The home was great and the owners were very good with answering all of our questions . We loved the area and couldn’t have asked for a better location.
We loved staying at this property. It was really centrally located to everything we wanted to do (Sailboat ride and downtown Charlevoix, The Landing restaurant, Boyne City, a trip to Mackinac Island etc). The house was very clean, had all the amenities we needed, and had a beautiful yard.
Property and home were both very nice, clean and comfortable. Loved the walking trail and watching the turkeys and deer every morning and at dusk. Close enough to shopping, food & the lake, but plenty of space and privacy at the house. The kitchen was amazingly stocked with everything you could think of!needing!
We truly enjoyed staying in this house. It was in a perfect location to be up north near Charlevoix and Boyne City. We immediately felt welcome and at home The layout is very open and the owner provided everything needed to accommodate our stay. The outside setting is private and park like. We took a short walking trail through the woods in back to enjoy the fresh air and fall colors.
We are looking forward to plan a stay again next year.
The house was clean and spacious. The kids enjoyed seeing all of the animals, walking through the woods, and playing in the large yard. The house is stocked nicely. We had a great time.
My husband and I stayed at Oak one cabin for a week in July for an upcoming wedding. We were pleasantly surprised that the location offered a close boat launch, cute golf course, biking trails, and the bonus ferry and restaurant 2 miles down the road. We will definitely be back and we put this vacation spot at the top of our list
Our expectations were surpassed once we arrived to the property. It was exceptionally clean, quiet, and convenient. The location is perfect, almost equally situated between Charlevoix, Boyne City, and East Jordan. During the day and night it is quiet which allows for calm and relaxed time with family. Check in and out were simple. Communication with the owner was fast and friendly.
We enjoyed a work weekend with a great retreat to this lovely home. The home was clean and well appointed with what you need for your stay! The property was lovely and we took a magical walk in the newly fallen snow it was very pretty!
We stayed for girls weekend and it was the best vrbo in the area we have been to. Great location with Boyne City and Charlevoix near by. The house was very clean and stocked! Spacious and perfect lay out, the perfect gathering spot to be with friends! The yard provided the best place for hiking and snow shoeing, even seen some deer. We really enjoyed this location and plan to be back in the future!
Our family of 3 adults had a relaxing vacation in your home. The house is nicely updated, very clean and organized, plenty of space to spread out and a beautiful backyard / extended property for a walk or an evening BBQ. Thanks!
This home was ideal for our family, including being easy to navigate for a family member using a walker. Being able to park in the garage and the ramp in the garage to get into the house were a big help. Our children enjoyed that the third bedroom now has twin beds instead of a pull-out couch. The home was the most well-appointed of any vacation home we have rented. The owners thought of everything! Convenience to the Ironton Ferry was great. The home was clean and comfortable. We would be glad to stay again!
We had a great time up north and this house was a great location for us. It was clean and a nice layout. The kitchen has everything you need to make your meals. Living room was very comfortable for chilling after a busy day, the reclining chairs were a hit with my kids! We used the fire pit most nights and the setting was lovely. Quiet but also close to towns. They really had everything you could need. Although I never needed to contact Rusty and Jennifer they made it very easy to reach them if necessary. We went to Mackinac Island, Petoskey, Charlevoix and Sleeping Bear Dunes during our stay. Very nice time!
Home and property was pretty and very clean. Everything we needed/wanted was in the kitchen which we really appreciated. The owners communicated quickly. The only issue we had was the sofa bed was very uncomfortable. When I called to find a solution, the owner dropped off a new mattress topper to rectify the problem. My only suggestion to make the rental better would be to toss the sofa bed and put a real bed in the 3rd bedroom. The master bed and second bedroom had comfortable, high quality mattresses.
This home is not only beautiful and well-maintained, but it is well-stocked with all the essentials. We’ve stayed many places all over the world— hotels, inns, and private homes, so we have a broad range of places to compare One Oak to, and we were impressed with it and very happy there. My husband couldn’t stop saying how much he liked the home, and that is out of character for him.
One night, my son and daughter in law and their two young children stayed with me after my husband had gone home. They, too, had nothing but good things to say. We especially enjoyed the theater seating! Also enjoyed a walk in the woods and seeing four deer on the back lawn.
I have no doubt that if we needed something, Rusty and Jennifer Hughes would have responded promptly, but we had all we needed. They are super-duper hosts for anticipating what would make their guests’ stay enjoyable.

We are a local family and business owners that are happy to call Boyne City home. The area has so much to offer visitors and we have done plenty of "staycations" to become more familiar with what families will enjoy while visiting northern Michigan. If you need suggestions on what is happening in the area while you are staying, or need suggestions on places to dine (mostly likely we have tried it!) we are happy to give our recommendations.
Why they chose this property
When we purchased this property in 2021, we fell in love with the peaceful surroundings and the home itself. The gardens are gorgeous and the view in the backyard is so peaceful and relaxing. We live nearby this vacation rental home and will be happy to show any potential renters the home (as long as it is not currently occupied with renters). This is our only vacation rental home that we own in the area, so we put our energy into keeping the yard looking spectacular, the home comfortable and clean.
There is also a walking trail just past the pole barn that loops around the wooded 10 acre property. It's a great walk to unwind after an evening meal or to start your morning with a cup of coffee.
Deer and wild turkeys are frequently spotted in the backyard and occasionally in the evening you will spot a porcupine, raccoon or opossum passing through.
We can easily see ourselves relocating permanently to this vacation home at some point in the future, but we are continuing to enjoy our current home for now.
What makes this property unique
The unique benefits of this vacation home is that it is close enough for everything you would want to do in this area and far enough removed from everything to get the peace and relaxation you would want on a northern Michigan vacation.
