perfectly perfect

First, the hosts. Valda and Chuck seem at one with their property, 25 acres in the beautiful Tennessee woods. A truly wonderful couple, and I am very thankful I had a chance to sit and talk with them a bit. Their love of life, their family and the magic of the forest was magnetic and made it hard to leave. Thank you both for a truly wonderful time, esp important as the stay was to accommodate support for my AT through-hiking wife who I hadn't seen in six weeks. Through hikers seem to have some celebrity out here, so it was cool.A main house and couple cabins are strategically located around the property, taking advantage of the lay of the land to immerse you in history and the serenity of the forest. A wonderful stream cascades 30 feet below the Hideaway, accessible, but it does take a little work. Use the rope and make your life easier. Beautiful property and as we were the only guests, there was plenty of wandering room around the 12 acres on "our side of the road".We enjoyed a very well appointed cabin for two (or four w/ couch), but probably tight for two couples. Has all you need, and the bed, which we both thought felt not so great when we first arrived, was wonderful and we slept very well. Nice size bathroom. The pavilion makes it. A couple hundred square feet of open, yet covered area to enjoy the continual breeze, play games (there's plenty), enjoy a fire or just sit and do nothing. The signs representing places around the world make a real nice touch.

Cozy stay

Wonderful cozy stay. We came for a family wedding in Flag Pond. The host was very accommodating & had great stories about the property & surrounding area. The homemade ice cream and cookies were bonus and greatly appreciated. For a family with 2 small children, this worked well. The outside space was very charming with the old fireplace. Thank you for sharing your lovely space.

Quiet and Relaxing

The Hideaway was perfect! Chuck and Valda have thought of everything! Fully stocked bathroom (even Advil, etc.) and kitchen pantry (oil, seasonings, all the basics - PLUS - to cook a meal), eggs and bagels, homemade ice cream and cookies, ice in the freezer— everything we needed! Side note: the water here is delicious! A fire in the fireplace on the pavilion was perfect in the rain. Sigh… A Christmas movie on the tv with twinkling Christmas tree lights and the sound of rain on the roof—

Anniversary get away

We really enjoyed the 200 year old fireplace surrounded by the autumn colors of the surrounding trees. Our hosts, Chuck and Val, were so welcoming when we arrived. We got a tour and enjoyed hearing some local stories and history of the property. Very comfortable stay with everything one could need. Chuck gave us a tour of the other nifty cabins on their property and Val even made us homemade cookies and strawberry ice cream!

Weekend getaway

Recently stayed at the Holyfield Hideaway and had an excellent time wven with the weather conditions. We stayed the weekend of Hurricane Helene and lost power, internet, cell service and water (well water). Chuck and Val were excellent host kept checking in on us and made sure we had what we needed. We cant wait to visit again when the area recovers from the destruction.

My stay was just what I hoped for! The property was in a perfect location to enjoy abundant hiking opportunities and then come back and relax for a peaceful evening around the historic fireplace. Chuck and Valda are very accommodating and the cabin well stocked with everything I could need. I really appreciated the cleanliness and artful touches. Thank you and I hope to return someday.

This was our favorite short term rental we have ever been to! Super peacful with the sound of a running creek just 100 ft away. The cabins history and surrounding area is a facinating story. The cabin had everything you need to feel comfortable and all kinds of cool knick nacks everywhere you look. You can tell the hosts really put a lot of effort into maintaing the property. A superb value at the listed price, we highly recommend!

Woodland Oasis

Everything about this stay was amazing! Valda and Chuck have truly created a beautiful oasis here, it's such a beautiful location and so peaceful. The sound of the creek running through the property is just so relaxing. It was also the middle of July yet it was so nice and cool. Chuck was happy to share the history of the property and the area, love the old buffalo trail and 200+ year old fireplace is beautiful. It's a great location to explore NE TN and the stunning mountain views, Johnson City is only a 30 minute drive so nice and close. Valda and Chuck are such warm & wonderful hosts from the yummy homemade cookies and ice cream to the wonderful conversations this was my favorite vrbo stay! HIGHLY recommend 10/10 Thank you both for your warm southern hospitality. xoxo Tom & Toya

Enchanting Place

We would like to thank Velda and Chuck for a most delightful stay. The outdoor spaces were so much fun. I had a fire in the 200 yr old chimney most mornings with my coffee. I have been in the hospitality industry for 42 years and these folk know what they are doing. We felt very well taken care of. Sincerely, Mathew, Hiram, and Lily

Fantastic little hideaway

This is a fantastic little hideaway in TN that offers a lot of privacy and peace. You can hear the creek and cannot hear road noise. They are dog friendly and our golden retriever had a blast in the creek. Chuck and Valda are incredibly nice hosts and told us all about the history of the property which was fascinating. The home is a tiny home/studio but has all the essentials. We had a great trip.

