About this property

Beach Front in Magical Cape Rosier

Cape Rosier is a magical place. Under every rock, around every corner, under the sea wonders are to be found. Enjoy the magic of a rocky beach, the sweet blueberries in the field across the way and the sandy beach just a short walk down the road. Whether in the sun or the swirls of fog, Cape Rosier is a magical place.
The chalet is a peaceful retreat to enjoy time away from the bustle of everyday life.
The Cape is located in a beautiful area surrounded by great biking, boating, nature walks and beach exploring. Just down the road you can explore the Holbrook Island Sanctuary where you can take easy hike to see wonderful birds and beautiful lilies in the pond. Visit the 4 seasons organic farm market and the Nearings good life Center. Or just sit by the shore (or inside the cottage) and watch the boats go by- the 4 masted schooners, lobster boats and more. Watch the seals, loons, cormorants and dolphins swim past. This is the cottage that has it all for a great get away.

Most of our guests are repeat customers. Book early to avoid disappointment.

5 stars!

We stayed for a week at this gorgeous property. Rosemary and Buz went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect. Their hospitality is one of a kind and are also some of the kindest people we have met. The beach house is kept in pristine condition and has everything you may need. The views were breathtaking. The cove is quiet and peaceful. Local lobster down the road and Acadia National Park is about a hours drive. The perfect Maine getaway!

Great place, hosts, lots of great places in the area. Perfect place to "get away". The host went out of her way when we arrived very late. We appreciated their great hospitality. Can easily recommend it.

Tranquil paradise

This was our second time staying at the chalet, and there's a reason we returned. Cozy and quiet, it overlooks the Penobscot, nestled among trees. Cape Rosier and this property are magical, embodying all things Maine—wild blueberries, pine forests, and fresh lobsters nearby. A short walk takes you to Bakeman Beach, but we mostly enjoyed our own private cove just steps from the door. Morning coffee there was a dream. Great hiking spots are nearby, and there’s plenty to explore around the area. Buzz and Rosemary are wonderful hosts, and the chalet is both private and beautiful. The entire property is just lovely. It was just the relaxing and rejuvenating trip we needed. We love this magical spot and hope to return for many years to come.

Delightful cottage in wonderful location

The location is lovely and the cottage is terrific. It is amazingly well-equipped, and we had everything we needed. On a hot day, the attic fan did an incredible job of cooling off the cottage. We were so pleased!

A charming chalet with an amazing view of the water. Very clean and comfortable. Plenty of room to lounge indoors or outside. The owners are a delightful couple that made us feel very welcome. Enjoyed getting fresh lobster a short distance away. A wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature.

Quiet Retreat

Chalet was immaculate and perfect size for four of us. Incredible view from the house, loved spending mornings sitting on the big rock and watching porpoises and seabirds. Beautiful property, quiet retreat, well-equipped. Hosts are wonderful, friendly folks. Truly enjoyed every day in Cape Rosier!

Chalet

This is our second year at the Chalet, we love it as it provides everything a small family, interested in what nature provides, could hope for. There are no crowds here, just plenty of rest and relaxation, kayak, swim, pebble beach; this is the place to get away from it all.

Picturesque retreat

My family of 4 and our dog had a wonderful stay at the Chalet. Buz and Rosemary were wonderful hosts, setting up a crib for us in advance and bringing in a high chair for the baby. The view is spectacular, the house super clean and well-appointed and the location is perfect for enjoying and exploring the area. We hope to come back again. Many wonderful memories made here. Thank you Buz and Rosemary!

Perfect for Kayaking!

My wife, daughter and I had an amazing time exploring Cape Rosier by kayak. The wildlife was incredible - with many seal sightings. The Chalet was perfect - very comfortable with amazing views! We love Maine - and the Blue Hill Peninsula did not disappoint. We had a great time exploring all the coastal towns - great art, great food and friendly people. Rosemary and Buz were wonderful hosts!!

Peaceful Relaxatino

My family completely enjoyed our stay. From the surprise visits from the porpoise, bald eagle and fawn. To the amazing view of the ocean. Added to this picturesque location of this property. My sons favorite was sea glass hunting on the rocky beach!

Fabulous experience

The house is gorgeous and the view is amazing. We absolutely adored our stay. The owners were super helpful and accommodating. We were in town from CA to drop our only son off at college, Rosemary knew how this mama would be feeling and brought me hugs and chocolate! Buzz and Rosemary’s kind and welcoming spirits really made our stay at this magical property a dream. We hope to be back again!

Nickerson Chalet

Very impressed. Chalet was very clean. Nice view of the ocean. Saw many sailboats, lobster boats, schooners. We even saw a young eagle fly over one day. We had a great time. The weather was finally nice for the week after a long summer of mostly rain. We are considering going back again next summer.

Our favorite place!

