About this property

Historic Home on 800 Acre Ranch on Banks of Yellowstone River

The Harrison house is situated about a quarter mile from the river. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Despite its colorful history, it is completely refurbished and offers all of the modern amenities such as telephone, WI-FI, cable, and air conditioning. It has four bedrooms and three baths. With a futon and a non-conforming bedroom, the Harrison House can accommodate 11 people.

Additionally, if you are a large group, you can rent the Lewis and Clark Cabin which sleeps 5 people. So, your total group would be 16 people.

While staying at the Harrison House, you will have complete access to the 800 acre Vermillion Ranch. The ranch is located at the confluence of Sweetgrass Creek and the Yellowstone River, the longest free-flowing river in the U.S. The ranch has over a mile and a half of the Yellowstone River flowing through our ranch, and as a guest, you will have private access to one of North America’s premier trout streams. In addition to the Yellowstone, you are a short drive from the Boulder River and the Stillwater River, as well as a seemingly endless supply of small mountain streams and lakes.

The ranch consists of 800 acres of agricultural lands and river bottom and is populated with robust populations of deer, pheasants, geese, ducks, and Sandhill Cranes. Our family has owned the ranch since 1971. We have protected the ranch through a conservation easement with the Montana Land Reliance. It is a great example of agriculture providing wonderful habitat for fish and wildlife.

As a guest of the Vermillion Ranch, you will have access to the best wildlife and fishing Montana has to offer. Like most ranches, life on the ranch moves at your own pace and provides a relaxing refuge from the hectic, outside world. Days are filled with fishing, hiking, horseback riding, or just relaxing. If you are looking for an off-the-beaten-path escape, the Vermillion Ranch is the perfect home base for a Montana Vacation.

Amazing Mountain Views

Perfect spot for our family celebration. Plenty of space to spread out. The basement was more than we asked for with 2 bedrooms and a tv area. The well stocked kitchen had everything we needed for cooking 3 meals a day. The fishing was challenging for out of towners. Would recommend getting a guide if you are fishing the Yellowstone. Overall the place was amazing and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Fishing in Montana

We rented this property for my family, my parents and my brothers family. Eight of us total. We had full intentions of fishing but the flood diverted us to sight see and enjoy the property which is beautiful. The host and his family were nearby and super easy to deal with. We enjoyed our stay!

Perfect place for a peaceful, getaway in the country!

We had a wonderful time staying in the 3 story farm house! We greatly enjoyed the 800 acre ranch which offers several fishing and swimming ponds, Sweetgrass Creek, the Yellowstone River, hiking and biking trails, (two bikes came with home) and lots of deer, turkey and all manner of birds to watch and listen to while hiking/biking or just relaxing under the trees. This is a peaceful and quiet place and we hope to be back in the near future! Dan was very helpful and a pleasure to deal with!

Unique property with a neat Farmhouse

The property is situated in an easy to reach, but somewhat remote part of Montana, that comes closer to the experience of living in much of the West for the length of the your stay! The stay was great for our fishing access and a few area hikes, reasonable drives to bigger cities. but far away from most other toursist overwhelmed activities!

Excellent COVID Getaway

The house was quite charming and spaciious. We were very appreciative of the air conditioning. The house and area were perfect for a remote getaway during COVID. The house contained everything you could want. This property is typically used for fishing getaways organized through the owner's travel company and that is why it has a low profile on VRBO. With COVID the fishing trips have been cancelled. We were grateful to get the change to stay there.

One fine spot!

This is a wonderful, very comfortable house with everything one needs for a fine family vacation. The house itself has a rich history and has been modernized to have air conditioning, wifi, dish washer and laundry on site. The showers are fantastic! We were a large group gathered for a big family gathering and had a glorious time floating the river, fly fishing, swimming, painting, hiking, bird watching(owls nesting right nearby!), and moon gazing. There's a pond to swim in and very scenic. It's private and secluded. Our family is so large that we also rented another cabin on the ranch, which was also very comfortable and equally well outfitted. The owners were more than gracious and seeing that all of our needs were met. They knew all the local sites to see and have very amusing tales to tell, should you be interested. They also are connected with an extraordinary 5 star chef, who cooked all of our meals for us, even tending to those of us who are gluten free vegans. Thumbs up to this vacation spot. I hope I can go back again and again!
