently out playing with them in yard or on lake or in cabin 1 We brought most of the food we needed for the group and Karvakos in Tapiola has most other items needed. Other than trip to Portage Quilt House with my sister and Sunday trip to laundromat to start second week with clean clothes I didn't leave the lake but never bored. I do bring my sewing machine and my husband brings music equipment. The two 7-year olds seemed to love fishing so my husband, brother, one of the "parents" and the 7-year olds went out fishing. There were some jam sessions in our cabin with the guys who all play guitars. It was still a fun vacation in spite of the COVID restrictions. Hopefully next year that will not be looming over us.
