About this property

The Camp Cabin at Darst-Myers Hallstead

If you're looking for an unplugged retreat or family farm adventure, we'd love to share our cabin and farm property with you.

Enjoy petting and feeding our goats and sheep. Interact with free-range chickens. Our hens provide eggs guests may cook for their breakfast; guests bring their own side items to make a complete meal. We also provide complimentary snacks and filtered water in a glass dispenser. There is a small refrigerator/freezer combination in the cabin (dorm sized).

The cabin sleeps up to six guests, who choose to "rough it" with many comforts, including a queen bed, a futon, and two low twin beds in the loft (accessible only by ladder, not for children under 8).

Although there is no running water in the cabin itself, the restroom with shower is a short walk (about 50 yards) inside the basement of our farmhouse, with its own private entrance. This restroom is private to your party during your stay.

All linens are provided.

If no other events are scheduled during your stay, guests have use of the barn gym with "full court" basketball (two hoops, not full regulation sized), air hockey, foosball, playground balls and other fun activities like indoor swings. The climbing wall is off limits to cabin guests.

We do not have a television in the cabin, and this is a purposeful decision. We have a selection of games, books, and puzzles, and there is much to do on the property itself, which features a small pond near the cabin with a paddle boat, kayak and canoe. In winter months, we have sleds available for the hill.

There is a fire pit right outside the cabin and firewood and matches are provided. There is also a charcoal grill for cooking (bring your own charcoal and lighter fluid). Guests are also welcome to use any other fire rings on the property.

Free parking. Guests may drive along a grass/dirt path to park near the cabin (at your own risk) or park in the gravel area near the goat pasture and make the short walk to the cabin. The property is not handicap accessible and may be over uneven terrain. If needed, we can shuttle on our side-by-side ATV if special arrangements are made ahead of time.

The cabin is on the farm property where we live, but guests have their own private space but are also welcome to explore the farm property as desired. We aim to be responsive to your needs before, during, and after your stay so feel free to text us with concerns, needs, or celebrations!

We hope you enjoy your stay.

Cute Cabin - Perfect Getaway

We stayed for a few nights and it was so peaceful. The heater kept us warm on the cold nights and the place was clean enough our 8 month old could crawl around on the floor with no worries or hazards! We loved it and the communication was great from the property owners! We absolutely recommend the property if you are looking for a relaxing rustic getaway!

Simply fantastic!

Perfect little getaway that gives you the cabin feel while still being near stores and such. Stayed for 2 nights but wanted to stay longer! Check in was easy. Since it was good weather we were able to park right in front of the cabin. The fire pit was great (we grilled vegetarian sausage and s'mores over the fire)! The hosts were easy to get a hold of if needed. Bathroom facility, while in the basement of the main house, is close, easy to get to, and great! The sheep, goat, and chickens (and super-friendly cats!) only added to the fun. We do plan to go back so just don't book on the days we want :) . 5 stars all the way!

Adorable & peaceful little hideaway!

For someone who likes their amenities and doesn't necessarily love to "rough it", this cabin did not disappoint. Donna was very responsive with my questions, which was nice being I booked last minute. My 14 yo daughter loved reading all the journal entries from past guests, and had fun hunting for a couple hidden things :-) The provided eggs were perfect, for someone who eats them every morning religiously, and didn't have time to go get breakfast before we had to get to where we were going. Very much appreciated that and the fresh water. My only complaint, is that I didn't quite realize while reading the listing, that the bathroom to be used in the basement, was not a part of the cabin, but a short walk to the host's main home. But the charming atmosphere made up for it, for sure. Thanks for a great stay!

Cabin not accessible in bad weather

Ice everywhere dangerous conditions to drive on, not suitable for anyone disabled or sick or with infant if the weather is bad. There was ice all over our suv kept slipping all over the place close to a pond.and when I told the host she said walk to the cabin, I told her I didn't feel safe carrying my infant on the ice and cold that distance and she didn't even offer a partial refund. Since we did not stay. All she said was sorry the ice has been hard to contend with. I'm a top Google guide in the area and I don't recommend this cabin in winter at all.

Coziest stay we've had to date

My wife and I loved the time we spent in this cabin. It was perfect in the winter, with some snow on the ground. Very scenic. It was well stocked with nice blankets, and the heater did a good job of warming it up after it had been on for a good while. You do have to walk to a separate building for the bathroom, but it's not too far at all.Among its best features are that only is there no wifi and no TV in the cabin, but also that it's cozy and homey enough to make you not want it in the first place. We brought a laptop to possibly watch a movie on, but when we arrived, didn't want to. The cabin itself instead encouraged us to spend our time reading to one another. We look forward to hopefully coming back to stay again with our kids next time. They'll love it.

2nd Visit, Perfect little cabin!!!

I love this cabin! And the hosts are great. They respond right away to all questions, and provide everything you need for a cozy stay. The cabin is clean, well appointed, and cozy with a gas fire stove for winter and fans and air-cooler for summer. The property is very nice with a large fire pit on the edge of the small lake with kyaks and trampoline. My daughter (10) and I love it. I have stayed here twice and both visits were fantastic. The bathroom/shower is very nice and just a few steps from the cabin. So reasonable, peaceful, but plenty to do. My daughter loves feeding the goats and visiting the chickens. The cat Shiloh befriended us, too!

Wedding Weekend

A family with six members from three generations, as well as a 4-legged furry one, needed a pet-friendly rental when traveling to the area for a wedding. This log cabin was perfect. The granddaughter who loves playing "pioneer days" was ecstatic about its rustic appearance. That does not mean, however, that it lacked any amenities that were needed by the rest of the group. Everything was well-provided and much appreciated. The outdoor play areas were great too. We enjoyed our stay very much!

Perfect!

I had some family matters to attend to in Canton and ended up traveling alone with my 4 kids (two 12 year olds and two 10 year olds). This place was perfect! The atmosphere was comfortable and safe. A great place to come back to and unwind. The kids want to stay here every time we visit from now on! The amenities, the environment, the cleanliness, the privacy, everything was amazing. 12/10 recommend!!

We are Donna and Gary Hall, and we live on-site in the farmhouse. This farm has been in the Myers family since 1934 so there's a rich family history here. Donna has lived here since 1990. Our great niece and nephew are the sixth generation to grow up here. We value family-- ours and yours, and the amenities and activities for your farm stay have been designed with families in mind. We hope you enjoy your stay.

Why they chose this property

We find joy in sharing our property with others. We love the laughter of children as they discover new things. The Camp Cabin was built in 2006 for youth and family activities, but we are empty nesters, and it was sitting empty, until a friend urged me to rent it out. We've been offering the cabin for short term rental for a number of years now. When you come, read others' stories in our Camp Cabin Journal, and write your own story as well. Your story matters!

What makes this property unique

Overwhelmingly, the number one adjective guests leave in our book is: PEACEFUL. This place has a peace about it that is hard to describe unless you experience it yourself. We hope you will visit soon.