The Chalet is our favorite place to vacation in Maine. Walk 40 feet to sit on the beach and take in some of the most beautiful scenery of Maine and enjoy the dolphins breaking water or the Schooners as they sail by. Take hikes, explore, Kayak, or swim in the crystal clear pristine water of the Penobscot Bay! Situated 25 min from Blue Hill Maine where you can dine out in some great restaurants, shop, and enjoy life. This is our sixth year to stay here, and we have never been disappointed. Buzz and Rosemary (the owners) are some of the nicest people and are close by to assist you if need be. If you are looking for a great place to vacation, look no further, this place is incredible!

Wonderful

We had such a great respite from the daily grind! The cottage was perfect. The setting is amazing...we were able to see seals catching fish, seabirds and the beautiful coast line and islands from the windows and just a few steps outside the front door. We took daily walks down the road to a sandy beach for swimming and beachcombing. It is a nice spot from which to take day trips to Acadia, and local villages. The entire property is lovely and well cared for. The cottage was clean and very comfortable. Probably one of the most comfortable and tidiest cottages we've ever rented. Rosemary and Buzz provide multiple resources for activities, restaurants in the area. They were happy to help us with anything we needed.

Absolutely Perfect

Lewis and Rosemary's property was absolutely perfect. It was wonderful to walk across the lawn and be right on the beach/water. The kitchen was well-outfitted and the house itself very comfortable. We stayed in the upstairs bedroom and had no trouble with the spiral staircase (I'm 60 and my husband is 70). It was peaceful and secluded, but we were able to get to Tinder Hearth in 15 minutes and Bagaduce Lunch in 20 minutes. If you're looking for a beautiful coastal rental in Maine this is perfection! Thank you Rosemary and Lewis for sharing this special property!

Peaceful and beautiful

What an incredible place to spend a week, and Lewis and Rosemary were kind and gracious hosts. There’s nothing quite like waking up and looking out to the morning fog in the bay. We brought two kayaks and rented two more. They were delivered to the property when we arrived. Kayaking in the bay every morning was so peaceful and quiet. We saw seals, porpoises, eagles, cormorants, and sea gulls. I biked throughout the area on some amazing, hilly roads. The chalet was cozy and perfect for our family of four. We took the queen in the loft for the views and light, and our kids split the nook and the downstairs bedroom. We loved our stay at the chalet, and are so happy we had the opportunity to meet the Nickersons and spend such a peaceful week in Maine. We hope to return!

Very nice place

It was a very nice place right on the beach, which is shared with the owners, who live next door. They are extremely nice & helpful. Parking is about 100yard walk from the house, over a boardwalk. They supply a cart (& even helped out with a tractor-wagon) to bring things from the car to the chalet. The place is fairly small (cozy) but well-kept & comfortable. The spiral staircase to the 2nd floor is definitely not for grandma. Just a few minor suggestions: More hooks would be so helpful. It would also be wonderful if they had kayaks to use- the water is beautiful & inviting, but we were apprehensive about getting kayaks (our own or rentals) all the way down to the beach from the parking area. All & all, it was a great launching pad for many area hikes, swims & adventures. Thanks, Lewis & Rosemary!

Magical indeed!

An absolutely beautiful place! If you’re looking for peace, quiet and restoration, then this area is for you. The chalet was as advertised; magical and immaculate. As part of a family compound, it’s location still lends itself to privacy and autonomy. Be forewarned, staying here in the chalet will spoil you and sets very high standards for any stays you have elsewhere. To say it was “immaculate” is no exaggeration. Beautifully decorated and comfortable as well. We only used one bedroom during this stay and were grateful for a firm mattress. They have thought of everything in their amenities; fully equipped kitchen, binoculars, outdoor seat cushions, market umbrellas, Adirondack chairs, lawn chairs, a picnic table and grill and even a luggage rack (so grateful!) Their welcome/info binder was literally the most up-to-date, detailed one that I’ve seen and filled with recommendations and a sprinkling of delightful humor. The kitchen is cozy yet efficient and we cooked most every night using the gas stovetop and outdoor grill. A private beach is directly in front of the chalet. By coastal Maine standards, it is wonderfully accessible in terms launching kayaks (which we didn’t bring this trip, but you can rent.) A midweek storm left us without power for only a couple hours and we didn’t even realize it (until Lewis popped over to check on us) because of their backup battery and generator systems. They even shared their garden onions and lettuce with us! Highly recommend!

About the host

Hosted by Rosemary Nickerson

Host profile image
Great Grandma Dot purchased the one-room log cabin on the three acre lot in 1951. It remains the oldest, original cabin on the Cape. Grandpa Jerry built the chalet in 1985.

Why they chose this property

A sereen setting, immediately accessible to the ocean.

What makes this property unique

It's like going back in time visiting Cape Rosier. We leave the hectic city behind and totally relax. The salty, sea air, the peace and quiet, the bald eagles, passing lobster boats, schooners, tall ships, islands off-shore.....so much to see and experience.
