A special location
This was a real find if you are looking for peace and a cosy historic family home. Arlene was brilliant at corresponding with us especially when there was freak weather and loss of power due to winds and snow in April the week before we arrived. Luckily the power returned and Arlene greeted us warmly and it was lovely to hear about all the family history at Lake House. We arrived in sun and left in sun and we highly recommend it and would love to return. Jim and Joann next door are lovely to help if needed. A great location to explore in all directions.

Spring Break
Great experience. We are from the South and wanted to chase some of the colder weather. This place was a great jumping off point to so many surrounding areas. The house is old and charming and boasted plenty of room for us all to spread out. Loved the children's playroom. Such a bonus to have a room filled with toys, books, movies that they can get lost in.

Great Relaxing Stay
Arlene and the property manager were great! Big kitchen for cooking and has everything. The bedrooms were spacious with comfortable king beds. The pond was great for fishing, kayaking, and canoeing. Wish we had more time to fish, but we were on the go almost everyday.

Fantastic lakeside foliage
We enjoyed our stay at the Lake House Columbus Day weekend. Gorgeous foliage, fire pit chats, hikes on Piscataway State Park. Home was cozy, lots of blankets, kitchen utensils, good hot water for 6 adults. Quiet and peaceful getaway and gracious hosts and caretakers!

60th Birthday friends getaway
Beautiful property with its own beach, kayak, canoe, paddleboat! Arlene the owner could not have been more helpful, and Jim and JoAnn, the caretakers of the property were fabulous and very attentive as they told us what was in the area, and even helped us gather wood for the firepit! The home was clean (thank you Dakota!) and lovely, super comfy beds and luxury pillows, and the greenhouse room was a lovely spot to gather for morning coffee before we headed to water. Would come back in a heartbeat!!

Lake View
The people I was in contact with were great, house was ready early which was great that they let us in earlier. I will say the price was high. The lake was great to sit next to. If you plan on just being at the house to enjoy the lake then the house is for you. The house seemed to not be in working ready condition when it came to the lights, more then half the light bulbs were out so the house was very dark, and you couldn’t find light switches for half of them either. The mold in the upstairs shower ceiling was a little alarming, but it’s an old house so it’s to be expected.

Could not have asked for better!!
We could not have asked for a better experience! Arlene and Jim were so incredibly nice and helpful!! The little touches all around the house really made us feel at home! Very spacious and perfect for hosting family dinner and just to relax! The rooms are huge and beds are comfortable. We ended up getting snow so we didn’t use the fire pit or the lake, but definitely next time! There’s a wonderful playroom perfect for kids and adults as well!! Arlene even spruced it up with lights and Christmas decor. The house, may be older, but it is so beautiful!! Oh and the greenhouse is just stunning!! Cannot say enough wonderful things about Arlene’s home!! We are super impressed and would 1000% book again!!

Loving the life on a lake
If you want to spend a few days relaxing by a small beautiful lake, this is the place to go. We went swimming, canoeing, rowboating and caught a few sunfish. Nice sand beach. Drove to Portsmouth for a worthwhile half day visit and lunch at the port. House is comfortable with quaint rustic touches, good shower and mattresses. Dinner at Dante's 20 minutes away was excellent.

Lakeside Bliss
We had a wonderful time at The Lake House, whose spacious back yard and relaxing private beach allowed us to fully enjoy the perfect weather we experienced during our week there. Lucas Pond is a treasure for those who enjoy swimming, fishing, and non-motorized boating (as we do). The private beach is paired with a private cove, making for the perfect environment for relaxing, swimming, fishing, or enjoying a fire. Really excellent time!

Great lakefront vacation!
We were two families with 4 children under the age of 3 and this was the perfect set up! We could be on our own private beach with baby monitors while the babies napped, we had a full kitchen for food preparation, let the toddlers loose in the toy room and enjoyed some cocktails in the relaxing greenhouse after the little ones went to bed. Lots of toys, boats, lounge areas and a fire pit for quintessential New England activities. We also really appreciated the host's flexibility on check-in and check-out times to accommodate our situation. Definitely recommend! To clarify for future renters as we were a little surprised: The house is actually more of a duplex with a family living on one side. They were very friendly and didn't negatively interfere with our experience in any way, but it was just a little surprising since we had thought there would be only 1 other person (cleaner) max on the property during our stay.

Cozy Retreat
The whole property was amazing. The large sweeping lawn and fruit trees. There were plenty of areas to relax in, the greenhouse, the patio, and the nice little cove with a swing and hammock. The beach was perfect for my granddaughters who are 3 and 1.They could wade into the water and lots of little fish nibbled their toes. They loved it. We were greeted every morning by a pair of loons. It was so quiet and peaceful. I would stay here again in a minute.

a dream house
The Lakehouse is about as nice a retreat as you can find - with a beautiful lawn down to a large beach and lake - a comfortable and large interior space for comfortable family living - all within easy distance of shops, parks, and fruit orchards where you can pick your own blueberries, peaches, and apples.

Great Place to Relax and Enjoy NH
My wife, son and I stayed for four days and enjoyed it immensely. John was extremely nice and welcoming and played the bagpipes which thrilled our three year old to no end. We fished everyday and made an excursion into Dover for the Children's Science Museum which I recommend for anyone with young kids. The house was clean, well maintained and inviting. We certainly hope to be back again.

I am in love with New Hampshire! It is in my blood and where I grew up. I have traveled all over the world and there is nothing like the true beauty and peace that you can find just sitting by the lake. I love to sit by the lake and relax with friends and family. Reading, relaxing and going fishing on the lake! I love to spend my down time in New Hampshire. We bought this house because I grew up on this lake! The house has been in and out of our family for the past 70 years. Most homes on the lake never go up for sale, they are passed down from generation to generation. We have made the house very comfortable as well as historic. It has been a journey remodeling the house an still keeping the historic enchantment. I have photos around the house of famous people I have met and worked with. I have tried to make the house very comfortable with luxurious soft linen. I want guest to love not only the peace and quiet but get a wonderful sleep in one of beautiful bedrooms. We love the many families that have returned year. You too can enjoy the New England Charm and find a secret place of tranquility. We have large yard with a wonderful horse shoe pit. We have many laughs over how to play a really good game. We often see ducks geese and sometimes deer in the yard.

Why they chose this property

I grew up on this lake! The family's on the lake return year after year! We bought the house for many reasons. The house is part of american history and had been in our family many years. There are 11 lake s in Northwood. My family used to own a beautiful Inn on the other side of the lake in the late 50's. .
I love this part of New England! It is very peaceful and my father bagpipes for guest at sunset!

What makes this property unique

Location Location Location. You are only 1.5 from Boston, 6 hours from New York City. You truly feel like you are in the country! There is horseback riding only 5 miles away! The house is located in the World Famous 'Antique Alley' a true treasure hunt awaits you at every corner!
The house is beautifully decorated and very comfortable kids will love the safari room . This is no camp! It is a beautiful historic house.
