Need better directions to find cottage

The bed closest to the river needs a new mattress. Hubby & I kept sinking to the middle. Hot tub was dirty so we couldn't use it. Don't advertise it if it can't be used.

Great cabin right on the river!

Could not have asked for a better more scenic stay in the area. Perfect home base if you are going on rafting trips. If you want to get away from it all but still have some basic luxuries this is the place for you! (no internet, TV, cell reception for calls and data but an oven/stove, fridge, microwave, toaster oven, hot tub) The hot tub was great! And our dog loved having river access right in the backyard! The beds were comfortable and when it got cool at night the wood burning stove kept us warm. The only suggestion we would have is adding screens to the doors/windows to allow us to keep some windows or doors open at night. Other than that, it was extactly what we were looking for! We will definitely be back

Great location and AMAZING view

If you're looking for rustic seclusion, this is the place for you! This cottage allows you the privacy and feeling as if you're in the middle of nowhere. You can relax without the every day distractions of the telephone, television or any of the demands of your hectic life. You and your friends, partner, or spouse will thoroughly enjoy the view of the mountain and sky above and the river below. Although Thurmond is a small town worth an even smaller population, it is rich with history if you just take the time to venture out to explore. A great place to start is across the metal bridge at the train depot/welcome center. The staff is very knowledgeable and there are a few items available for purchase. If points of interest with more population are your desire, Bekley and Summersville are a short drive away.

Enjoyable, except limited cooking tools

We throughly enjoyed our stay at this cabin. The location on the river with the mountains in the background is truly beautiful. The hottub on the deck is definitely enjoyable after a long day. Cabin was clean and the water pressure in the shower was commendable. We do have some suggestions for improvement: 1. There were very minimal pots and no pans for cooking. There were actually only three small pots, and no pans, particularly to make pancakes or scrambled eggs. Could also use a cookie sheet and baking pans. 2. There was no can opener, and we had to use our swiss army knife to awkwardly cut open our can. 3. The small toaster oven didn't seem to operate well. 4. The outside gas grill is rusty and falling apart. The area beneath the grill is worn away, and so we were only able to get the temp inside to just about 350 degrees. Overall, a nice cabin. The location is convenient to numerous activities, although be careful on that road at night. There are no stores within walking distance.

Wonderful but no frills

I lodged at this cabin about a year ago but just decided to write a review now because of the only review posted so far. This place was absolutely perfect for us. It has a beautiful view of the new river, lots of hiking trails within walking distance from the cabin, and a whole ghost town to explore! The hot tub on the back deck is by far the best part. There is nothing better than grilling steak while soaking in the hot tub after a full day of rafting! However, this place is not for all. This place is not for someone who is looking to be close to town or to mainly stay in the cabin. The cabin was very small and outdated but clean. The staff was very helpful and accomodating to our needs. We even decided to stay an extra night! I couldn't have asked for a better mini-vacation. I will definitely stay here again.

2/10 Terrible

Looks are Deceiving!

We were not impressed with this cabin at all. The pictures look much nicer than what we found when we got there. It had been "tidied up" but not cleaned. I lifed the toilet seat and found urine underneath. The floors had not been swept. All of the furniture, except the beds, had pet hair on them. We rented it for two nights and left first thing in the morning after the first night. Unless you want to raft on the river, there is absolutely NOTHING to do there. The only positive thing was the hot tub on the back deck and the view of the New River. However, if you enjoy bees and bugs and being as far from civiliation as possible, this place is for you! And take your own drinking water if you go.
