This was the perfect cozy cabin for our winter vacation. It is perfect if you love a private peaceful scene in the woods. About 30 minutes from towns. Very comfortable, and the Mary is incredibly responsive and helpful. We went to towns, ice fishing on the private lake, had ourselves a day catching so many perch, and relaxed by the fire inside. Highly recommend if you like the quietness of the woods and being outdoors as lots of trails and hikes to do as well!
Ces vacances ont été idylliques merci beaucoup tout a été parfait , on avait tous les produits de première nécessité à disposition et l'accès au lac est juste sublime avec les bateaux canoë et autres, je remercierai jamais assez pour ce séjour merci beaucoup
This was our second year vacationing at this cabin, and we absolutely love it! The perfect place to disconnect from reality and enjoy nature. The lake is beautiful, and they offer a variety of boats and floats to enjoy it. Love that our dogs can come along and enjoy it as well. They love it! Looking forward to more visits in the future! Thank you
Everything about this place was perfect my only gripe is it rained 4 days and was cold. Otherwise would have been a perfect vaca
Driveway is a little steep had a little bit of a hard
Time going up it but managed. Wish I knew how far away gas station was could have been in trouble not knowing. Cabin was very clean and rustic. Loved it!!
This was our third vacation at Mary's wonderful rustic camp. It has everything we want or need. The water area is extremely nice and very private. We spent most of our days fishing, kayaking, having campfires and relaxing by the water. The camp beds are comfortable and everyone slept very good. Having a washer and dryer is a wonderful plus with small children. The only thing we can suggest is possibly placing some solar lights along the driveway. When we walked back to the cabin at night it was very dark and there are no lights to guide the way. Everything else is just right. We are planning to spend another vacation there next summer.
Thank you for having a place for my family to make memories.
We enjoyed our stay at the rental. The house was nice and private with views through the trees of Bass Lake. The house was as advertised. The bedrooms had plenty of storage and space. The waterfront was secluded and a great place to spend the day on the lake enjoying the gazebo and fire pit. The kitchen had plenty of pans and the Keurig was great. Only suggestion would be to have more dishes and silverware for mealtime.
Great and remote location! Really liked the layout of the cabin, though the outdoor patio and lakeside table were hard to use with the dust. The lake was pretty! It's not swimmable this time of year with the tadpoles.
Had a relaxing and enjoyable time. It was NOT exactly what we had planned but it had nothing to do with the accommodation. We were there four days. It rained off and on for four days.
We had a wonderful time at the cabin. There were plenty of stars to see at night, and the cabin suited are needs well. Check-in and checkout was easy, and we were able to do lots of good hiking near the Lake Placid area. The fireplace was great to come back to in the evenings.
The walls/doors of rooms are pretty thin, so there is not an abundance of privacy. The driveway is gravel up a short, steep road. We got up it in a Toyota Prius fine in the fall, but if there had been snow it would've been harder.
Rustic style cabin in an out-of-the way location perfect for getting back to nature. Very nice pond-side area a short walk down the driveway and across the road (only a few cars/day). Good assortment of kayaks, canoe, paddle board to explore the pond. Owner was very responsive to an issue with the stove that was quickly resolved. No cell service but could make WiFi calls once connected. Would have liked to have had a document listing activities in the area (within 30 minute drive), such as hiking trails, parks, public access points on lakes, etc.
This camp checked all of the boxes for us. Great location allowing us to paddle our Hornbecks on different lakes, almost everyday, short hikes, walking, biking and daily swimming in Bass Lake. Loved the peacefulness and remoteness. After camping kayaking for years, nice to have a comfy bed and a shower. Big fridge, well stocked kitchen, dependable wifi (not robust enough for streaming), screened in porch, many hooks for hanging stuff, and many outlets everywhere. The washer and dryer were great! (Wished the detergent was scent free.) Appreciated the use the garage for our bikes. The location felt very safe for us 2 women. The lake is across the street from the house which I didn't understand until I read the reviews. Just a short walk down the driveway (house is on a hill) and stairs. The pictures are deceiving. Mary was readily available and responsive for questions and concerns. The only criticism is that the camp could use a good cleaning. The shower was really scummy, and the floors could use a hands and knees wash. Baseboards, and surfaces need a good dusting. Also missed a little info booklet about local walks, bike rides, nearest stores, etc. We enjoyed our stay and were grateful we found this camp in a great location!
Cabin was very clean and property was private. We loved how dog friendly it was. Excellent selection of kayaks and other boats. Floating dock could use some work as there are nails sticking out. Would have liked to have one Queen or king bed instead of two twin beds pushed together for couples. Would like a more clear outline of use of Loon lake. Would like better way to contact owner as I sent a message when we got there and it was never answered. If something broke or there was an urgent issue then it would have been a big issue not being able to contact owner. Overall a great Rustic cabin for a quiet week or weekend.
We enjoyed the time we spent here. Did some hiking and adventured into Saranac Lake a couple times. Although the weather wasn’t perfect we relaxed at the lake when we could. Worked on our puzzle and read. It is generally quiet and at night we could hear the loons. It was a great get away to take time out and spend time together.
This camp feels like a cozy, warm and inviting place. We love the size of the rooms and the comfort of the beds. The laundry room is fantastic since we have little ones. The kitchen is well stocked so you only need to bring food. The water area is amazing to say the least. We love fishing off the shore, the amount and variety of boats, the dock to swim to, the gazebo, the firepit and the lawn area for the kids to play. We had a fire every afternoon and evening. We are hooked on Mary's camp and we just booked our summer 2024 third camp stay at this lovely cabin and fantastic water area. It is not modern at all and that is what we love about it. We used to rent a modern camp but it did not feel cozy and it was not comfortable. We found this gem that meets our needs for our family camp trip. The check in and check out are so easy! We are all excited to be there again next year.
The property was was really nice and communication was great, my only complaint is there was a lot of clumps of dog hair everywhere other than that we were very pleased
Our stay here was absolutely wonderful, we ventured on the lake, did some fishing, very , very relaxing, we had our dog with us, and he had a great time, he even met some local dogs and was great experience, (he’s a schnoodle) just wanna say it was a great time, definitely come back again

Rustic Cabin Stay
Easy check in process and very nice property with lake access down the driveway with kayaks/canoe. Cleaning process prior to check in didn't appear to be done well, dirty dishes, heavy dust layer on bedroom floors, and no trash bags. This cabin is truly rustic and will bring you back to the 1960s. Overall a nice stay but could use minor updating and a better cleaning.
What a wonderful weekend we just had at Mary’s. Cozy and comfortable to say the least. With 2 small children I was a little nervous about no TV, but an old fashioned weekend together playing games and having fun was more than we could have asked for. Short trip to Santa’s Village in the North Pole. Perfect. Thank you again for your hospitality!
Nice location, specially enjoyed the private access to the peaceful lake with fire pit, chairs, kayaks, canoe, SUF etc.
The cabin could use a good cleaning.
Communication with owner was easy.

About the host
Hosted by Mary Whitney
Owners include a busy Registered Nurse and Carpenter who have three grown children, grandkids and a whole family of fur friends. The property was originally acquired for a quiet get away outside of how busy life can get. We've been provided such a relaxing safe harbor for our family, and in turn would like to share it with others.
Why they chose this property
A perfect true get-a-way while still being close to main activity destinations. This cabin can be whatever you like it to be. A home away from home in the fresh crisp mountain air and blustering views. Mountain, Lake Therapy while still remaining modest at its core.