Great stay at the perfect getaway!

We had a great time staying at the Hideaway! Early June weather was perfect and the extremely large porch lifestyle was just to our liking. Wifi was fast and strong to stream or catch up on any work emails. Our pups enjoyed the property too with a mix of areas to walk and to roam. Chuck and Vanda were very welcoming and informative and we look forward to booking again and visiting with them in the future!

Gorgeous and a World of Its Own

The stay was absolutely beautiful! It was a perfect blend of nature and society, as we were in gorgeous, vibrant forestry but also had some fellow hikers here and there. The small town (Erwin) nearby was also a nice balance as it wasn’t overcrowded or heavily touristy. The creek outside and down the hill was soothing, and energetic at the same time. The living quarters were warmhearted, well-equipped and very comfortable. We felt like we were at home inside the cabin and out in the pavilion, even being a couple hundred miles away from where we came. Chuck greeted us when we arrived with smiles, great history/ background of the area/the property, and helpful recommendations. We met Valda the following morning on our way to the first destination (Lamar Alexander State Park) with smiles, warmth and a great welcome. If we needed anything, we knew we could ask with ease. Over the three days we were there, we had nothing but amazing views and experiences. We would definitely recommend Valda and Chuck’s hospitality and their beautiful property. The surrounding areas were breathtaking and provided a good range of options for nature-lovers. They have a special spot here to share with those looking for a hideaway to relax in or to excite any of the senses. It is definitely a world of its own!

Absolutely wonderful!

This place is a gem. Overlooking the stream gave us a non-stop feeling of nature. Chuck and Valda are such warm hosts and did everything and more to make us feel welcoe. I know the homemade cookies and ice cream have been mentioned before but they were great. Sitting on the deck the first night with a cup of tea and a cookie by the stream was perfect. Valda and Chuck also pointed us in the direction of so many places to visit while we were there. Lovely cabin with everything we needed. Top stars to the Holyfields and their property.

Loved the Little Woodland Cottage

My son and our two dogs stayed for a few days at this cute little woodland cottage. It was so cozy and lovely. We loved the sound of the creek, the deck was amazing, the bed comfortable and Vanda and Chuck were spectacular. We were greeted with homemade, cookies, peach ice cream, eggs and lots of supplies. Which was truly unexpected and such a perfect treat for us. Our dogs were living their best life running all around the cabin. Would highly recommend, Vanda and Chuck were some of the nicest people I've ever met. I hope we will be able to come back and visit them again!

We were welcomed by Chuck and Valda as soon as we arrived and made to feel like family. The Hideaway is just that. A great place to decompress and enjoy yourself. Needing a break from your crazy everyday life?

If you want a quiet, rustic, relaxing cabin well here it is! The cabin itself was tucked away and completely private with everything a person could want or need to make their stay enjoyable. I do not know what I enjoyed the most between the old chimney fireplace or falling asleep to the sound of the creek. Both were very relaxing. The hosts were warm and very welcoming, almost making you feel like family. I could have sit and talked with them all night. Finding out that our cabin sit on an old buffalo trail and was built around a chimney that was made over 200 years ago was a plus. Also, the cabin is not hard to find. If you follow the directions given to you by the property owners it will take you right to the doorstep of your cabin. Both hosts are open minded and down to earth people who make some yummy pimento cheese and cookies. We will be returning soon!

Amazing time in the mountains

The cabin was great and had amazing views of the creek below. Chuck and Valda were very welcoming and attentive to our needs. They are great people and have many interesting stories about their property's history. As a wheelchair user, I was very impressed with the accessibility inside and outside the cabin. There were some inclines in the mountain terrain around their property, but I was able to get used to it after a few minutes. I actually surprised myself that I was able to get to virtually every part of the property. We brought our dog, and she got to play with Chuck and Valda's dog in the creek - they had a blast. We will definitely be booking again!
