40th birthday celebration

Such a nice space to celebrate a special occasion with friends who I cherish so much. This house provided such a fun safe place with plenty of room for myself and friends to enjoy my 40th.

Perfect for our family get together!

This was exactly what we needed for our yearly family get-together. It's a large home with plenty of room, plenty of bathrooms, and a geat kitchen, we cooked enchiladas for 20! The outside area was family friendly with lots of room and close to McPhee Reservoir. Alek was a great host, very responsive. Hopefully, we can come back next year!

Fun place to stay!

We loved our stay at this cabin! It met all our needs for rooms and beds, and we especially loved that we could take our dogs. We took my parents-in-law, who stayed in the main level room with adjoining bathroom. My family and I stayed upstairs, with my youngest on the pull-out bed in the family room. There was enough seating in the kitchen, and everything was well stocked. Great location, only 20 minutes away from the entrance of Mesa Verde National Park. Beautiful view of the mountains and surrounding area in a great location to walk dogs, etc. There was a slight problem with ants and crickets. It looked like the cabin had not been cleaned in some time, with some cobwebs and insects. However, the sheets and bedding, and bathrooms, and kitchen were clean. Thanks again for a great stay!

Great spot

Cozy cabin in a quiet area, convenient to Cortez and Dolores. The host was very responsive when we could not get the oven to turn on. We could not find a 4th bedroom with a double bed that was listed, but we still had enough space. There is an EV charger in the listing but I’m not sure it actually functions. We did not have an EV so did not affect our stay.

Great house at a great location!!

The house was absolutely perfect. Clean and comfortable. It was snowy so we weren’t able to enjoy the land as much as we would have liked. The kids didn’t want to come home!! Alek was a wonderful host.

Great place to relax and spend time with friends

Bandit's Ranch was the perfect spot for relaxing and hanging out with friends. Lots of space inside and outside for everyone to spread out, great kitchen, comfy living room, and fun game room! We saw mule deer in the backyard and lots of birds. The owner was super responsive, friendly and accommodating.

Our Mountain Escape

We are repeat visitors to Bandit Ranch. We always enjoy visiting and spending our much needed family time at this spot. We come as family to escape into the mountains and to use Bandit Ranch as basecamp for our visits to Moab, Bears Ears, Durango, and the Navajo Nation. It is cozy, especially with the fireplace and back porch that allows us an amazing view. My kids enjoy all the space and places to ride their bikes. They also enjoy the large indoor areas for playing boardgames, playing pool, and hide and seek. My kids are already asking when they can return to Bandit Ranch. We are a large family, so we love the space and amenities. We recommend 10/10!

Great Thanksgiving getaway

Great cabin. The host was very accommodating and usually responded to our communication within a couple hours. We had teens so the high speed internet, big screen tv, pool table, ping pong table, and darts were a hit. (There were no terrestrial channels or cable TV available.) The kitchen was well appointed we were able to cook three meals. The kitchen table was only big enough for 6. However, there are two tables so you can use the extra table if you need more. Great big windows to take in the scenery. The morning sun is pretty intense. So, some window shades might be good to have installed in the future. County access road is very well-maintained. The backyard isn’t entirely closed off. So a medium to small dog could easily get out. So you can’t just leave them in the back yard. Within 30 minutes from Phil’s world, which is a great mountain bike trail system in Cortez. We had a great time and will definitely be back.

Not someplace I will return to

This property should never be allowed on VRBO. When we walked into this house we could not believe what a mess it was.The garage can was full, spider webs were on all the light fixtures & windows, the counters and tables were covered with dust & grime as well as dirty windows. We found tuffs of animal hair in the TV room. We spent a couple hours cleaning and dusting before we could even move our gear into this place. One of the bath tubs had hair in it…. One of our guests got shocked when he plugged a phone charger in a socket it their bedroom that night, it had two prongs sticking out of the lower outlet that he was using. The home owner said why did he use it? Well because the light in that room only 1 bulb out of three work and it was terribly dark! And he didn’t see it. Our bedroom had a chemical odor which might have been from a new foam mattress but it was terrible to try and sleep. The final straw was the two coffee pots both had old moldy coffee grounds in them…. We couldn’t spend another night in this place and moved to an another place the next day. The owner Did offer a cleaning refund but not any refund on the 4 nights that we paid for but didn’t stay due to the condition of this property. We would not have even stayed the first night but had nowhere else to go.The property owner told us that we were not a good fit for his property which was correct, no VRBO renter would consider a filthy home a good fit. I cannot imagine how this house was/is allowed on VRBO.

About the host

Host profile image
Howdy! My name is Alek. I grew up in the four corners and enjoy the outdoors aspect of home the most. My fiancé Melinda and I started up this vacation rental not only to help pay for itself but so that others can enjoy this amazing area! A vacation rental allows us to update and fix things between guests and so we can occasionally enjoy it ourselves. I have traveled extensively and lived in places like New Zealand and Guatemala but every time I come home there is a feeling how unique and diverse this place is! Currently we live in New Mexico where the job opportunities are better for both of us. I am a project engineer for a construction company and Melinda manages a physical therapy department for a hospital. We hope you enjoy your time here at Bandit's Ranch!

Why they chose this property

This property gives you the rural feel with the nearby amenities of civilization. The skyline gas station is convenient for a quick 6-pack and the nearby canyons of the ancients visitor center & museum is a great first stop to get your bearings of the area. The open floorplan is a major benefit of this home. You can be cooking dinner and still interact with everyone in the main area including the game room loft upstairs. The home is at 7000 ft at the top end of Montezuma Valley. The views of the back porch are second to none! 6 acres gives you ample space to walk around the property and large parking area is enough space for a trailer or multiple vehicles.

The name "Bandit's Rach" comes from the cattle/herding dog I adopted from the Navajo Nation the same summer I purchased the home!

What makes this property unique

I purchased this home as a foreclosure in 2013 and have been working on it in some capacity ever since.

Recently I took a year off working to upgrade this home putting nearly $150,0000 back into the property. Among the new upgrades are...
-New roof with added insulation helps keep the home warmer during the winter and cooler during the summer.
-New windows
-Game room and new wood floor upstairs
- A library and reading room.
-New appliances.
-Driveway was dug up and completely re-done.
-Solar system installed on the roof
-EV car charger installed in the garage.

The home was set up to accommodate large groups with a desire to enjoy the great outdoors . There are many areas to hang out and enjoy the views of the country. The back porch has a view of the entire Montezuma Valley and in front you can see the mountains in Utah.

We hope you enjoy our home and are happy to give any suggestions regarding the surrounding area!
