Tranquil Getaway

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely home. A fully apportioned kitchen and thoughtfully decorated living space highlighted this beautiful rental. And that’s saying a lot because the location is second to none! Only a few steps down to the beach or a quick walk in to town or any of the stunning wooded areas that surround this property make for easy access to all that Grand Haven has to offer.

Gals Grand Getaway

This was a PERFECT place for our gals weekend. The 5 of us have stayed at hotels in past years and all agreed renting a house is the way to go, we''ll be back! The house is well equipped, the sunsets were fabulous, the 3 baths were a bonus...just a great place to stay. Close to downtown for shopping and restaurants.

Beautiful Grand Haven!

Lovely cottage, tucked up in the dunes, and close to everything and everyplace you might want to go. My family has been coming to Grand Haven since my mother was a child..95 years...and we know the area well. The Virginia Cottage was perfect, and we loved the beautiful art throughout the house. We had a wonderful three days in May.

The cottage was very comfortable and accommodating. We enjoyed the quiet neighborhood and yard with.

Great location. We walked to town for breakfast and two dinners. Each one way trip was about a half hour. The kite festival was at the beach which was an easy walk as well. Best breakfast was at the Morning Star Cafe.

Great getaway spot

Thank you for providing a clean, comfortable and relaxing place for our girls' getaway weekend! Even though the weather was frigid, the area is beautiful and the cottage was snug and warm. A family of deer were nestled in the snow in the woods outside the kitchen window. We enjoyed some local shopping and food and a great weekend.

Happy Anniversary Weekend

Beautiful home, fabulous location. We spent our anniversary here and were delighted to find out the intersection of "Honeymoon Hill" & "Lover's Lane" is right around the corner. Great walks on the beach in both stormy and sunny weather. We've previously spent time on the Grand Haven beaches but never got to explore (and shop) the lovely downtown area, so it was a great time of year to do that.

beautiful and comfortable.

A perfect place for six of our 17person family reunion, especially for the kids. The swing and hammock were great hits for them. Adults appreciated the tasteful environment and especially Honore's art collection. My architect husband praised the layout which was especially accomodating for large meal gatherings.

perfectly furnished.

The cottage is beautifully situated on a quiet wooded sand dune lot with a filtered view of Lake Michigan. Its three bedrooms and three baths fit our needs perfectly. The kitchen is fully stocked and the living area comfortable. We enjoyed the porches and fire pit at night. My forty-something daughters and my husband and I hope to return.

Great Vacation Cottage

Very nice cottage. It's newly remodeled, very clean with modern appliances. Within walking distance to downtown and even closer to the beach. (lots of steps though) The cottage is fully equipped with all of the comforts of home. Even wifi! Great communication received from the owner as well.

Beautiful, cozy home.

We very much enjoyed our short 3 day visit to your incredibly immaculate home. I can't imagine needing anything as everything was supplied with a well appointed kitchen. We really loved the location as we could walk to the beach (down 58 steps-- and up), walk downtown, etc. Would love to visit in the summer. Thank you.

Great House With a Great Location On The Dune

This is my second time renting this house and have to say this is a great place to stay in Grand Haven. It has a great open floorplan for gathering and relaxing after the days’ activities. It is very comfortable and includes all the needed amenities. Its scenic location is at the top of a dune and just a quick walk down steps to the beach and just a couple of miles from downtown Grand Haven. Honore, the owner is very responsive and great to work with. In Grand Haven this is the place I will always rent.

Wonderful Place to Stay

While the weather did not cooperate for our weekend get away to Grand Haven, our stay at this property was wonderful. It had everything we needed. It was great to have a washer and dryer for our wet clothes. We were able to watch the waves on Lake Michigan from the windows on the main floor and in the master bedroom. Most of our time was spent playing board games at the large dining room table or reading on the comfy sectional. My daughters and my wife said they definitely want to come back and stay here again.

Perfect house and location

The location was excellent. A quick walk to the city beach which we found to be a less crowded, family friendly beach. It was great to be able to see the water from some parts of the house and we LOVED sleeping with the windows open to the sound of the lake. The house itself was fabulous. You could tell it was recently redone but it was still comfortable like a beach house should be. It was the perfect size for my husband and me, our daughter and my parents. Everything was bright and airy and there were plenty of pots, pans and dishes. The beach umbrellas and chairs were great. The only surprise was no beach towels. I guess I missed that or just assumed there would be some. Fortunately we had brought ours to be extras otherwise that would have been annoying to have to buy beach towels on our trip. We would definitely stay here again and hope to do so next year or the year after!

Great spot for a lake trip

Overall, great spot for a lake trip! Pros - Honore was very responsive with communicating on specifics with the property and area, and met us upon arrival to walk through the house and gave some recommendations. Home was well appointed, and beautifully decorated. Had tons of extras provided (grill, fire pit, cooking utensils, beach items). Pretty quiet / private area and street for being so close to the beach and a short drive / bike / walk to “town”. Beautiful views, especially from master bedroom balcony. Overall, too many to list! Improvements - To be fair, she recently moved back in the home full time, which changed the home layout some, which wasn’t a huge deal but would have been nice to have known sooner. Also, her home has a lot of artwork in it, which was beautiful, but was somewhat nerve racking with 2 small children. Home seemed to be on a bigger hill than expected, so we had to drive my mom down to the parking lot daily, but I probably just didn’t read the reviews / property info enough. Overall, would still highly recommend, just want to be fair with the pros and cons!

Idyllic location -- Like a tree house on top of the dunes

We loved our week’s stay in this comfortable beach house situated in a unique location atop the first dunes above the Lake. The hillside is lush with trees and with all the windows open, we enjoyed the cool breeze rustling the leaves and cooling the house. The beach is close by and accessible by a few flights of stairs. (Or a quick drive and easy parking at the City Beach if hauling beach equipment.) Note: There are enough stairs to be a challenge for anyone with mobility concerns. A bonus was the discovery of the historic boardwalks through the adjacent Hillside neighborhood. In addition to the great location, the best aspects of this house are its open layout indoors and generous deck outdoors. We appreciated the many art pieces and ceramics throughout the house that made it feel like a welcoming home. The exceptionally well-furnished kitchen is roomy enough for a handful of cooks to be prepping at once. The large tables were perfect for our group to dine together indoors or out, or play card games. I wish I could give this property 4 ½ stars – because it really could be a 5. There were a few maintenance items needing attention. Additionally, all five of us (adults) found the beds to be too soft or sagging for the best sleep. That said, we’d happily stay here if we return to Grand Haven.

About the host

Hosted by Honore Lee

Host profile image
I am fortunate to claim Grand Haven as my hometown. This is a beautiful lake-shore community where family and friends reside and gather year-round. I have enjoyed sharing my dune-side retreat with visitors from near and far since 2009, when the house was rebuilt and fully furnished. After a 2 year hiatus from the rental business, I am now back at it and looking forward to guests!

Why they chose this property

This property has been in my family for over 100 years. The original home was a small, single-story cottage with a wide front porch on a sandy dune. While the dune is still sandy, the home not be maintained as it was, and so we tore it down and re-built on the same site. It now is oriented toward the lake, with a full second floor and an open plan on the main level. I love it here, and to share the lake breezes and comfortable setting with travelers.

What makes this property unique

Grand Haven can be a bustling town in the summer, and we feel that our dune-side location offers privacy and relaxation while still within walking distance of the action. In addition, the beach is expansive and inviting, just a downhill walk away! A favorite sunset viewing spot is at the top of the public staircase, "Weber's Stairs"-- grab a drink and join in for a toast to the day!
