Safety comes first - whether it is our family or yours. I had the pleasure of growing up swimming, fishing, water-skiing, jet-skiing, cliff-jumping and tubing these lakes, but some are new to this part of the country. With that, I hope these brief details about the lake might give some helpful insights on how to make your next stay the best it can be.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tim’s Ford Lake is a reservoir created by the Tennessee Valley Authority to power rural Tennessee with affordable hydro-electricity. (www.tva.com/energy/our-power-system/hydroelectric/tims-ford) Developed as part of the New Deal, the TVA system includes a series of reservoirs, which you can learn tons of interesting details about on the TVA website. In the 1960s, TVA flooded the Elk River valley to form Tim’s Ford Lake, which runs about 150 feet deep. This clip from George Clooney’s Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhAixFFJrVk) offers a vivid depiction of what that might have been like. See also tnmuseum.org/junior-curators/posts/underwater-ghost-towns-of-tennessee.

As a result of its formation, the vast majority of the lakehouses on TVA lakes, like Tim’s Ford, are not lakeside, as you might see in other states. Most TVA lakehomes are built on hilltops or hillsides along steep shorelines, which means, while you have an amazing view of gorgeous lakes, you must go down the hill to access the lake. Our home is no exception.

We purchased this lakehouse in particular, because its lake accessibility was so much easier than any lakehouse we looked at in our search, or even any lakehouse we have rented over the last 40 years at various lakes in the TVA system. The lakehouse does not have a steep windy driveway, it does not have 6-8 flights of stairs, and it doesn’t have a treacherous path with rocky dropoffs. But it does have a gravel path, with a steep section for about 20 feet, with the detour of a short walking trail and bridge, each being about a two-minute walk from dock to the back deck.

To make the stroll through the wooded path even easier, our guests are welcome to use the two large carts in the garage to haul towels and toys to the lake. Another option is to access the lake at the community boat ramp just around the corner a couple blocks by land and by water, especially if your group has lots of gear and coolers to load onto your boat, or has guests with special physical needs who are unable to walk down the trail. If these options do not work for your group, then we wish you all the luck in finding a lakehome that best fits your needs.

A great place to gather!

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our time here! It was a spacious and comfortable place to gather family from several states and the kids and adults, alike, had a blast swimming around the dock. The host was very communicative and generous with the outdoor water items. Thank you, Kristin, for a wonderful stay!

Great guys trip get away.

Rented this property for my husbands 30th birthday guys trip. They had an absolute blast, loved the location, and the house itself. It would have also been great for a family trip. Plenty of space and great sleeping arrangements.

Exceeded Our Expectations

We found the house to be sufficiently sized and very comfortable for our 14 person-4 generations group. The view overlooking the Lake as well as daily deer viewings were icing on an already outstanding vacation destination.

Great Family House

This was our fist big family vacation since COVID. We LOVED the house. It had more than enough space for 3 generations, teens their parents and grandparents. The house was clean and stocked with everything we need to cook and enjoy the week. We had a great week and highly reccomend the property!

Ladies retreat

We have a wonderful time!! The home was perfect for our plans. The home was equipped with all the necessary items needed to cook, enjoy the hot tub and just relax. It was a peaceful sitting as we enjoyed watching the deer wander in the yard. We are thankful this place was available for us to have our small ladies retreat. May blessings rest upon this home and the owners of this home.

Great for Family reunion.

Spacious with a beautiful view. Great dining area. The online description is vague about the Bedroom & Bathrooms. Although there are 3 BRs on the main floor, there is only one full bath, and it is in the Master BR. For people without mobility issues that would not be a problem.

Family Lake Vacation

My extended family ages 12 to 72 really enjoyed this house and the lake setting. The property sits in a cove where we felt safe to swim, paddle board and kayak. We also rented a pontoon boat and having our own dock was very convenient. The lake views were stunning. We cooked or grilled most of our meals in the nicely supplied kitchen and loved eating together at the huge dining table.

Beautiful spacious home

This house is perfect for large groups. The “big” kids got the main floor, and the “little” kids took over the basement. We loved having our own spaces. Plenty of room for everyone, and a short walk down to the lake. That walk is not for the weak, lol.. But they do have an extra walkway to help with the steepness. We loved our lake time here!

Beautiful lake home

We absolutely loved our stay in this home. Location was great and the house was great. The trail down to the lake was a little unsafe. We had many people fall. I would recommend putting in a pavement like the other homes. Other than that it was very relaxing and well enjoyed! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Framily Yearly Reunion

We are a large group of friends that live all over the country that rent a house for week every year to get together. It was a great house, and the host was wonderful. Our only caution is the lake is not accessible from the house if you are not younger or in good shape, the hill is steep and the rocks are very slippery, so not all of our party could navigate to it unfortunately.

Book the house!!!

Beautiful lake side home that was perfect for our extended family vacation! We would highly recommend! The house is very spacious with a lot of area to spread out and a gorgeous view of the lake. The path down to the lake is steep, like most of the houses in the area, but you walk through a shaded area and they’ve added a cut back to make it easier. The kitchen is well equipped and the dining area actually fits the number of people who can sleep in the house. The owners are also highly responsive when we had a minor issue. 100% satisfied and loved our stay

Gorgeous views in a huge but quaint lakehouse

This was perfect for hosting our whole family for our daughter's fall wedding. The house perfectly met our needs for accommodations for 12 adults and 3 kids. The rooms were cute and the lake views were spectacular. The home clean and comfortable with plenty of seating for family meals and sitting outside hanging out. The kitchen was well stocked with enough glasses and dishes for all. The availability of the grill was wonderful however it did have food remnants from previous guests. We were still able to use it after a little cleaning. The deer and other wildlife were a joy to watch. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we would definitely stay here again if we ever need large accomidations again in Tennessee!

Enjoyed a casual stay for the hale & hearty

There are so many positives about this VRBO: great big dining room table makes big group mealtimes extra special, nice upper & lower decks, lovely hot tub, beautiful view, plenty of bunk beds & pack n plays too, fireplace on deck for s’mores, plenty of life vests for water sports- in a variety of sizes- available in the garage, extra fridge in basement was great for keeping all our beverages cold. Fun area around the dock & great swimming but there are some things that IMHO need attention so felt I needed to knock off a star to be fair to future customers. I’ve communicated these things privately to the host, who was great to work with, & communicated with us quickly, when needed, throughout our stay. Several others commented on the steep & slippery path to the dock… the bridge helps but I would agree it needs more cross ties, steps &/or paving, etc similar to surrounding homes. It is a nice, rustic-casual place for multiple families & we very much enjoyed our stay. Bonus: It is just a short walk to the community dock where the neighborhood HOA sponsors fireworks on 7/4. We had front row seats to A fantastic show - we were really impressed!

Teresa- host Ladies Prayer Group

This was our second time at this location We did have an issue that could not of be prevented, but as soon as we contacted the owner she was very helpful and did all she could do. She has offered our group a 10% discount if we decide to return. We do plan to return in the fall. The home is beautiful and is kept very clean. The view of lake is nice and you may see many deer roaming in the back yard. The area is very quiet, and nestled in a secure neighborhood. We felt save! I would recommend this home to anyone wanting to get away. I do want to reiterate the owner had no control over the issue we had! Once we contacted her she was by our side trying to assist us and helping us enjoy our stay. She was very polite. We thank her for all her hospitality and offering us a 10% discount on our next visit.
