Property was exactly as I envisioned, older home updated to provide all you need for a comfortable stay. Hot tub works! Remote area, but within access to Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob, Monterey and Highland County. House and adjacent property is a birder's paradise, walking the trail through the woods and the driveway itself provides many different birds. I saw a Scarlet Tanager, Turkeys, Vireos, Warblers, etc. Also saw a box turtle (rare sighting these days!). Absolutely no noise or light pollution at night. Heard a barred owl and coyotes.
Thank you for allowing us to stay at your vacation home. It was a wonderful base during the Highland County Maple Festival. We plan on coming back in a few years and hope to stay here again. We appreciate that the house was dog friendly and all the amenities.
The hosts are amazing and the property always is fantastic. Always clean, quiet, beautiful. We enjoy staying every time and we recommend highly to anyone looking to have a relaxing getaway.
We had another fantastic visit in the mountains of West Virginia and Monterey VA. We had everything we could have ever imagined needing for a special family get together. We were so comfortable with plenty of room and comfortable beds.
We enjoyed the hot tub on a rainy afternoon - sat back and watched the deer with their fawns and hawks too - so relaxing and calming.
Hope to return soon!
Clean, well equipped, one mile off highway up a skinny mountain road, but accessible by normal car. Shop before you get there as Franklin is 15 miles away. Walking trails all around, but they are somewhat difficult. Glad we stayed there.
Annual weekend away with the girls for our mothers day weekend!! The house and property are amazing!! The host thought of everything to make our stay wonderful!!
What a treat! Our family had a wonderful stay at Balm of Gilead. A magnificent setting with a stream running right out front and mountain view. We were so comfortable with plenty of room and everything you could imagine you might need. Wonderful area to hike or just sit on the porch and the hot rub was nice too. We hope to return before too long and again next year for the Maple Festival!
The beauty and serenity of the home location could not be any better. The owner has made it very home-like with comfortable furnishings, lovely fall decorations and immaculate cleanliness. It truly is a place where one can find peace and solitude.
Beautiful property, well-stocked house, and functional amenities are all a part of this listing. My friends and I enjoyed a quiet weekend trip to see all the fall colors and really enjoyed the walking trails and the nearby quaint towns. It ended up raining quite a bit with the cold front that came through, so instead of the fire pit we used the hot tub quite a bit since it's under cover. It was a lovely time on the whole!
This home was fantastic. The views are awesome, it’s quiet and private, but close enough to sightsee around the area. We enjoyed the porches, the hot tub, the fire pit. Family was 18-79 and all found something to enjoy. Nicole is responsive with any questions. Definitely hope to go back!
This place has become our new favorite rental. If you want to stay deep in the West Virginia forest, without the sound of distant traffic or light pollution, this is the place. The beds were comfortable, the property is surrounded by mountains with trails you can hike/run. Deer approach the front porch to graze in the mornings. We didn't want to leave and actually canceled a few plans to just relax at the farm. Also, so much history in the area. This farm is located 1.8 miles south of Stonewall Jackson's 1862 HQ, where he chased the retreating Union Army to Franklin, after his win at the Battle of McDowell during his Shenandoah Valley Campaign. The Confederate caves still exist approx. 5 miles north on rt22 and can be explored (with permission from the National Spelunking Society that now owns it). If you're interested in seeing the property, caves and the history of Jackson's route through this area, check out my video on my YouTube page "Running Into History". The only thing to be cautious of is the incline after crossing the bridge coming into the property. We took our car instead of my truck and attempted to drive slowly past one of two house near the entrance. We got stuck in the gravel. I had to reverse back onto the bridge and gun it to get up the hill. So if you do not have 4 or all-wheel drive, make sure you get speed on the bridge to get over the short hill. Other than that, our 2-wheel-drive car had no problems on the road in. The nearest house is a half mile away.
The house was so welcoming. The hostess thought of everything! The view was amazing. We gad fun hiking, watching the hummingbirds and wathching the stars at night. Would love to make it a tradition.
Wonderful old farm house in a wonderful setting. Peaceful. The pictures do not do this home justice. Clean!! Super clean! The owners thought of everything. If you are wanting a quiet timevto rejuvenate, this is the place.
We had a wonderful time!
This West Virginia farmhouse did not disappoint. The peace and tranquility of the area was just what we were looking for. The owners are very friendly and suggested several scenic areas to visit. As a school teacher, this was an excellent way to relax and recharge for the upcoming school year. We had deer to watch each evening and enjoyed soaking in the views and in the hot tub! We cooked each evening and the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed.
My boyfriend and I just spent the weekend here and let me tell you - it was everything and some! Nicole was very easy to communicate with. The house was just amazing. I couldn’t of asked for a better place. The pictures do no justice. This place has EVERYTHING you need. Once we arrived we didn’t leave the house until it was time to go. House was super clean, hot tub was very clean and so relaxing. Beds were comfy. Everything was just perfect. We can’t wait to go back!!
