Peace and quiet but thirty minutes to everywhere, Highlands,Cashiers and Franklin . Only fifteen minutes to one of the prettiest lakes on the planet. Thorpe reservoir better known as Grenville lake has great fishing and Mountain View’s , waterfalls and creeks flowing into it. Pontoon boat are available to be rented on this lake. The home is very isolated up a very long gravel state maintained road,so don’t drive your corvette or Lamborghini, it will drag bottom(you do not need 4 wheel drive). If you are looking for a relaxing quiet place to unwind and still be close to all the the most beauty places to go in the mountains of North Carolina. This is the spot for you.The side porch over looks a pretty fish pond, with a noisy creek running into it. Hand feed our pet miniature cow lily and her calf daisy. Set around the fire pit and listen to the creek flowing into the pond below. Serenity best describes this beautiful place. There is a free standing fireplace in the home with a electric fireplace that gives a cozy atmosphere inside. Home is at almost 4000 feet elevation and temperature almost never gets warmer than 78 degrees on the covered porches. Porch has a charcoal grill and there is amply fire wood for your evening fire pit memory making times. Experience the amazing star filled nights. There no street lights on this property to interrupt with star viewing.

Fall is a wonderful time in the mountains, which are alive with color! Location is remote, but peaceful. The house was immaculate and so full of character. Have stayed here before and would definitely stay again.
We loved everything about Serenity. The house was immaculate and the quietness of the location was just what we needed. The house was well stocked with everything we needed and we loved sitting outside and listening to the leaves fall. We will definitely stay there again the next time we visit the area.
Due to an unfortunate injury to our pet prior to our trip, we only stayed 2 days. The house is definitely remote. The gravel road in is narrow but well maintained. The house was clean. The layout was okay. Wish we had been able to stay and get a better feel for the place. If you are looking for a place way back in the mountains, this will fit the bill.
This was our 4th or 5th time we have stayed at Serenity. That probably tells you how highly I recommend, and what I think about the Holt's properties. Sitting on the deck and listening to wind through the trees is serenity indeed. Walking the property and feeding cows Daisy and Tulip in the cool mountain air is a very relaxing experience. Thanks, Bob and Brenda. We will be back.
If peace and quiet in a VERY remote location is what you are looking for, then this place is for you! If relaxing on the porch is something you like, then this place is for you! If you don't want to be bothered by people, then this place is for you! If you like listening to night sounds through the open windows, then this place is for you! If you are afraid to drive on narrow, gravel, mountain roads, then you need to stay home. "Here at Serenity" is only a few miles from town, but it takes 30 minutes to get there. The house has so much character in every nook and cranny, and it was clean and comfortable. There are miniature cows on the property that will eat out of your hand. (The owner leaves a bucket of feed for you). I would not hesitate to stay at this location again.
The property was very clean and comfortable. The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful. The only problem for us was no cell service, however there is a landline phone which was great. We own a business and need to be in contact with our employees when we are away on vacation. So the landline phone solved that issue. We had a very relaxing vacation at this home.
We enjoyed our stay in this cabin located in the country. They give you cow feed to feed the cows. You shake the bucket and they come!! 😀 House was super clean and hanging out on the porch and enjoying the cooler mountain air was lovely!
My husband and I stayed here recently, and we really enjoyed how quiet and peaceful the property was. We got to feed the mini cows, which was the highlight of my husband's stay. The only negative thing I can say is that the road that the house is on is VERY rocky, steep, and difficult to navigate. Even though we were in my husband's truck, we still had trouble getting to and from the house. Overall, we would recommend staying here.
Can't wait to go back again. Peaceful, nothing but the birds singing, wind through the trees, and occasional moo from Lily or one of the other cows...Paul, Daytona Beach, Fl.
Very nice place and we enjoyed our stay. It is in the mountains and the drive into the property was a little hair raising for us as we were not used to it, but we managed it. phone service was not good for the most part but the internet worked great for us. Recommend the property as a very tranquil and relaxing place to stay
We have rented MANY times…this cabin was by far the cleanest and most well appointed! Check In and check out were PERFECT!!!! The only downside is that it is a bit secluded! You should always enter thru Walnut Creek Road… our car GPS sent us another way coming in and it was really twisty! Once we came out the way Bobby told me it was a breeze! We loved cabin - our puppy loved the cows… plenty of room for our group. TWO NICE bathrooms were certainly a plus!
The home was wonderful. We took advantage of the remote setting to enjoy family and friends. We had a fire in the pit and roasted marshmallows for s'mores. If you want a quiet serene setting in a wonderful home, this is your place. We fed apples to the cows. However, if you want to be close to town, this is not your place. It is about 30 minutes to anything. Now this was great for us. Just wanted you to be aware. We spent the day in Franklin and Highlands. Both are full of shops and restaurants. My wife and I love antiques and thrifting. Franklin had great shops for that. Found many bargains. The local battered women’s thrift in Franklin has lots of great name brand items CHEAP! I would book here again. Almost forgot. Our four legged family loved the location too.
There are a few other houses down in this 'holler' but the nearest groceries are 30 minutes away...Both in Franklin and Cashiers. We loved the location and it was just what we wanted. This is on a farm in the mountains.... the public dirt / gravel road to the house is 1.7 miles long but in good shape for a mountain road. You do hit over 4200 ft going over the mountain. The home is well stocked with kitchen and 'other' items... if anything a bit too much stuff.
Our stay was very relaxing. We needed a place to get away for a few days, and this place did not disappoint. Very good place to chill. The trip up the mountain was a bit long, but that is to be expected when you go to the mountains. This home had everything we needed and more!
We enjoyed our stay at Serenity. This wonderful property is at the top of a mountain and it is very quiet and peaceful. The house was comfortable and had everything we needed; we also enjoyed the large wrap around porch outdoor space. We appreciate that this property is dog friendly, but our dog didn't like the ride up or down the mountain. This was mostly fine as relaxing on the property suited us well. This house is a great value as it can accommodate a family or two couples traveling together.
